QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 26, 2012 -> 05:01 PM) Thanks for coming into the thread to supply info. No prblem. I really couldn't help much as they aren't releasing excatly what the injury is and it's quiet even on the trainer's gravevine.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 26, 2012 -> 02:15 PM) That Clown directed the White Sox to the only championship in your lifetime. He is no Bozo. He is the arguably greatest manager in White Sox history cause he led the team to a title. Not only that but he had one of the best records as well. Ozzie was a very good manager for the White Sox. He deserves the credit. That being said, I also think he wore out his welcome and it was time for him to go. It isn't black and white scenario. Thank him for the championship and the fun times but also don't let the door hit to in the arse on the way out.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 26, 2012 -> 02:11 PM) Meh. I don't have a problem with Rose wanting to keep mental note of teams/players he felt "disrespected" him or his team if that helps to fire him up or whatever. Not sure what the Pacers really did. They got a big road win against a team with the best record in basketball. I would imagine one would be a little more hype after that than by beating anyone of the Wizards, Bobcats, Cavs, Pistons, Raptors or any other putrid eastern conference team. But there's a team come Sunday that Rose needs to worry about. A team that humbled him last year. The one, and only, team standing in the way of a finals appearance this year. Save your fury for them. I agree. That's is the attitude that the great competitors have. Whatever gets you focused and gets you ready to give it all to win.

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Jan 26, 2012 -> 11:53 AM) I do too for the most part, but you shouldn't be spouting off about it all the time unless you have proven time and again that it means something. I wish Jake would just keep his mouth shut about it until he actually does something. That's a different discussion. I agree it doesn't need to talk about it. But many posters blast him for his attitude not talking about it. But that's part of the package with many of the real intense competitors. They try to get others around them to be more intense if they don't see it. He has been a winner and has won a Cy Young. Just because he hasn't done it with the Sox doesn't mean he can't try to instill that attitude in some of the younger players. There is an element in sports where the aging veteran can instill a work ethic or attitude in the young players. I would rather have him act like this than take the Rios approach of keeping to himself and be too mellow. It;'s a personal preference but I like that attitude in an athlete.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 26, 2012 -> 11:26 AM) Rose has said things and backed them up. Peavy, not so much in a White Sox uniform. Rose has missed games. Peavy's problem has been injuries. So it's fine to be intense and try really hard, only if your good. If you don't perform we don't want the players to be intense. The ones who don't perform well we want to be laid back with no insensity? This doesn't make sense to me. I want ALL my players to be intense and have this attitude, not just the ones who play well.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 26, 2012 -> 10:00 AM) No way. That intensity is what makes Rose special. Yet when Peavy says these real intense things he gets blasted for them. not by you but by a lot of posters.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 26, 2012 -> 08:00 AM) Wow. Deng already? Hopefully this isn't something he can do more damage to. As I said earlier, if the Bulls are taking this approach it must be one of the non-crucial ligaments. They will treat it like a sprained ankle and his playing will be based on how it feels.

QUOTE (kev211 @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 10:10 PM) http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=aw-w...ry_bulls_012512 "Deng said Tuesday in Chicago that he’s determined to play his part in chasing a championship with the Bulls. Also, the chance to represent Great Britain at the Summer Olympics in London is an important opportunity for him." That part is scary if you need surgery, but if the injury cant get worse then have it after the season and screw the olympics. Ligament injuries are all about stability of the two bones. Since it's non-dominant wrist he really only needs to worry about ball handling. After playing in a game he will know how the wrist feels. If it's not one of the ligaments that is crucial to wrist stability he'll may be able to manage it like a sprained ankle.
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 09:37 PM) I don't believe his injury is any worse than Kobe's (and that's on his shooting hand). It's all about pain tolerance. In 2004-05, he had surgery bc the Bulls were going nowhere. But yeah, ptatc would be of great help here. The Bulls aren't saying exactly what the injury is so it's hard to predict exactly what is going on in Deng's wrist. There are only two structures in the wrist that are absolutely crucial to stability in the wrist. One is the scapho-lunate ligament. If this is the one he tore it will be really diffcult to flexion or extension in his wrist without pain. It will be a real struggle for him and surgery is usally indicated sooner rather than later. The other structure is the triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC). It is a stucture similar to the menicus in the knee. It spreads out the forces in the wrist and holds the radius and ulna together at the proximal part of the wrist. Again, surgery is usually indicated sooner rather than later to maintain stability for the wrist. Any other ligament really isn't crucial to the wrist stabilty. They are usually treated like a sprained ankle, rest and bracing until you can do the activity unless it feels to unstable to him. My guess is that he will try to play within the week and test it in game conditions and go from there but if it gets wrorse an extended period of time could be needed to let the pain and swelling go down.

2012 Cuban signees thread Cespedes/Soler/Concepcion

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 09:46 PM) Well, you can count on him having injuries, perhaps not that exact one. Prior to that one he wasn't really that much more of an injury risk than any other pitcher. -

QUOTE (Real @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 03:39 PM) unfortunately for KW, he is really in a lose/lose situation when it comes to all future FA signings with the gaffes of Peavy and Rios (I'm not counting Dunn as a gaffe) If you don't count Dunn, why would you count Peavy? Could KW predict Peavy would have an injury that noone else in baseball has ever come back from? -
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 24, 2012 -> 05:34 PM) Yes, I think as for as RH hitters go you've got the clear #1 in Pujols, followed closely by Miggy and then I'd say Braun. Miguel has never had this type of protection behind him before. He could have his best year yet. I think I would agree especially in light of the PEDs. I don't think Cabrera is on anything except Tequila and cheeseburgers.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 24, 2012 -> 05:28 PM) And I agree completely. I said the Tigers had the division on lock. Not the AL. I still can't believe how little love the Rays STILL get. When you've got Price, Hellickson, Moore and Shields, yes, you've got a squad. As it currently stands they are the odds on favorite.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 24, 2012 -> 05:26 PM) OK, and when it happens, I'll say you guys were right. We've been hearing about Verlander and impending injuries for years. We've been hearing about how fat Prince Fielder is for years. Now it's Miggy. And all these guys do is perform. That's not true. It wasn't that long ago that I was Mr. Optimistic when it was warranted. You don't see me pimpin' the Cubs and Astros. Rays, Rangers, Phillies? You better believe I admire them. I don't think the Tigers are some premier organization. But the talent is undeniable. Is Fielder and Cabrera better than Fielder and Braun?
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 24, 2012 -> 05:15 PM) So the case against Detroit at the moment is too wait for their fat guys, even though they've always been fat, to turn into Mo Vaughn, or for Miggy to drink himself out of baseball. Nice. If that happens, then fine. As of right now, it's curtains. They'll be plenty of drama in the other two divisions. I think the case really is that pitching and defense wins championships. The tigers still aren't real strong in either one. Their offense will carry the division, and that isn't saying much, but I don't think they'll go much further.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 11:13 PM) No, that's COMPLETELY fair to say he has spent the last 5 years trying to lose his job by running an organization in to the ground out of some sort of irrational spite. Not unfair at all. speaking of irrational spite. If you really think KW has tried to make this team worse, despite being the most successful GM in the modern era for the Sox, you really are showing an irrational bias. -

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 19, 2012 -> 05:58 PM) Hold with one of your hands or your legs. Generally if I'm jumping to block a shot or catch a pass I'll hold the broom with my leg. Now THAT takes a great deal of coordination. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 19, 2012 -> 05:33 PM) No thanks. I've learned over time to pick and choose my message board battles. I'm not going to devote 20+ posts in breaking down why wrestling sucks and is not a true sport, and why basketball requires 20 times more skill. That's just a Baltaesque way of driving up your post count. It is not. I sure don't care about post counts. I just get irked when people are so sure about something for which they are completely uninformed. You are so sure wrestling isn't a sport yet you have no information to base this idea upon. By the way just to clarify the situation, I hope you realize I am not talking about the TV type, WWE wrestling. This is just my opinion but I consider it an informed, educated opinion. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 19, 2012 -> 05:18 PM) You need to stick to sports injuries and steroids. That is just awful. Expand your horizon beyond "popular" sports based only around money. There are many better ones out there. You obviously, have no experince with wrestling at a high level. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 19, 2012 -> 05:05 PM) Wrestling is a joke of a sport and how dare you say it's better than basketball? That's almost as bad as weekly bowlers talking about how not everybody can bowl a 200 game. I know I can. And I don't even bowl. I dare say it because it's true. The skill level in basketball does not match wrestling. The physical strength, power and agility combo as well as the strategy and quick thinking on the mental level it takes to wrestle at the collegiate and international level is far and above the corresponding level of basketball. I've worked both sports at those levels and rehabbed athletes at both. There really is no comparison in my opinion. If you really put wrestling with bowling you have no experience with the sport. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 19, 2012 -> 04:54 PM) Sure. Wrestling is on par with Lacrosse. Just because you sweat a little doesn't make it a sport. Lacrosse is a great sport. I knew nothing about it until this year. Any sport where you can legally beat the crap out of someone with a stick is a blast. Watching my 10 year old's team is a lot of fun and takes a heck of a lot more skill than basketball. By the way do you know who is considered the greastest Lacrosse player ever: Jim Brown. He has been quoted as saying that if there was pro Lacrosse when he came out of Syracuse, he would have played it not football. You my friend have picked the wrong for which to root. Wrestling and Lacrosse are two of the best.
