  1. Regarding Hayden: Here's the link to whole article
  2. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 11, 2006 -> 11:49 AM) Hey, he had just as big a part in the alcs as the rest of the bullpen. Minus Neal. We lost that game.
  3. Sure, why not. I think that lovable loser thing has about run it's course. The Sox winning it all was the one thing the north side tools couldn't take. Cub fans try and take their shots and Sox fans either say "1908" or "Defending World Champs" and that's the end of it. If the Sox win 2 more in the next 5 years and the Cubs continue lovably losing, it cycle will be complete.
  4. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 11, 2006 -> 08:50 AM) I am hoping for the best with Dustin, but not expecting much. The guy was huge for us last year, and its too bad he didn't get a chance to really finish the job he started. I'm glad he got to pitch in the Series, since he was such a big part of us getting there.
  5. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ May 11, 2006 -> 08:36 AM) Man, I thought I had pissed somebody off for a second! Wait ... you mean that you're not THAT Rex Hudler?
  6. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ May 11, 2006 -> 11:41 AM) I will NEVER fault Ozzie for doing anything unconventionally. Arguably, isn't that why he's turned out to be a great manager? I for one you won't see complaining about when Ozzie does things that, as you note, the board goes nuts over. I figure: hey, the man won us a World Series for f***'s sake. I'm not about to second-guess him. Or KW. I trust them. I personally like Thorton's potential and the fact, as you mention, that he's a lefty with Jenks-like heat. So the next time everyone goes apes*** when it's not Jenks, I've got your back. Just note that I said "Fair enough" before I jumped into my little rant. The rant part wasn't directed at you.
  7. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ May 11, 2006 -> 10:36 AM) Who keeps perpetuating the delusion that one day Chicago will become a "Sox" town? The Cubs will always outdraw us and will always be the "Chicago" team. Because: they're more of a cultural phenom than a sports one. Plus the whole "Wrigley" experience/location. And you know what? That's fine with me. One of the bonuses of being a Sox fan is not being one of the herd. Chicago was once a Sox town and will be again. These things are cyclical.
  8. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ May 11, 2006 -> 11:19 AM) Show me where I EVER said Jenks "can't close" and I SAID that I "worry" that teams will eventually figure him out if he's our only closer. Options, people, options. Call it "closer by commitee" if you want but I'm simply saying we should not put all our eggs in one basket. So Jenks blew one! Big deal! That's not why I'm thinking about this, and I am the BIGGEST Jenks fan, so let's knock it off already. We should not put all our eggs in one basket. Fair enough. So what happens when Ozzie tries someone else to see if he can do the job? I'll answer that question. This board explodes with criticism. He used Thornton in the 9th once ... This a lefty with a 97 mph heater ... and everybody went apes***. They go ape s*** if Bobby doesn't get to start the inning. They complain that the bullpen doesn't have defined roles, then go apes*** when he tries to see what his pitchers are capable of, because it doesn't fit the perceived roles that Joe F. Blow thinks the roles should be.
  9. Below is a link to a fairly long article. I found it a very interesting read. I'm also dead serious regarding the thread title. I was quite impressed by what I read. The resurrection of ....
  10. QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 10, 2006 -> 04:42 PM) Nevermind that, you live in Kentucky now, you must be a hick! That's beside the point. The "mutants" were in Illinois.
  11. I am absolutely thrilled for you, Kap.

    QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 11, 2006 -> 02:58 AM) I'd also like to add that if Joe is playing for a contract now then I can't wait to see what he does in 08 when you know..it's his freakin contract year.

    QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 11, 2006 -> 02:54 AM) It's always fun to see someone rationalize giving up on a player after one game. I couldn't see the game but it does sound like Haeger can be a solid major leaguer with a little bit of a work and I'm sure it wasn't easy filling in for the best pitcher in baseball right now. Sadly, that's a fairly common occurance around here.

    QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 11, 2006 -> 02:48 AM) Guerrero-sucks Konerkos-sucks Thome-sucks Pujols-he's ok, I guess Smoltz-sucks Pedro-sucks Johan-sucks I don't see your point. You input is greatly appreciated. :finger

    Here's a few names of the top of my head. Vlad Guerrero Paul Konerko Jim Thome Albert Pujols Jon Smoltz Pedro Martinez Johan Santana What do these guys all have in common? They were ALL rookies at point in their career. So, no Joe Crede and Jon Garland are not 'the best we got".
  16. QUOTE(The-Legend-Of-Pujols @ May 10, 2006 -> 08:27 PM) Not for long... Srry Sox fans but My Cards will end up having the best record again this season. And what did that get your Cards last year?
  17. QUOTE(Benchwarmerjim @ May 10, 2006 -> 03:47 PM) say your team is up 3 runs, but during the 8th inning the set up man melts down and allows 2 runs in. Why do a lot of managers keep thier bigmoney closer in the pen and hope that the lead is still there in the 9th? Because they are afraid of the criticism. The best pitcher in the bullpen needs to be in the game when the game is on the line.
  18. I started to say that I don't think Donald Fehr would be so stupid, but before I got the thought formulated, I had already dismissed it.

    It's common knowledge that a knuckleball pitcher can not be an effective ML reliever. :rolly
  20. Since I was the first to suggest Roeper might have run across the Thome/Mr. Incredible comparison here, I'll also say that I believe what LVSoxFan says. It was a coincidence, I guess. There have been other instances where I've suspected various reporters have gotten their leads from Soxtalk. If I jumped the gun in this case, let me offer my apologies to Mr. Roeper where he'll be sure to see it.
  21. QUOTE(Dam8610 @ May 10, 2006 -> 03:02 PM) How well did he do in the Cy Young voting? Not too well. The reason they put a heavy weight on wins in their formula is because the voters do the same. Anyone who knows anything about baseball knows that that's a stupid way to do things, but it's still the way they do it. Taking into consideration that your statement is accurate, and the fact that it is a Cy Young predictor, not a measure of the most effective pitcher, it's not all that stupid of a formula.
  22. QUOTE(CardsJimEdmonds15 @ May 10, 2006 -> 01:27 PM) No idea.. it's blacked out here on ESPN too.. maybe cuz I get FSMW? It's blacked out here too. But, I can't get it on another station.
  23. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 10, 2006 -> 01:27 PM) The constitution protects Freedom of the Press in the sense that it allows the press to be uncontrolled by the government. But it doesn't allow the press universal freedom to report everything, just like freedom of speech doesn't allow you to shout fire in a movie theater. If the press can't "report everything" then, by definition, aren't they controlled by the government?
  24. QUOTE(beautox @ May 10, 2006 -> 01:27 PM) no worries, we're all human. I have a bad habit of posting, then proofreading.
  25. QUOTE(beautox @ May 10, 2006 -> 01:25 PM) i agree, he definatly "zinged" me, but that doesn't take away from the fact he tried to pass that idea off as an orginal thought, which it clearly was not. lol and i noticed you fixed your grammer in your post, before i could point that out. LOL. Yep. Leaving out words is not good either.
