  1. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Mar 12, 2012 -> 09:42 AM) I think he's trying to say that Ozzie is full of s***, saying whatever is convenient for himself. He threw Cooper under the bus for being "disloyal" and looking for an extension for himself. But at the same time, Cox was "loyal" by Ozzie's own definition, and Ozzie still didn't bring him along to Miami with him. What I'm trying to say is Ozzie's gone. So, it just doesn't matter now.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 11, 2012 -> 01:35 PM) When watching the Marlins, I'm reminded how that backstabbing asshole Don Cooper went over Ozzie's head and got himself a contract. I'm wondering what the good soldier, the loyal Jeff Cox is up to these days? How come Cowley doesn't have an article how Ozzie really took care of him and his loyalty? WTF does it matter?
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 9, 2012 -> 02:18 PM) DeAza better not keep repeating that throw through to the plate and putting runners at 2B when they should be at first still. Saw that enough with Rios last year. Sveum's the 52nd manager of Cubs. In the 1950's, they had "head coaches" and not managers, interesting. If I remember correctly, they called it a "college of coaches". It was a P. K. Wrigley 'idea'. I remember getting baseball cards that ID'd the Cubs ... um ... leader as a "Head Coach". That would change after a few weeks and someone else would take over. This was in the early sixties.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 9, 2012 -> 08:07 AM) http://www.suntimes.com/sports/11158635-45...of-passage.html Great read.
  5. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 09:07 AM) Thats a weird article, I dont really consider what the Bulls are doing when I am looking at what the Sox are doing. They are totally seperate entities in my mind even though both are owned by Reinsdorf and in Chicago. If it was a foreign soccer team he owned, I wouldnt think about it at all. If you want to get mad at Henry for the Red Sox offseason, have at it. But it really has nothing to do with a racist soccer player or Liverpool getting a new stadium What if JR owned, intead of the Bulls, say the Miami Heat? Do you really think Sox fans would have been OK with the fact the Heat paid so heavily and then Sox had their 2011 season?
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 5, 2012 -> 01:47 PM) http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/03/...clap-clap-clap/ Giants fans? Really? How ironic.
  7. A veteran catcher that can handle the bat. I remember in '83 LaRussa moved Fisk to the 2 spot and it turned the season around for the Sox. I know AJ is no Pudge, but Pudge wasn't a speedster either. Let's give Robin a chance to put his stamp on the team and see what happens.
  8. QUOTE (The Critic @ Mar 4, 2012 -> 12:21 PM) 70s - Dick Allen 80s - Greg Luzinski 90s - Frank Thomas 00s - Jim Thome 10s - Paul Konerko Overall - Thomas edges out Allen I like this idea. 60's Gary Peters 70's Dick Allen 80's Carlton Fisk 90's Frank Thomas 00's Mark Buehrle Right Now ... Paul Konerko
  9. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Mar 2, 2012 -> 08:06 AM) Most hated player can't be just a guy who stinks, but one who appears to be a lazy azz and doesn't care. I haven't seen one name mentioned I dislike as much as Rios. The faster we can give this team an enema and dump him the faster the Sox can really start to get back to being a good team. Rios is a gem compared to Jaime Navarro.
  10. One of my favorites that I haven't seen mentioned .... No Neck
  11. Jack Brickhouse was one of the biggest homers to ever sit behind a mic and he's in the HOF. I never consider a broadcaster being a homer as a negative. As far as I'm concerned, if it's a local broadcast, it's to be expected.
  12. I don't know who that guy is, but he has to better than Adam Dunn was last year.
  13. There was also Steve Howe, and Steve Howe, followed by Steve Howe, then there was ... oh never mind. It gets redundant quickly.
  14. I remember it well. After the Seattle Pilots became the Brewers, it appeared the White Sox were destined for Seattle. Actor Danny Kaye was the face of the group trying to buy the Sox and move. Kaye and Gene Autry came out of an owners meeting arm in arm singing a padory of Autry's signature song. They were singing "Back in Seattle Again". I never cared for either one of them since. Thank goodness Barnum Bill swooped in at the last moment to save the Sox for Chicago.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 24, 2012 -> 05:37 PM) This is where I defend Ozzie and praise him and everybody says they are sick of me talking about Ozzie. A fact is a fact. Last year Ozzie was looking for greener (read more $) pastures and for himself. Period. Good luck to him, but I'm glad he's not in the Sox dugout now.
  16. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Feb 24, 2012 -> 03:00 PM) Yeah. Dunn had a bad year, but he was quiet and respectable about it. Peavy was hurt and was only a little mouthy...towards the end of the season. Rios and Ozzie had bad years and were both assholes. I'd say Ozzie was a little worse. You picked up on my point very well. In fact, the fact the Ozzie quit on his team (well before the last week of the season) may have had an impact on Rios. Such is 'leadership'.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 24, 2012 -> 02:28 PM) I love this part a lot after their renovations. It is a whole new park versus the POS that was there in 1991. This ^
  18. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Feb 24, 2012 -> 02:50 PM) You watch. Everything works against the White Sox. First it was the player's strike, now it will be the damn Mayans. I've always believed the world would end when the Cubs were one strike away from a World Series win with a 10 run lead.
  19. QUOTE (Cali @ Feb 24, 2012 -> 02:19 PM) I honestly wonder if I'll get another Sox park in my lifetime. I'm 28 now and the park will be turning 21 this season. How many years does it have left before it becomes old and outdated? In the years since '91 it seems like EVERY team has gotten new modern parks built. After Jerry dies and the lease runs up will the White Sox get a new stadium? 30 years from now? 40? Or does US cellular (or whatever it may be called in a few decades) be one of the oldest parks in baseball? I'm betting that by the time thwe Cell is replaceed, you'll have nostaglic feelings for it like I do Comiskey and you'll hate see it go.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 24, 2012 -> 12:52 PM) I mainly just agree with those who say the team will suck then I add a few shots on Dunn, Rios, Peavy and Kenny. I rarely bring it up, I just pile on. Ozzie didn't exactly have a stellar year in '11. Sort of Rios-esque in my opinion.
  21. That half a win will be determined by whether we win or lose a game called by rain after 4.5 innings.
  22. We got Bonilla from the Pirates and then traded back to the Pirates after one season. I always believed there was a behind the scenes deal made there that allowed us to pick up Bobby Bo in the first place.
  23. 1. Robin will do just fine. He was always an intelligent player and will be as a amanger as well, once he gets his feet on the ground. He's also the anti-Guillen, which is exactly what was needed. 2. I don't think I've ever enjoyed a Sox player as much as I have Mark over the years. He will be sorely missed. 3. Adam Dunn. Flip a coin on this guy. Could go either way. 4. I think the bullpen work itself out. 5. I totally forgot the question. ETA: Ok, I got it now. Dayan will need some time before we expect him to be capable of replacing ... Paulie! That's the long term expectations of most I believe. I don't epect the power that CQ showed from DV this year. I'm hoping for a bunch of fence rattling doubles though.
  24. I also have a nostalgic love for Comiskey Park. The memories of my first time in the old ballyard are strikingly similar to BigEd's. I actually, honestly believe I became a life long Sox fan the second I hit the top of the ramp, right field line lower deck. I was 5 years old and I remember that moment like it was yesterday. I know it makes no financial sense whatsoever, but I really wish it was still there and the team could play a series or two a year there. That said, the Cell is every bit a first class Major League ballpark and I enjoy watching games there. It'll just never quite tug at the heartstrings like Comiskey Park did. But really, how can you top your first game at a ML ballpark?
