QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 4, 2013 -> 04:13 PM) Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal #Yankees GM Cashman suffered broken rt fibula and dislocated rt ankle during parachute jump to raise awareness for Wounded Warrior Project. The "Ventura" injury. He should be able to generallly manage in about a week. If the owner can talk him into it and he isn't coaching high school sports.

QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 4, 2013 -> 04:13 PM) Right hamate bone removed. Out 6 weeks. Easy to recover from. Just need to let the bone heal so it doesn't injure the ulnar nerve as it goes through the tunnel of guyon of the the hook of the hamate (the part they remove) makes up one of the sides. About 1/3 of all MLB hitters have this done at one time or another.

QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 4, 2013 -> 10:31 AM) At least it isn't a shoulder problem. http://blogs.suntimes.com/whitesox/ This could be almost as bad as far as how long it takes to return to throwing. The "groin" strains can last a while for pitchers as they really need to abduct the hip when they step toward the plate during the pitch. The muscle is really thick (insert joke here) which means it can bleed alot and take a while to heal.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Mar 4, 2013 -> 03:36 PM) Daryl Van Schouwen @CST_soxvan "I was very happy with my control," said Danks, who touched 89 mph. That is perfect for velocity on the first time out and not looking like he was trying to over throw the FB.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 4, 2013 -> 02:52 PM) Exactly. If Cutler had the same month and the same result happened for the Bears, and he was given the same contract, most Bears fans would call it a fair deal. Could happen this year.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Mar 3, 2013 -> 12:32 PM) I think that's stretching it the wrong way. What if he cuts up A and AA pitching this year? Many of the really great ones start young. You could be right but I don't think so. I think it's 2015 at the earliest as a regular. I could see him as a Sept call up next year but not starting the season.

QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Mar 3, 2013 -> 02:37 AM) Im just saying that he has to rehab his knee one way or the other, not to mention the fact that he could have had a top notch team of trainers helping him along the way. Most people, as was my experience, have to take their own initiative when rehabbing and only get to go to physical therapy a few times a week. He could get therapy on it every day if he wanted and come back strong and healthy, his knee is already trashed so take advantage of your situation, build it back up and come back with some toughness about the situation. JMO Most players even at the MLB level do not stay with the team for their rehab. They go home and go to a clinic like everyone else. Now it's still paid for by the team (I'm sure it's still the case here) and they must go check in occasionally with the team. Very few pro athletes in any sports stay with the team after a season ending injury. Most coaches do not want them around even if the athlete wanted to stay.

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Mar 3, 2013 -> 11:50 AM) I think Mitchell still can be a solid every day player, but he still has A LOT of work to do in order to reach MLB status. One guy who will make an impact as early as next year will be Courtney Hawkins. From everything I am reading and seeing from this kid, he is legit. I think Hawkins will likely take over in LF next year with Viciedo going to 1B. (Assuming PK retires). If Mitchell has a tremendous 2013 down in AAA, he may be able to take over in CF in 2014. The infusion of youth is just about to arrive in the outfield. However, we are one more year away...... I do not think Hawkins will be a regular next year. He is still too raw from the accounts I've heard. Possibly 2015 but that's even stretching it.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 1, 2013 -> 04:22 PM) With an Ipod, I haven't been able to convince myself to pay for radio. It's not so much radio as it is the books, old time shows and comedy shows. When you are in the car 3-4 hours a day you need variety.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 1, 2013 -> 02:47 PM) Chicago sports radio is just torture. B&B is on the top of that list. Really there is nothing out there worth listening too. More than anything I really turn on the music stations or the news station. There is just nothing redeeming about sportstalk in this town. It is either all cheerleading, inside jokes, or lowest common denominator. Sirius/XM radio is the only way to go.

QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Feb 28, 2013 -> 10:57 PM) Gotta have more mental toughness than that. Injuries are just part of the deal when you play sports. I've blown out both knees in the past 5 years so I know what it's like and I'll tell you that feeling sorry for yourself and quitting doesn't help you heal any faster. Depends on what else there is for you. He may have known that his chances to make the MLB was marginal to begin with and has a family business or something. This happens to many MiLB players. They know they really have no chance for MLB but want to continue to play ball for a living for a little while. It is a great experience. He may have just decided that with essentially taking 2 years off he is too far behind and he is just moving on.

Is #30 a Dead song? I'm pretty sure it is but I'm looking through the albums and can't figure it out. -
QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Feb 27, 2013 -> 06:43 PM) According to Pompei and a lot of other guys inside the NFL a lot didn't get it. Yes, most don't. Like I said, it isn't a league wide thing as they really don't care about it. It was just some of the medical staff that tried. Most of the players think that it is better for them the day after a game to decrease the soreness than a pain killer or pain reliever. They just don't realize how hard it is on their healing process and their cardiovascular system.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 27, 2013 -> 04:16 PM) I'd be willing to bet more than a few of Webb's teammates use marijuana on a recreational basis. This would concern me if I was going to keep him on the roster. I know most people don't think marijuana is a big deal but it has a major impact on athletes especially football players. The TCH in it drastically slows down the inflammation and healing process. This is why people can get a medical prescription for it for chronic inflammatory diseases. In football with the beating they take smoking it will slow down their recovery and extend injury times. Many NFL players would use it because it made their soreness the next day less but in reality it extended the problem. It's a short term feel good for long term bad effects. We use to try to educate the players on it and some got it and others didn't. Sometimes there is a reason seemingly minor injuries take extra time to heal.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 26, 2013 -> 08:04 AM) At least, we think there's a relationship between that injury and the others. That and fatigue from the layoffs.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 26, 2013 -> 07:41 AM) I was expecting February. By March, he's behind the pace of most Major League athletes who have the same surgery. Physically you can go back to playing around 9 months sometimes as late as 11. However, athletes will tell you that while they can play the knee doesn't feel "normal" until around 18 months post-op. If he is truly waiting until it feels "normal" as opposed to playing when he is physically cleared, it could be next year.

QUOTE (jphat007 @ Feb 23, 2013 -> 02:25 PM) Depends on if Virginia makes the tournament. haha. I think I'm gonna be optimistic this year. They should make the tournament. With Duke having a down year and Loyola winning their first championship in a long time, Virginia should be sitting pretty good but I think Hopkins has the inside track on the Lacrosse title. Oh wait.....you probably meant some other sport. -
Sox trade RP Jeff Soptic for 3B Conor Gillaspie

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 22, 2013 -> 12:30 PM) It also has a lot to do with what they think of Brent Morel if you ask me. I still think that by the end of the year, Morel will be the starting 3B with Gillaspie the left handed back up and JK as the super utility guy. Provided Morel's back is healthy of course. -
QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Feb 21, 2013 -> 05:32 PM) wtf is up with his elbow. officially out. The Bulls guard on Monday detailed the right elbow infection that caused him to miss the last seven games. "I punctured my bursa sac,'' Hinrich said. "It was an impossible stitch. The feedback that everybody was giving our trainers and from the docs was that there was a good chance it was going to get infected. And it finally did. "It got to the point where it was going to get pretty bad, and I started feeling sick. I was really hurting and had to go get it taken care of.'' Hinrich underwent an operation during which the bursa sac was removed, cleaned and sewed back up. Before the procedure, he couldn't bend his arm because of the swelling. Hinrich said doctors told him the elbow would not become re-infected. He spent two-plus days in the hospital absorbing a constant flow of antibiotics. "I just want to get it taken care of,'' he said. Hinrich doesn't expect his minutes to be restricted when he returns to the lineup Tuesday night in New Orleans. Those are extremely painful injuries. It can really restrict your range of motion. I've seen the swell up as big as a baseball hanging off your elbow. His isn't that bad but I can see where it would restrict him from bending his elbow to the point that he cannot play.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 20, 2013 -> 11:25 AM) I don't think we're really disagreeing there, ultimately. That the top 1% captured all of the income growth and then some is indicative of the weakness and type of 'recovery' we've experienced over the past several years and while the stock market's doing just fine, most people aren't. This is why people with money to invest took advantage of the time when the stocks were low and are now rising.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 19, 2013 -> 12:24 PM) I do honestly hate that the Astros are in the AL now, 8 years after they were in the World Series for the NL. Any of the Padres, Rockies, and Brewers would have made more sense. Taking the Brewers from the AL to NL back to AL would look really bad for the league.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 20, 2013 -> 06:28 AM) huh? Very few people get an increase of 121% through salary alone. It takes investment growth to do that. Only people with money can invest it. You need money to make money.
