  1. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ May 15, 2006 -> 11:18 AM) triple plays kick ass. It took the Twins right out of the inning.
  2. Way too little. Way too late. Send a brick to your congressman for use on the wall.

    Funny of the day

DUI - Tennessee Style From the county where drunk driving is considered a sport, come this supposedly true story. Recently, a routine police patrol parked outside a bar in Paris, Tennessee. After last call, the officer noticed a man leaving the bar so intoxicated that he could barely walk. The man stumbled around the parking lot for a few minutes, with the officer quietly observing. After what seemed like an eternity in which he tried his keys on five different vehicles, the man managed to find his car and fall into it. He sat there for a few minutes as a number of the other patrons left the bar and drove off. Finally, he started his car, switched the wipers on and off --- it was a fine, dry summer night --- flicked the blinkers on and off a couple of times, honked the horn and then switched on the lights. He moved the vehicle forward a few inches, reversed a little and then remained still for a few more minutes as more of the other patrons left the bar. At last, when his was the only vehicle left in the parking lot, he pulled out and drove slowly down the road. The police officer, having waited patiently all this time, now started up his patrol car, put on his flashing lights and promptly pulled the man over and administered a breathalyzer test. To his amazement, the breathalyzer indicated no evidense that the man had consumed any alcohol at all. Dumbfounded, the officer said, "I'll have to ask you to accompany me to the police station. This breathalyzer equipment must be broken." "I doubt it," said the truly proud hillbilly. "Tonight, I'm the designated decoy."
  4. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 15, 2006 -> 10:49 AM) You can make a case that all those injuries weren't to their best player. The Cardinals' best player is Pujols; Braves: A. Jones; Yankees: ARod, Jeter; and the Cubs: D. Lee. Same kind of goes for the Sox in '04 with Frank and Maggs. I can't think of a case where a team truly survived without their best player(s). Andrew Jones stepped up with a performance like he'd never done before when Chipper went down. At the time of Chipper's injury, some would say he was their best player.
  5. QUOTE(SnB @ May 15, 2006 -> 10:44 AM) no wonder the yankees want him. he thinks outside the box Yuck the Fankees!
  6. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ May 15, 2006 -> 08:47 AM) I was somewhat questioning it at first. I was looking for the 5-4-3 triple play. When he called the 3-4-6, I definitely had my doubts. I'm glad it all worked out though and I'm enjoying my crow. Nice Job Coop!! Coop's a damn genius. Glad you didn't make the call.
  7. QUOTE(VAfan @ May 15, 2006 -> 10:35 AM) Plus, it kept us in first place, ended a 3-game losing streak, and gave us a chance to split the series. If we go off on a new tear, you might look back at this game as pivotal. We hung in there and rallied, unlike the night before when a couple of blown calls by the umps caused us to unravel. As for Dye, it is hard to believe a guy with his talent is only on his 200th HR. It has to be the injury factor from past years. When he stays healthy and on the field, he is a great right fielder. Frankly, he ought to be considered for the All-Star game. Kenny sure knew what he was doing letting Maggs go and replacing him with Dye. The guy's a total bargain. Agreed. Maggs may produce more, and that is debatable. But, dollar for dollar, it's all Jermaine. Hands down.
  8. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 15, 2006 -> 10:33 AM) Yep, Ozzie deserves a lot of dap for sticking with his guys. And that's a big reason these players perform so well. Because if the consensus of SoxTalk was doing the managing last night.... Oh hell. Don't elaborate on that thought ....... PLEASE
  9. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 15, 2006 -> 10:31 AM) Anyone else also notice that Bobby was topping out at 99 on the gun? Couldn't help but notice. Everyone's been crying about his loss of velocity so much around here that when I got the chance to watch him, I had to check it out. 99 isn't 102, but it'll do.
  10. Oh brother. We'll never be dependant on foriegn food. If we need it we'll grow it. It's not like oil where there is a finite amount. The rhetoric is getting ridiculous.
  11. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 15, 2006 -> 08:39 AM) Nothing at all. Ahh YASNY, brilliant comments like that are why your one of the top dogs and moderators around here. Short and to the point, my friend.
  12. I have to admit, that was damn good strategy.
  13. How anyone could reasonably expect the privacy of having the calls placed from their phone not to be accessible by the government is beyond me. Did you people ever watch Law & Order? They are always checking phone records and not needing any warrants to do so.
  14. The solution is to secure the border and make people come into the country legally.
  15. After all this, I still say build the damn wall.
  16. Well, this thread went right into the crapper.
  17. QUOTE(rangercal @ May 14, 2006 -> 11:24 PM) meh.. to each his own. He's not bothering me. Plus, I think sox fans who grow up in or around chicago have a different perspective on the cub hate than sox fans from different parts of the country or world for that matter. Sox fans in chicago have to go to school, work with, live with and most importantly deal with cub fans every breathing day of our lives. So if he needs to lash out, what better place than a white sox message board? I have never been in his shoes, so he may have reasons that he compiled over his life to add to the core of his hate towards the Cubs and their fans. I know I have my reasons. meh ... I grew in Chicago, so I'm well aware of what it's like to deal with Cub fans. My comment to Cuck was meant as friendly advice.
  18. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 14, 2006 -> 03:06 PM) Mike Maroth's career ERA is 4.72. This year, it's 2.55. Nate Robertson's career ERA is 4.76. This year, it's 3.27. Color me skeptical. These two won't be pitching on cloud nine forever... Young pitchers mature. They'll (the Tigers) be around for a while.
  19. QUOTE(daa84 @ May 14, 2006 -> 04:11 PM) how about that second loss to cleveland Hafner's not exactly dog barf. Boone got beat by a good hitter. It happens.
  20. I read this article yesterday morning. Nice article, but I don't want New York sniffing around Coop.
  21. QUOTE(brijames @ May 14, 2006 -> 01:11 PM) I think the Sox would play better if they had to chase somebody rather than having everyone gunning for them. Let the Tigers start taking some of the pressure as the team in first place. I think the Sox perform better when they have a challenge and maybe things were coming a bit too easy for them here early this season. Hopefully all the talk will start about how good the Tigers are this year and our Sox get start feeling disrespected and get that chip back on their shoulders. They'd play better because things come too easy? That sentence is a self contained contradiction.
  22. I propose we make Chris Widger the official whipping boy of Soxtalk. He's only a backup and he doesn't play all that much, so we won't have to listen to it very often. Chris can be this year's Timo.
  23. QUOTE(Sox Machine @ May 14, 2006 -> 11:54 PM) It'd also be nice if the earned run accounted for times when the pitcher made the error. My one complaint about Buehrle is that he let in an enormous amount of unearned runs. He led the league in the department last year with 17, and has 48 over the last three years. Meanwhile, Garland, who had the reputation for years as a pitcher who couldn't overcome mistakes, has allowed only 20 during that stretch. Part of that's due to the discrepancy in innings pitched over the years, but a larger part is days like these. Buehrle's six unearned runs in six innings tonight match Garland's total from 221 innings last season. The problem with that is the ERA is to measure a pitcher's effectiveness as a pitcher, not a defender. I remember asking my father about this situation when I was about 8 years old.
