  1. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 10:52 AM) Yup all those prominent, potentially America leading Democrats were all about propping up her battle. You should be focusing on Canada. Your buddies are about to take a nosedive.
  2. QUOTE(shakes @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 10:33 AM) NFL teams do this from time to time, to keep there cap free down the road. I have never heard of this happening in MLB. MLB likes to do it like the Marlins did with Delgado last year. Get a year or two on the cheap, then trade 'em off to the Yankees or Mets.
  3. QUOTE(Steve Bartman's my idol @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 10:39 AM) G-d Bless! You can actually type the whole word. God isn't politically incorrect. Yet.
  4. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 10:32 AM) No, I meant what alphabet would come after the Greek. Just for s***s and giggles. We could talk about the dangers of Hurricane Gimel, or we could laugh for hours and hours as the CNN anchors talked about the damage tropical storm (pick a kanji, any kanji) might do to New Orleans. Imagine the possibilities! It's a dull morning. I stand corrected.
  5. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 10:38 AM) I saw the Rolling Stones on tour this past fall at Soldier Field, let me tell you this: they have NOT been reduced to nothing. This isnt a band that has been on the State Fair circuit that has some name recognition. The Stones still sell out and put on a great show. Also, I think Ashley Simpsons performance at the sugarbowl and the subsequent reaction to her performance(if you dont remember, think of the entire Superdome booing her) has scared the people who produce the Superbowl away from contemporary acts. They are just using oldies but goodies because they cant go wrong. Chubby Checker in 1985, anyone? You may think I'm a boob, but Janet Jackson may have something to do with them being cautious.
  6. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 10:27 AM) I don't think anyone ever worried enough about it to come oup with a third alphabet. My guess would be that there is not another foreign alphabet familiar enough in the western world to be used, and they might opt for Roman numerals if we ever saw a season get that far. Of course that's never gonna happen. . . Maybe the question was meant to be ... What's the next letter of the Greek alphabet?
  7. QUOTE(wcw2323 @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 10:16 AM) A recent article had Lance Broadway and Charles Haeger listed as the two pitchers who are most ready for the big leagues. Haeger was 14-5 last year at Wnston-Salem and Birmingham. Do you think the Sox will give a knuckleballer a shot in the rotation? BA said Haeger has "back of the rotation" major league potential. He chews up innings and keeps his team in the game, just like Wakefield does for the Red Sox. If he can produce .500 numbers as a #4 or #5 starter it would be a huge bonus. He may eventually get a shot at a long relief position. If he's successful, then maybe someday he'll get a shot at the rotation.
  8. QUOTE(Soxy @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 10:07 AM) No, I found objectionable Kap's post (which was "serious" except maybe the part about Al Gore, which sounded pretty mocking) and Nuke's reply. Initially I was going to put something in my post about how really only one person on this board could make any judgements about a grieving parent--but I figured why make it personal to you? I appreciate your thoughtfulness. Thank you.
  9. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 09:54 AM) Why not? She's a willing participant. How would you feel about it if Ms. Sheehan's place was occupied by Ms. Nuke Cleveland? She may have had a different political outlook than yours, but she is the mother of one of your 'brothers in arms'.
  10. Soxy, I thought that maybe the first sentence of my post was what you found objectionable. It was an honest mistake, if you take it into the context of a message board. I do sincerely apologize.
  11. QUOTE(Middle Buffalo @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 09:48 AM) Something I don't understand about contracts. Why don't teams front-load contracts? For instance, the Sox offer PK 5/60mil. Pay him 16-14-12-10-8. That way, at the end, when other players are up for contracts, the Sox have more to offer to maintain their budget. Why do people use credit cards? Buy now, pay later.
  12. QUOTE(Soxy @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 09:44 AM) Um, uncalled for. Obviously, I wasn't referring to you. I hadn't even read your reply when I posted that. I apologize then, Soxy.
  13. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 09:44 AM) Lets see the Angels offered 4/ 50 million (12.5 / year) The Orioles offered 5/60 million (12/year) We had reportedly offered 4/52 million ( 13/year)- Thats the highest offer so far and with this being his team for the last 7 seasons I like our chances of us keeping him. If that 5th year is a concern than offer a player option with incentives. My only concerned left now is Boston! They tend to spend ALOT of money on free agents. However, if we can lock Pauly down before Boston makes an offer he's back in black! Lets hope that Manny thing doesn't get figured out for a long time. If Paulie resigns with us, 'Back in Black' should be his theme song.
  14. QUOTE(mreye @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 09:43 AM) Very well put, Yas. That pretty much sums up how I feel about it. Thanks. Join the 'Absolutely repulsive' club.
  15. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 09:41 AM) The only thing that scares me with Boston is them screwing up the asking price. I really dont think Paul has any desire to play for Boston, and thats why im not taking the O's rumors to heart. However, if Boston does unload Manny to lets say the Mets, then Boston goes ga ga over Paul, even if Paul doesnt want to go there, if Boston makes him an offer of 5/67, it could screw everything up. I guess we will just have to wait and see..... Paulie would be a fool to go to Boston. He's not going to put up Manny-like numbers and the Fenway fanatics would eat him alive.
  16. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 09:21 AM) Caption this picture. My submission: "Am I really that played out?" I've always felt that she allowed herself to be used by those that could for their own agenda. I'm not going to disrespect her now that her influence appears to be on the wane. While dealing with her heartbreak and her loss, she did what she felt was right and what she had to do. May God be with you, Cindy.
  17. Let me kick this off. I haven't had any negative expriences dealing with any Soxtalk members yet. In fact, the following were more than fair when I had dealings with them. Sox fans, especially Soxtalkers, are the best! Steff Rowand44 Kevin57 I also appreciate that this gives me an opportunity to give each of the above a heartfelt public "Thank You!"
  18. This one has been running around for years. Supposedly, this old monk or pope or whatever, ID'ed JPII with some reference to the sun, or solar, and JPII was born and died during active solar eclipses occuring somewhere on earth.
  19. The is going to be a "Hoops Fest" at a local high school. There will be 8 state champion playing, including Oak Hill Academy. Roy Williams, Bob Huggins and Tommie Amaker, among others, are expected to attend. Any of you hoops junkies in So. Illinois might want to come down to western KY Saturday.
  20. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 07:37 AM) I think there needs to be a display/room/area that discusses baseball history and Rose should be discussed there, along with the Black Sox, etc. IMHO the Hall needs to be part of a baseball museum. I will say this, I think betting on baseball, in the manner that Rose did, is less an offense than using steroids when they were banned. Rose betting on the outcome of a game he was not involved in does not effect the competition, a player in that same game on steroids is taking an unfair advantage outside the rules and does effect the competition. He walked into that clubhouse for however many years and everyday saw that sign posted in every clubhouse that betting on baseball will get you banned. So Pete, in all his brillance, places bets in the damn clubhouse. He has no excuse.
  21. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 08:29 AM) I wasn't even looking at the trade proposal that was made, I was just answering his question. Smart move.
  22. Paulie's sitting on his ass in Arizona or wherever, making millions.
  23. QUOTE(TLAK @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 06:43 AM) Rose only needs one vote, Seligs. If the gambling ban were lifted and he appeared on the ballot his credentials are inargueable. That said, for over 80 years the punishment for gambling on baseball has been banning -its written on the clubhouse wall- and Rose did the crime so he has no one to blame but himself. Correct ... but with a great big HOWEVER .... This is Rose's final year of 'eligibility' under the HOF rules. After this year, he has to answer to what was put in place to replace the veterans committee. I think he'd have an easier time getting in via the sports writers than all the living HOF'ers.
