  1. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 12:04 PM) It would be nice to have a reliable pinch hitter, though. I suppose that Tony would be just a one-trick pony, but every team needs a John Mabry or Lennie Harris. I'll give that one, but that's about it. Still, I think replacing Harris or Ozuna with Graffanino generally weakens the team.
  2. QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 11:42 AM) I didn't think this needed it's own topic... KW was just on Silvy and Carmen. One of the questions they asked him was about Jon and the possbilities of him signing a long term contract. KW definitely did not sound optimistic about anything getting done this offseason and insinuated that if anything gets done, it would be after next offseason. He also stipulated that if prices for SP continued to go up, like this season, Jon would likely test the market and possibly be out of the Sox' range. He also said, "it might not get that far." Silvy asked him what that meant, and he covered his tracks... but it still might mean something. KW said that if they cannot resign Jon, there are internal options that would likely replace him, possibly from the bullpen. Interesting to think about. Cotts.
  3. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 11:36 AM) Boston is now rumored to be shopping Renteria. I see a Cub - BoSox trade all over this. Pierre, Renteria, Lee, Aramirez (sp?), new LF, new RF, Barrett, Cedeno, pitcher. It looks pretty good actually. Who are the Cubs going to trade for Renteria?
  4. If we sign Tony G, who gets the ax? Don't come back with Timo, because Graff is an infielder. He doesn't offer the speed or the glove at 2b that Willie does. He doesn't have the speed tha Ozuna does. Neither Pablo or Tony are good at 3B, but Ozuna plays a better SS imo. I really don't see where Graffanino helps this club any more than either of the other two.
  5. QUOTE(JimH @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 10:46 AM) Not that stats are the be-all end-all but I just looked up Tony's fielding stats at 3B for the last several years. Ouch. Which is why that when I read the post above this one, I thought "Tony G's not the guy they want."
  6. QUOTE(cubs-n-wsox-fan01 @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 10:23 AM) IT IS THE BEST WAY TO DO THE TRADES AND I THINK RockRaines JUST GOT ONE IF IM NOT MISTAKING IS RockRaines22. WILL YOU STOP YELLING AT US?
  7. QUOTE(MarlinFan84 @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 10:34 AM) Yes this is getting ridculous. We now have holes in LF, CF, 2B, and C. I dont think Josh Willingham is good enough to start at the MLB level, but he is right now our starting catcher, but I still think we need another. But we have these huge gaping holes at 4 positions... Delgado for Petit and Jacobs(good move, Jacobs is a good 1B, that filled a hole...good job Beinfest) Lowell, Beckett, Mota for Hanley Ramirez, Anibal Sanchez, Jesus Delgado, and another MiLB pitcher(once again, good move...filled the hole at 2B, but would getting Shoppach instead of Delgado and the other pitcher of been that hard?) Castillo for Bowyer and Tyler...two pitchers, yet no 2B Lo Duca for Gaby Hernandez and MiLB pitcher...bad deal Pierre for Sergio Mitre, Renyel Pinto, and some other thrower blah blah So, we trade a power hitting first baseman, a leadoff hitter with a career average over .300 and had 241 hits in 2004, a (3X)gold glove 2nd baseman, a gold glove 3B, and an all star catcher, and we get two...count them two...position prospects in return, and only one filled a position that was vacated. Yet we traded two pitchers, and got 11 pitching prospects back, in a system that is already loaded with quality young arms. A system that took 5 pitchers in the first round of last years draft. Keep Bowyer, Tyler, Delgado, and Hernandez, trade the rest to fill the rest of our holes with prospects at their respective positions. Please. We need Delgado and Bowyer in the pen, Tyler for the rotation until Volstad is ready, and well Hernandez is just 21. Sanchez and Petit are commodities, teems need good young cheap MLB ready pitching. TB comes to mind. Cincinnatti really comes to mind. You know Oakland and KC would probably be interested. Both LA teams. Sure, 13 players in return for 7 is good, espicially when you hear some of those names. But, when 5 of the players dealt are position players and 11 in return are pitchers, that is lopsided and really doesn't favor us. Please spin these guys somewhere else Beinfest, I beg of you. Don't be so quick to condemn these deals. Everybody needs pitching. The Sox have been drafting pitching, pitching, pitching for years and then trading them for veteran position players to fill needs. I think the Marlins have a plan and it'll prove to be a good one. You may have to suffer for a year, as it takes time for a plan to come together. Next off season, they may trading these guys for solid ML position players, along with cash to pay a large hunk of their salaries.
  8. QUOTE(Texsox @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 09:53 AM) So if Dean doesn't know how many US servicemen were killed in Vietnam, he doesn't have a clue about Iraq. This only applies to Dean. I get it. Well he certainly didn't have a clue about Nam, and he lived through that era.
  9. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 09:50 AM) I think the Chinese can deal with these punks. What makes you think they want to?
  10. Eh. I've made my point. Assumptions were made and conclusions were jumped to without any idea what the hell actually happened. You all go ahead and continue to direct your slings and arrows of outrageous fortune at whichever available target appears next.
  11. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 09:43 AM) I've been waiting for this. "Where can we go so the Americans can't get to us?" "China" "BRILLIANT!!!!!"
  12. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 09:44 AM) You're putting forth the proposition that there is an equal likelyhood that the perps are evolutionists as opposed to them being Christian extremists? You didn't work as a tobacco industry lawyer in a past life did you? Based on the information at hand, one assumption can be made just as easily as the other. They are both possible scenarios, that were dreamed up without any factual basis whatsoever.
  13. Well, that makes sense. The Chinese aren't going to let us in there to combat them.
  14. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 09:38 AM) Give me back my tinfoil hat, YAS! I hear ya. Which is what I was thinking when the assumption was made that these guys were Christians. Of course, that was also done without any basis in fact.
  15. QUOTE(Balance @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 09:28 AM) Assumptions? You're asking us to assume that the professor was lying. No. He may be telling the truth. He could just be a patsy in an evil evolutionist plot.
  16. QUOTE(Balance @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 09:25 AM) Jim beat me to the punch. But he's right. Anyone who thinks that the two felons who attacked that professor did it for some reason unrelated to his class is intentionally misleading themselves. It could have just as easily been two evolutionists who wanted to give creationists some bad publicity. Let's not just make assumptions here.
  17. QUOTE(Texsox @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 07:49 AM) This depends on what we call victory. We haven't been able to stop crime in our country. Gangs terrorize neighborhoods, drive by shooting, innocent person tied to fence post and killed because he was gay, dragged behind a pick up because he was black, beaten because he dared teach an anti-religious view of our origins. So if we are trying to wipe all crime from Iraq, we can't. And much of this is criminal, we aren't fighting an army. We removed Hussein, that was a victory. But removing all the terrorist gangs? We can't. YASNY, you are right, if someone doesn't know about Viet Nam, how could they know about Iraq? Misquoting the death numbers is just plane stupid and sloppy. That's why I thought Kerry had a better handle on what to do in Iraq. He fought in Viet Nam, He had people shooting at him. Bush stayed stateside, occasionally flying a plane. Who had the better clue? I wasn't talking about Bush or Kerry. I was talking about Dean. Stay on the subject matter at hand.
  18. QUOTE(WinninUgly @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 07:24 AM) I was thinking about the Sox adding him once I saw the free agent list come out. He would be a good fit if he wanted to play that utility role - as long as he doesn't let grounders roll through his legs. If he does sign with us, he deserves a standing O when he makes his first plate appearance at the Cell.
  19. Poor little fella has had a rough start. Hang in there Steff.
  20. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, Steff.
  21. Howard Dean. What a joke. This guy had the nerve to compare it to Viet Nam as an unwinnable war. He's certainly an expert on history and the Viet Nam War. He said something along the lines of 25000 young Americans lost their lives in Nam. Considering the number was closer to 50000 tells you this dips*** doesn't have a clue about the Viet Nam War, and therefore probably knows jacks*** about Iraq.

    Dear Life,

QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 04:53 PM) Cerb, I got hit on the 19th of Nov. Some lady couldn't figure out that a red light means stop & instead thought it meant plow into traffic. She admitted it was her fault -- my car's target date to have it fixed according to the body shop is Dec. 23 -- the lady who hit me's insurance is paying for it all. Nailed the back of my car and caused damage that costs about half what I purchased the new car for just a few months before. Do not just settle for having the car fixed. You have taken a loss in the fact that you now have a once wrecked car which has a lower value than a never wrecked car. I pulled an $600 cash from an insurance company with that piece of logic.
  23. Let's hear from some of our Barons watchers. You've seen this play for the Lookouts. Any thoughts?
  24. QUOTE(qwerty @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 11:53 PM) He won't even have the amount of at-bats to qualify let alone win it. Frank says he's healed right now.
  25. QUOTE(JimH @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 12:56 PM) Very worthy of a thread bump here, I just received my print via Priority Mail this afternoon and it looks fantastic . Even better in person than it looks on the website. If you've been on the fence with this, order one, it is well worth the nominal cost. Thanks for the info. I believe I'll be receiving one of these on Dec. 25th.
