The one true Greatest Hits I always enjoyed was The Cars' And ... two live albums I can think of that haven't been mentioned. David Live by David Bowie and Uriah Heep Live.

QUOTE(kevin57 @ Jan 11, 2007 -> 02:30 PM) The salaries, especially for pitchers, in this year's free agent class have been jaw-dropping by anyone's estimation, and that's with a mediocre crop of players. Next year's group will be much more talented and will draw even more insane offers. The WS organization is on record that they ain't going to join in the orgy. Satana will not be with us. The Sox have complained about the cost of mediocrity. Santana does not apply to that statement. I can see the Sox signing Santana to a huge contract.

Sox like Dye, but at what cost?..... Goodbye Buerhle ?

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jan 14, 2007 -> 10:50 AM) White Sox aren't cheap...they are being fiscally responsible. That's a HUGE difference. Cheap would be going out and getting scrap heap players who just want to play. Fiscally responsible means realizing it's not worth hamstringing your team for years for one player. Or, buying the Ozzie package instad of the full season package. You still get to see games, and this way you still can afford groceries. Fiscal responsibility led to the 2005 championship. -
I love this thread.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Jan 13, 2007 -> 11:39 PM) When I was two, my father started taking me to White Sox games. He was a die-hard fan. In 1980, when I was 3, he was diagnosed with Leukemia. He continued taking me to games when he could, although it was difficult with his chemo. But he managed to get me out there a bunch of times until May of 1981, when he passed away. As I was only 4 when he died, I didn't, and still don't remember much about him. What I do remember about him is his love for the White Sox and those times we spent together behind those annoying gold metal bars in the box seats at Old Comiskey Park. The guy was always thrifty with his money ( he was a university professor), but he never allowed that to get in the way of good seats at the ballpark with me. So I vowed to take that part of him with me for the rest of my life. And I have. I am a die-hard White Sox fan. Thank you for that. I found that to be quite touching.

I don't remember ever NOT being a Sox fan. I always have been and always will be.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 11, 2007 -> 11:27 AM) Yup. Boone would come in and dominate. Seriously people, am I the only one here who's ever seen a player, especially a pitcher, and especially a relief pitcher with tricky stuff, come up, be a bit scared to throw strikes at first and get in trouble, but then learn the ropes better and suddenly become a much tougher opponent? He has sucked once, therefore he will always suck.

QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ Jan 11, 2007 -> 09:05 PM) It think Tim Raines may get in the hall maybe not on the first ballot. As for Robin Ventura, he was one of my favorites but doubt if it is HOF caliber. I agree with the execption of one word ... doubt ... Robin is not Hall material.

This will be Dye's last chance to strike for the big bucks. Keep that in mind. -

I look at it this way ... If McGwire makes the hall, he made BECAUSE he took 'roids. Sosa and Palmeiro, same thing. As much as I despise Bonds he earned a HOF bid before he took roids.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 10, 2007 -> 12:14 PM) there are two more in the upcoming years. Tim Raines in 2008 and Robin Ventura in 2010 Raines maybe. Robin NOT. Though he was one of my favorites. Hope he gets a little respect.

Goose should have made it. He was better than Sutter.

Best(non-World Series) and worst all time White Sox moment.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 10, 2007 -> 11:34 AM) Someone didn't pay attention to the thread title. Best: Has to be my first Sox game in 94; Frank went deep twice. Worst: Don't really have a good one, but probably 2003's team not making the playoffs after being in first place during mid-September. Guilty as charged. -

Best: Paulie's slam in game 2. That was such a magical moment. Worst: Losing that DH to the lowly Kansas City A's in '67. I was 9 years old and it broke my heart. -
Then again, he may be the best man for the job.
-
I seriously doubt Paulie reaches 500 dingers. Therefore, I seriously doubt he'll be a serious HOF candidate. He's a slow firstbaseman. The 500 mark is the only way he'll make it.

We've sure got some jaded mofo's on this site. Regarding Mark's performance, sure he had a s***ty 2nd half to '06. But, if you take a discerning look at his overall body of work throughout his career, Mark's been one of the most valueable pitchers in the majors. Except for a couple of bad streaks, he's been as dependable as anyone. Not great. Not the best. But very solid. I for one have never had a problem with Mark being a Cards fan. I understand what it's like to be a fan. I won't comment on those that do have a problem with this. Just wanted to put my position out there. Then you get into the money issue. Well, wake the f*** up folks, it's a business. And for the players, its a finite business. They happened to blessed with a unique ability that in today's society allows them to make millions of dollars. Because of this set of circumstances, they can financially set up their decendants for generations to come. How many of you fathers out there wouldn't love to have that kind of opportunity? Step back and look at the big picture. Whether it hurts your feelings if he leaves for more money is not part of the equation.

I had a shot at a 300 game once, but I choked in the 2nd frame.

QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Jan 3, 2007 -> 10:31 PM) So the past successes tell you that whoever they acquire now will be turned into something good. What do the failures tell you? What does Boone Logan tell you? It tells me that you can't always count on every KW bullpen acquisition to be good. I'm not exactly going out on a limb here. The past successes tell me that they have a history of being able to do this kind of thing and are confident of their ability to continue doing so.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jan 2, 2007 -> 12:13 AM) It depends if they want to use their ballot in such a manner. They held on against a team that while top 10, isn't close to being national championship caliber. I'd likely vote them 4th or 5th in the final poll depending on the results of other teams, but I fear that enough people might give them enough votes to leapfrog someone more deserving. I know it dosn't mean a whole lot, but that's how I feel. I think OSU, Florida, USC and LSU are teams that are better than them. I'm not arguing that point. But somebody giving them a tip of the cap, so to speak, is hardly douche baggery.
