  1. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 08:58 AM) The day before that game, I was arguing with a friend about who was better between Iguchi and Graffanino. He kept saying they were the same player, but I kept telling him that Graff was a pretty bad defender and that he had a knack for choking when it mattered. As soon as Graffanino let that ball go through his legs, and then Iguchi homered, he had to admit he was wrong. He was pretty pissed that it had to be those two players involved. LMAO. That's effin' great!
  2. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 02:24 PM) Then we have a 1 year WS Title drought. OMG indeed . Expectations, my friend. Last year we weren't expected to do s***. This year, we are considered as strong contenders for the whole enchilada.
  3. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 12:38 PM) Like I said, I don't think much of Gload. I just think that little of Borchard. I guess saying that Gload should be a lock was too strong. Ultimately, if we are just looking for somebody to fill the defensive need in the OF, I'd prefer we find somebody else all together. Either way, we got a strong bench regardless, especially with Cintron aboard. I ain't gonna make a big stink over the 5th OF spot. I think Borchard's versatility and defense will win out over Gload. Borchard is a solid, if not great, outfielder. Gload is a butcher in the OF and we have Konerko, Thome and Mackowiak that can play 1B. Gload's a good hitter, but I believe Ozzie will value Borchard's defense and versatility more than Gload's bat.
  4. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 02:21 PM) Dustin is really strugglin. It's early.
  5. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 02:17 PM) I don't think anybody is claiming him to be "that good." But if you look at what he brings to the team, combined with what we gave up, it's a great move. Yes, It's a damn good move. But the fact remains that Cintron was on a lot of radars last off season, as the starting SS.
  6. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 02:03 PM) Another good article on the White Sox. This is hard to get used to. It's also scary. If we flop, OMG!
  7. A lot of people around here were advocating bringing in Cintron to replace Uribe at SS last off season. He may be good, but he's not that good.
  8. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 01:37 PM) Wow, so if he is outrighted, that means he lost his spot on the 40 man roster too, right? From the article: Not sure how this applies, but it seems to indicate the he would still be on the 40.
  9. Wow! I mean wow! Jermaine Dye is the consummate professional. He's a man of character and class. He also happens to be a pretty damn good baseball player. For someone to take shots at this guy, after the solid year he put up last year is ludicrous.
  10. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 06:29 AM) That would be Rob Mackowiak. That would probably not be the plan for a long term injury. Two weeks or more, we call up one of the kids and they play most of the time which leaves Mack in his role as supersub. At least, that would be my guess.
  11. QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 07:52 PM) First, I did no such thing as direct anything away from him. Pointing out that others have done the same thing - proven or not at this point - and them not being gone after like rabid dogs is valid, IMO. It happens all the time. Was Jordan called out for his gambling or womanizing...? Even after his father was murdered the press still refused to comment on what everyone else knew. Did Cal Ripkin get s*** when he assulted his wife...? And even a bit closer to home.. Sosa... even after the cork was there for all to see barely a negative word was spoken until Grace opened his mouth about what a asshole he was. And then there's the darling McGwire... Even after that asshole sat in front of congress and s*** on that poor man who's son KILLED HIMSELF from using Andro and other roids - just like his "hero" Mark... the press still barely made a peep. Why... because they were nice to the press. If Bonds was a media darling you honestly think these two guys would have spent hour after hour, day after day, week after week, etc, etc... digging up as much dirt as they could...? I'm not blaming anyone but Bonds. If you interpreted differently, you misunderstood. I'm laughing at the witch hunt - which absolutely positively NEEDS to come out - the use of steroids - but the way that it was done is hysterical. And all the people calling for his demise... it's funny. I wonder how they would react if it were their "guy" on their "team". :rolly And you can bet high it's not far off... As for him hitting his girlfriend.. I'm sure he did it - as she's testified to the fact. And it reminds me of a story when a warm and fuzzy to the media guy did something similar and didn't get reported on... You may have heard of him... Sammy Sosa. Nearly KILLED his wife with a rum bottle. And BTW, I wasn't comparing Dykstra, Daulton, Williams, etc, to Bonds.. just making a comment that steriod use has been obvious for a long time. Yet because now they have a jerk personality to nail, they go all out. That statement is one that I find worrisome.
  12. Iguchi had a world of new experiences to deal with last year. Everything from learning a new league and lifestyle to learning where to get a good Japanese meal. I'm sure it was hard on him and wore him down by year's end. I believe he'll have a solid year this year.
  13. Both of them should be considered as "must haves" in any Sox fan's video library.
  14. On the baseball field the man was an inspirational player. RIP Puck.
  15. Between the two of you, you've covered my favorites.
  16. Gagne has left the Dodgers camp, according to ESPN bottom line.
  17. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Mar 3, 2006 -> 12:34 PM) I understand that - and although I think the buses are a stunning picture and says a lot, I wonder if that was something considered. And I wonder once the reality of the actual storm's intensity was truly there, if they actually had enough time to make it out safely. Isn't that what leadership is all about? Proactive thinking and think outside of the box?
  18. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 3, 2006 -> 12:41 PM) Sure looks like it. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/apphoto/pho...7559&sportId=10 I wonder what video game it's for? Mistreated Prima Donnas
  19. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Mar 3, 2006 -> 12:28 PM) You know what bothered me about that picture? If they decided to use those busses to get out of N.O., how far away would they have gotten. Didn't they say it was a 36 hour trip to Baton Rouge at the time? If you were in charge - weigh the possibilities - Have them ride out the storm in a building designed to withstand 200mph winds or risk getting thousands of people stranded in a schoolbus for the heart of the storm? Driving west ... away from the storm ... would have been a good idea.
  20. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 3, 2006 -> 12:19 PM) First responders are trained to think in terms of short time frames. Everything about their training deals in that. So yes, once it was safe to advance out of their shelters or whatever, then the first response should occur. And actually, it did - many local communities had all their EMS, fire, rescue and L/E assets in place (those that didn't abandon ship or were forced to evacuate the area). But they were entirely overwhelmed as soon as they responded to a few emergencies. That pushes up to county-wide, and they had no assets to distribute because the entire county is beaten up. Then state, etc., and they all have nothing to give. So actually, once a regional disaster occurs, it is imperitive for the Feds and/or State (depending on scale of incident) to immediately take control of coordination and communications. Otherwise, that first response is like attacking Godzilla with a bunch of flyswatters. I still can't get past all those school buses sitting there in the flood waters. They should have used those to get as many people as possible out of there. That's the type of 'first response' I'm talking about.
  21. QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Mar 3, 2006 -> 12:02 PM) just an fyi, elizabeth dole is opposing this as well while her husband is advising the co. If she runs for president, then this is an issue.
  22. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 3, 2006 -> 12:05 PM) ^^^^^^^^ I understand where Kap is coming from, and it makes logical sense to put this on local shoulders at the point of impact. But it is just not practical to expect the locals to do anything other than respond to individual emergencies as best as they can. A regional disaster requires a regional response - otherwise, you get pandemonium, just like we saw. Yes, but still, the local and state levels have to be the line of FIRST response. Hold the fort, so to speak. They failed there. The Feds failed in their responsibilities as well, by not efficiently getting the wheels in motion to properly handle a regional disaster.
  23. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 3, 2006 -> 10:54 AM) Oh well in that case I'll shutup. I was thinking we only had two pitchers but than I just assumed Count was on the Cuban team. Thanks for straightening that out Yas. No charge.
  24. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 3, 2006 -> 10:02 AM) What exactly is that? I'm lost cause I swear I saw a him on the front page of ESPN.com about a week ago and the point was that Cuba would only be as good as Contreras and how he would be the guy that needed to carry them. Contreras is basically a non-person in Cuba because he defected. The players on the Cuban team cannot even talk about him, from what I understand from comments made by Jose. He won't be playing with Cuba.
  25. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 3, 2006 -> 09:57 AM) That makes no sense. He wouldn't be reporting to AAA Charlotte that quickly. I was thinking Nomo was coming in to soleley give the club some starter innings during spring training. My thoughts were that maybe the Sox didn't have enough guys to make starts when Vaz, Count and Freddy are at the WBC? Especially if there are some split squad games as well. Obviously Mac, Buehrle, Garland can start and Redding good see some action there. But aside from that the Sox don't have any guys near major league ready that can start. They could give Broadway a shot but he'd get hammered and so would most of the younger minor leaguers they could run out. Plus I would think at one point they'd start making sure Mac was coming in during situations where there were runners on base just so he could get used to it. Same with Redding. Thats just a guess on my part for why Nomo was brought it. He's probably happy to give the club those innings cause it will give him a shot to sign on somewhere else. Contreras isn't at the WBC. He's persona-non-grata with Cuba.
