  1. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 07:30 AM) All-22 Game film shows that they are getting open and Glennon isn’t seeing them. A lot He locks on to his pre snap read and doesn’t go through his progressions Doesn't mean this group will catch the passes.
  2. QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 02:09 AM) This whole Rodon thing has EASILY been the absolute definitively WORST part of 2017. Unless you somehow believed Charlie Tilson was the second coming of Ken Griffey Jr. No doubt. This is starting to look like a Mark Prior issue. Lots of problems, no answers and insisting his mechanics are good. although, I had issues with Priors taining and mechanics. The only issue I have with Rodon is still his lack of follow through.
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 24, 2017 -> 03:42 PM) Considering how limited he runs our offense, hard to imagine how this can be justified beyond this week...however, couldn't pick worse timing then before a Thursday night game. So glennon...you better ball out on your last game as a starter. We know you won't. Do you really think the offense will be any different with Trubiskey with the current set of WRs? I wouldn't throw to any of them either.
  4. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 24, 2017 -> 11:48 AM) I do not trust the Sox on Rodon, something is not right and they know it. It's not a trust issue. Of course they know something's wrong, they put him on the DL. The issue is that they can't figure it out. Rodon pretty much said this.
  5. QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 03:18 PM) I don't disagree with you on loving progress of our players who are our future. The point of this thread was in fact to track our pick. Each day standings are posted and scenarios given of how we can beat out Detroit, Philly, and SF for the number one pick. This thread is also full of posts of several ways posters wanted to lose so our guys played well and still lost. It's okay to want the number one pick and feel a little bad if we get 5. Doesn't make anyone less of a man or a fan. I agree. I was just responding to the comment that the only point of the season was to follow the games for the pick. I agree it's one of the reasons just not the only one.
  6. QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 01:16 PM) Let me clarify, I was speaking in terms of the fans. For the fans to go through this miserable season it was about a top three pick. You all know that I am right no matter how much you deny it. In fact, the whole point of this thread is to track that pick, and going through the pages the evidence is clear that everyone wants a top 2 pick. People even wanted to lose to the Cubs to get a better pick, which is something I'd never cheer for, F them. I wasn't on board for the rebuild at first but everyone wanted a top 2 pick for sure out of this draft. Everyone in fact wanted Beer with number 1 I believe. The organization wants development but we didn't, that's the letdown I'm talking about. Because we had to suffer through this season, and to get the 5th pick is a letdown. As far as the guy who says we don't see eye to eye, I could give a crap to to be honest. I would disagree. That was part of the point of the season. The other part and the part I enjoyed more was watching the young players such as Moncada, Lopez, Giolito and Delmonico develop and play well.
  7. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 07:08 AM) Wow, talk about sugarcoating. Geesh! This post takes the cake. Well, you can spin it any way you like, but the fact remains: Blackmail = Blemish The owners taking actions that diverted even one penny of taxpayer money away from needs immensely greater than guaranteeing owner profits is an absolute black eye on the franchise’s history. The politicians may have allowed it, but they didn’t ask for it. As for “get what you can get when you can get it”, sure, why not. Next time you are at the grocery store and the cashier turns his head, grab as many items as you can hold and run out of the store without paying for them. That would be the same “great move” by you as the one you credit the owners with related to the stadium extortion. You can look at it that way if you want. It's the exact opposite of sugar coating it. You're being negative to be negative with a very biased view. Which is totally your right. You're taking a great deal by the owner for the White sox and turning it into a negative. He used to leverage he had to get the best deal for the team. It was a great business deal. there is absolutely nothing illegal or wrong about it. Not sure if you understand what is illegal and what is legal but the grocery store example is illegal. Threatening to move the team is not illegal, if fact it's a right they have as owners, if it's approved by the MLB
  8. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Sep 22, 2017 -> 11:00 PM) Yoan is coming along and Lopez pitched around some bad errors and gave them some innings. Absolutely. To me, this is one of his most impressive performances. It won't show up in the numbers but being able to continue pitching effectively after giving up the 6 runs without his best or even good stuff. while wins in general don't mean much for a pitcher, this was a win for him that did matter.
  9. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 22, 2017 -> 12:38 PM) Actually just read a book (Keith Law's Smart Baseball) that said I saw that one too when the previous answer was given. that's just crazy.
  10. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 22, 2017 -> 12:08 PM) The fact that this needed to be done is crazy to me. For the cost of 1 s***ty reliever you could pay for an entire scouting team. I guess it depends on the number they had relative to the other teams. Are these just more than the norm but adding to the quality or do they bring the Sox to what other teams do now.
  11. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 22, 2017 -> 10:46 AM) 538 has a piece up looking at, statistically, when teams should go for 2 rather than kicking an extra point. https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/dick-v...nversion-chart/ You would think that teams would have stats guys up in the booth looking over this stuff in real team and relaying the information down to the coach(es), but given how often we see coaches completely mismanage games I'm wondering if there's still a lot more "gut feel" for everything. The numbers are just predictions based on overall past results of all teams. The coaches need to consider his teams offense vs. the other teams defense, injuries at the time as well as many other factors that aren't considered in looking at all of the averages of all of the teams. As long as we're on the topic of stats, I was looking at a few the other day and noticed not a single attempt a statistical measure like this used a Holm-Bonnferonni procedure after their calculations. This is a statistical method used to limit the inherent error when comparing multiple means such as this example uses. I recently had an article rejected and needed revisions for publication because I didn't do this. They said, rightfully so, that this type of error may invalidate the results (luckily for me it did not and the publication should go through).
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 22, 2017 -> 09:12 AM) The link to the article is dead tho. Dan Hayes‏Verified account @CSNHayes 2h2 hours ago #WhiteSox named scouts from Astros, Indians to amateur cross checking positions. These moves make sense from the statements by hostetler that the Sox FO has increased the budget to expand the scouting and minor league aspect of the organization.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 22, 2017 -> 09:45 AM) Dan Hayes‏Verified account @CSNHayes 10h10 hours ago It had been 1,836 days since Chris Volstad's last MLB win, also at the Houston Astros against tonight's starter Dallas Keuchel. Why didn't the advanced metrics people know this ahead of time. They should just have started Volstad./green
  14. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 09:08 PM) I would like to emphasize the fact that Volstad is in no way good. He was tonight.
  15. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 08:17 PM) ptatc How is arm reattachment typically handled with quarterbacks? Very carefully? i don't think it was quite as serious as arm reattachment. He had a labral repair. He should have been back in july. I'm not really sure what the issue is other than the rumors.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 04:09 PM) Daryl Van Schouwen‏Verified account @CST_soxvan 34m34 minutes ago Royals at White Sox Fri: Hammel (5.05) v Lopez (4.84) 7:10 Sat: Duffy (3.71) v Covey (8.18) 6:10 Sun: Gaviglio (4.35) v Giolito (2.58) 1:10 Sounds like a battle for Chicago Heights (if you know the south suburbs)
  17. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 02:56 PM) If we draft someone in 2018 that isn't ready till 2024 that would suck. Not unreasonable for a HS draft pick. That would make him 24 years old. That's a little long but not unreasonable.
  18. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 02:10 PM) Rob Deer? yep. He hit 32 HR with 64 RBI This article made me think of the just pre-PED era. There were guys like Deer, Joe Carter who fit this mold. Going back further guys like Dave Kingman. Players who sold out on being a good hitter for hitting HRs.
  19. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 02:07 PM) I had to look to verify, but knew at least one of the answers. That is a newer one. I thought there may be a newer one. This was a question from the 90's when I was working with the Brewers as he was playing for them.
  20. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 09:39 PM) Exactly. Close to half of Gallo's hits are homers. A good trivia question from back in the day. I'm not sure if it's still true as I haven't researched it. Who is the only player to drive himself in as many times as he drove others in while hitting 30 or more HRs? For example 30 HR and 60 RBI
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 09:50 AM) Considering they did what pretty much every single other in professional sports has done, I am not sure you could call that a blemish, unless you are holding all other professional team owners to decades long grudges over their new stadiums. Exactly. It's good business for the team. The decisions the politicians make for the taxpayers is a whole different issue.
  22. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 06:24 AM) I wonder if Lucks shoulder is destroyed Rumor has it that he was going to miss 4 games or so anyway so the Colts are just going to throw the season away and be very careful with him.
  23. QUOTE (oldsox @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 06:47 AM) Someone please tell me again the terms of the new stadium. I don't know the specifics, I'm sure someone does, however it's owned by the illinois sports facility authority (https://www.isfauthority.com/). the sox rent Comiskey from them at a low rate and rent is free if they don't hit a certain attendance. It's a favorable deal for the team.
  24. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 12:36 AM) #5, for sure, serves as top of the owner’s triumphs as owner. Hands down. #1-4 reflect favorably on the early years, 81-83. Comiskey Park never looked better than during the ‘83 All-Star game, and that was due to the investment put into the park you reference in #2. #6, not so much. The “extortion” relating to the blackmailing of the State of Illinois to build the current ballpark will forever be a blemish on the franchise’s history, even long after the current owner is gone. What’s missing is probably the tenures of Thomas, Buerhle, and Konerko, three of the greatest players in Sox history whose careers either began with the Sox via being drafted by the team (Frank & Mark), or being brought over through a trade (Paulie). They put their considerable stamp in the game in a Sox uniform, and did so during the Reinsdorf era, so he gets a check in the “good things” he’s brought to the franchise during his 37 years at the helm for that as well. Blemish. That was a great move by them. They have a stadium and didn't pay for it. Imagine the payroll for the players if the sox were paying for the stadium as well. that's like blaming the players for the money the owners give them. You get what you can get when you can get it.
  25. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 18, 2017 -> 09:59 AM) Yep. Same as every year for me. Start week 1 on fire, by week 2 half of those players go to IR and I pick the wrong replacements. Yep. i picked up engram because Olsen is out. Today they said Engram is in concussion protocol and may not play.
