Moncada to get MRI
QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 05:43 PM) I saw this thread on the homepage and just about s*** a brick. A reoccurrence is expected from my ( highly naive mostly uninformed opinion ). Thank god that we're almost to the offseason, I trust ( and pray ) that he'll get himself healthy. Excuse me while I back away from the ledge and feverishly search for ptatc's insight somewhere herein. Yep. I said when they held him out the last time that he would need the offseason before he was going to heal. He will need to modify an offseason workout to take the stress off the lower leg and work with different footwear.

2017-2018 NFL Thread
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 04:56 PM) No, they actually didn’t go to the run until midway through the second quarter. After 3 quarters they were 19 run 19 pass and then aired it out in the 4th quarter. And in the second game they abandoned the run game immediately and went to the air which led to the interceptions. In both of those games they tried to throw before they tried to run, by design. Only when they figured out that Glennon can’t throw that they went heavy run game. This is who Loggains is. Last year he did the same s*** with Barkley, he likes to have a heavy passing game It goes into the bin with the b2b 50 point losses in the Trestman era. The bin is labeled “Do not speak of these games” (face starts an involuntary tic) Do not mention he who must not be named!!

2017-2018 NFL Thread
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 04:17 PM) The first game they were extremely run heavy in the first 3 quarters until they got into catch up mode. They were blown out quickly in game 2 so the play calling won't tell you much. Very true. i've blocked that one from my memory.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 04:08 PM) The playcalling for the first two games was 70 percent passes, so not sure which playcalling is right Well considering the only game they won was the 3rd one, I'm going with that one. Even with the game being the weirdest game I've ever been to and I've worked probably 200 high school and small college games.

Jose Abreu accomplishment thread
QUOTE (Quin @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 02:03 PM) Ichiro, Gurriel, Cespedes, Iguchi, Fukudome, etc. I'd say a lot of Japanese and Cuban players do. And none of them did what Jose did. Not sure about the others but wasn't Ichiro about the same age as abreu for their MLB "rookie" year?

2017-2018 NFL Thread
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 03:18 PM) Because the Qb will be able to get them the ball, whereas this Qb is afraid to throw to anyone. You are right, the TEs are decent, and Glennon didn’t throw it to them either. Just dump offs to the RB There is zero reason for Glennon to be in there if he cannot throw the ball 10 yards This is the point I disagree with. I think it's more the coaches calling the plays and not calling plays for the WRs. Even when they do, Glennon has learned and Trubiskey will too that it is futile to throw to them and the RBs and TEs are the only viable targets. I really don't care if they replace Glennon, if they think Trubiskey is ready, in fact i still think the change happens after the game this week. However, I also don't expect to see much difference in the play calling.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 01:40 PM) Also doesn’t mean you start the lesser Qb. You are arguing that the WRs might not catch a ball, when the QB only threw at actual WRs 4 times yesterday with one completion. It might’ve been nice to see a guy try and throw farther than 5 yards My point is why do you think this will change with a different QB? The offensive coordinator knows the WR suck and his RBs and TEs are atleast decent. Who would you call plays for regardless of QB? It's fine to change QBs but the choice of QB won't change the game plan.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 10:56 AM) Thursday night games suck. Both the Bears and GB played OT in really hot conditions. Thursday has sloppy written all over it. Oh yeah. Which plays into the Bears less talented hands.

2017-2018 NFL Thread
QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 07:31 AM) That's the point. Any QB can run an offense of dumpoffs. At least with Trubisky we'll get less sacks and some nice rollouts. There have also been plenty of highlights of Glennon missing wide open receivers. That's fine but I was referring to the point that bringing in Trubiskey will significantly change the offense. This group of WRs will not help him and there is still the issue if he will be able to find the open WR as well.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 07:30 AM) All-22 Game film shows that they are getting open and Glennon isn’t seeing them. A lot He locks on to his pre snap read and doesn’t go through his progressions Doesn't mean this group will catch the passes.

Can Rodon become a quality mlb starter?
QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 02:09 AM) This whole Rodon thing has EASILY been the absolute definitively WORST part of 2017. Unless you somehow believed Charlie Tilson was the second coming of Ken Griffey Jr. No doubt. This is starting to look like a Mark Prior issue. Lots of problems, no answers and insisting his mechanics are good. although, I had issues with Priors taining and mechanics. The only issue I have with Rodon is still his lack of follow through.

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 24, 2017 -> 03:42 PM) Considering how limited he runs our offense, hard to imagine how this can be justified beyond this week...however, couldn't pick worse timing then before a Thursday night game. So glennon...you better ball out on your last game as a starter. We know you won't. Do you really think the offense will be any different with Trubiskey with the current set of WRs? I wouldn't throw to any of them either.

Can Rodon become a quality mlb starter?
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 24, 2017 -> 11:48 AM) I do not trust the Sox on Rodon, something is not right and they know it. It's not a trust issue. Of course they know something's wrong, they put him on the DL. The issue is that they can't figure it out. Rodon pretty much said this.

Reverse Standings Thread
QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 03:18 PM) I don't disagree with you on loving progress of our players who are our future. The point of this thread was in fact to track our pick. Each day standings are posted and scenarios given of how we can beat out Detroit, Philly, and SF for the number one pick. This thread is also full of posts of several ways posters wanted to lose so our guys played well and still lost. It's okay to want the number one pick and feel a little bad if we get 5. Doesn't make anyone less of a man or a fan. I agree. I was just responding to the comment that the only point of the season was to follow the games for the pick. I agree it's one of the reasons just not the only one.

Reverse Standings Thread
QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 01:16 PM) Let me clarify, I was speaking in terms of the fans. For the fans to go through this miserable season it was about a top three pick. You all know that I am right no matter how much you deny it. In fact, the whole point of this thread is to track that pick, and going through the pages the evidence is clear that everyone wants a top 2 pick. People even wanted to lose to the Cubs to get a better pick, which is something I'd never cheer for, F them. I wasn't on board for the rebuild at first but everyone wanted a top 2 pick for sure out of this draft. Everyone in fact wanted Beer with number 1 I believe. The organization wants development but we didn't, that's the letdown I'm talking about. Because we had to suffer through this season, and to get the 5th pick is a letdown. As far as the guy who says we don't see eye to eye, I could give a crap to to be honest. I would disagree. That was part of the point of the season. The other part and the part I enjoyed more was watching the young players such as Moncada, Lopez, Giolito and Delmonico develop and play well.

If you were Rick Hahn...
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 07:08 AM) Wow, talk about sugarcoating. Geesh! This post takes the cake. Well, you can spin it any way you like, but the fact remains: Blackmail = Blemish The owners taking actions that diverted even one penny of taxpayer money away from needs immensely greater than guaranteeing owner profits is an absolute black eye on the franchise’s history. The politicians may have allowed it, but they didn’t ask for it. As for “get what you can get when you can get it”, sure, why not. Next time you are at the grocery store and the cashier turns his head, grab as many items as you can hold and run out of the store without paying for them. That would be the same “great move” by you as the one you credit the owners with related to the stadium extortion. You can look at it that way if you want. It's the exact opposite of sugar coating it. You're being negative to be negative with a very biased view. Which is totally your right. You're taking a great deal by the owner for the White sox and turning it into a negative. He used to leverage he had to get the best deal for the team. It was a great business deal. there is absolutely nothing illegal or wrong about it. Not sure if you understand what is illegal and what is legal but the grocery store example is illegal. Threatening to move the team is not illegal, if fact it's a right they have as owners, if it's approved by the MLB

Maybe my favorite play of the year
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Sep 22, 2017 -> 11:00 PM) Yoan is coming along and Lopez pitched around some bad errors and gave them some innings. Absolutely. To me, this is one of his most impressive performances. It won't show up in the numbers but being able to continue pitching effectively after giving up the 6 runs without his best or even good stuff. while wins in general don't mean much for a pitcher, this was a win for him that did matter.

White Sox hire two new scouts
QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 22, 2017 -> 12:08 PM) The fact that this needed to be done is crazy to me. For the cost of 1 s***ty reliever you could pay for an entire scouting team. I guess it depends on the number they had relative to the other teams. Are these just more than the norm but adding to the quality or do they bring the Sox to what other teams do now.

2017-2018 NFL Thread
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 22, 2017 -> 10:46 AM) 538 has a piece up looking at, statistically, when teams should go for 2 rather than kicking an extra point. https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/dick-v...nversion-chart/ You would think that teams would have stats guys up in the booth looking over this stuff in real team and relaying the information down to the coach(es), but given how often we see coaches completely mismanage games I'm wondering if there's still a lot more "gut feel" for everything. The numbers are just predictions based on overall past results of all teams. The coaches need to consider his teams offense vs. the other teams defense, injuries at the time as well as many other factors that aren't considered in looking at all of the averages of all of the teams. As long as we're on the topic of stats, I was looking at a few the other day and noticed not a single attempt a statistical measure like this used a Holm-Bonnferonni procedure after their calculations. This is a statistical method used to limit the inherent error when comparing multiple means such as this example uses. I recently had an article rejected and needed revisions for publication because I didn't do this. They said, rightfully so, that this type of error may invalidate the results (luckily for me it did not and the publication should go through).

White Sox hire two new scouts
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 22, 2017 -> 09:12 AM) The link to the article is dead tho. Dan HayesVerified account @CSNHayes 2h2 hours ago #WhiteSox named scouts from Astros, Indians to amateur cross checking positions. These moves make sense from the statements by hostetler that the Sox FO has increased the budget to expand the scouting and minor league aspect of the organization.
