  1. QUOTE(3E8 @ May 24, 2005 -> 06:50 AM) Well that post just put this topic to rest. For some reason, I doubt it.
  2. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 24, 2005 -> 08:12 AM) Why not, its what Dusty does. If he were a woman, he would be the battered housewife making excuses in front of the judge for her husband. Excuses, excuses, excuses... With as long as Dusty's been in the game, you'd think he'd it figured out by now. Of course, he has figured that blacks and latins are better in the heat, so he's not a complete idiot. Assuming green wasn't neede for that last sentence.
  3. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 23, 2005 -> 04:08 PM) Link The draft is what, a month away? I'm really looking forward to it. Craig Hansen might be a decent pick at #15, but I'm not sure how they'd feel on taking a reliever in the first round. I'd assume that Hansen is one of those Huston Street/Chad Cordero types who makes it to the big club within a year or so? I have read somewhere that Hansen probably won't get past the Mets at #9.
  4. QUOTE(shagar69 @ May 23, 2005 -> 11:01 PM) damn whats up with the Reds closer situation? I heard that Wagner was supposed to be the closer now, but weathers got the save tonight, wtf? The Reds were probably showcasing Weathers to trade him to the Cubs.
  5. Griffey and Weathers. That's my guess. I hope it's not the Twins because you know they'll rip off the Cubs big time.
  6. QUOTE(kapkomet @ May 23, 2005 -> 12:23 PM) We have had one freaking thunderstorm since February, that's it. This weekend was 100. So, what's in the forecast for this weekend? Rain. Just in time for the Sox to roll into town. That figures. :headshake
  7. QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 23, 2005 -> 03:23 PM) LOL...it's Wrigley. They could probably just save money if they have the same company that puts in the troughs install a jumbo trough in place of the basket. It'd match the smell of the place, that's for sure. And some drunk Cub fan would get confused about where he was, stand up and let fly. You KNOW it would happen.
  8. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ May 24, 2005 -> 04:05 AM) He was doubly embarrased after just standing there at 1st and getting picked off with the game on the line the previous afternoon. Derek Lee is totally dense and clueless. You would expect a 9 year old playing ball with his friends to get fooled by something like that not a "professional" baseball player. Uribe took a shot and it paid off in saving us a run and if Lee was too stupid as to fall for it thats his own problem. Agreed
  9. If, and it's a big if, the quote by Konerko is complete, accurate and printed in the proper context, then Paulie should have kept quiet. As for Uribe. I'm sorry, but vehemently disagree with the people who feel Uribe is wrong. Throughout the history of baseball, there have been countless schemes devised to deceive the opposition. Uribe threw his arms up in the air, did he say "foul ball" or not? I don't know, but it really doesn't matter to me. I was an attempt to deceive whether he lied or not. To me, there is no difference. The Twins pulled this on Lonnie Smith and won a World Series because of it. Who got crucified? It wasn't the Twin's infielder. It was Smith. Why? Because it was a bonehead f***ing play on Smith's part. If the ARod situation isn't comparable, this example most certainly is. ARod knew he was going to be out and tried to knock the ball hoping the umps wouldn't call it. The umps got it right, as they should have. I don't think it was bad baseball. Reggie Jackson stuck his hip in front of thrown ball, creating an error on a throw and he was safe as result. That is not bad baseball. Dick Williams walked out to mound with Bench at the plate and 3-2 count on him. He pointed and 1st base and said "put him on" to Fingers. The catcher signalled for the IBB and Fingers threw a fastball right down the pipe and Bench never moved his bat. Did they deceive Bench? You bet your ass they did? Bad baseball? Not in my opinion. Gutsy baseball. Didn't the Sox pull a fake DP on the Cubs last year? I don't think that's bad baseball. Fielders are always doing little things to fake out a runner when the runner does not have the play in front of him. It's part of the game people. It's the baserunner's job to know what is going on. Pick up your coach like a professional. Have you ever seen a firstbaseman fake a cutoff on a throw to the plate? I have. And that's smart baseball. Is it an attempt to deceive? Hell yes it is. Deceiving baserunners, or attempting to do so, has been occuring for over 100 years and will occur for the next 100, and beyond.
  10. QUOTE(tempe85 @ May 24, 2005 -> 02:03 AM) By the way I have to ask you guys.... Where did Iguchi come from? Last year Kaz Matsui had unbelievable hype and chatter and then ended up bombing. I never even heard of Iguchi until just recently and he seems to be twice the player of Kaz and plays the same position. Mets fans are not exactly happy campers about Iguchi.
  11. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 23, 2005 -> 11:49 PM) I thought it was common knowledge that KW is gone if he doesn't get to the playoffs this year? That's just been speculated around here. It's highly unlikely, in my opinion.
  12. QUOTE(Dam8610 @ May 23, 2005 -> 09:16 PM) Yeah, some jackass Flubs fan had to email them about how he thought the Uribe play was unfair. What I liked about it was Wilbon and Kornheiser BOTH basically said the guy was an idiot and the play was legit. What I can't believe is Dusty Baker actually complaining about that play. He should be jumping Lee's ass for being stupid enough to fall for it, instead of whining to media about it.
  13. QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ May 23, 2005 -> 09:29 AM) I think it's just Sox fan tradition to b****. Quit b****ing about my b****ing.
  14. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 23, 2005 -> 09:19 AM) This consumer alert has just been issued for all females. BE AWARE!! Damn. I had such big plans.
  15. So Newsweek does not have an anti-American agenda, huh? I just saw on TV, a cover of the Japanese edition of Newsweek. This cover showed the American flag in a goddamn trash can. Newsweek can kiss my USA loving ass!
  16. It took the Reds longer to figure it out. He didn't stay with the Sox long at all.
  17. QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 23, 2005 -> 09:11 AM) Why not? People post stuff about Mariotti here all the time. What's the difference? It's a Sox fan tradition to b**** about mariotti.
  18. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ May 23, 2005 -> 08:57 AM) How can you not enjoy it? I like that the series are a month apart again, last year they were like 2 weeks apart. I'd change one thing: make the series an odd number of total games. Make it either 5 total or 7 total. Alternate which park gets more games each year. That way there is no season split and someone gets bragging rights. 5 out of 6 will give us bragging rights. No worries.
  19. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ May 23, 2005 -> 08:57 AM) Either way, 'clearly' this thread is meaningless...who cares its a 2b in the book, the cubs won the game HR or not so whats the point??? Good point.
  20. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 23, 2005 -> 08:54 AM) That's what I was thinking too. If you follow the pattern of the chain link, it disappears behind the ball. It is a gridded pattern, and the pattern accross the ball curves, I think you are looking at the seams. One thing for sure, you can't "clearly" see it either way.
  21. I don't feel Ozzie made a mistake. He did what he thought was the best for the club at the time and it didn't work out. s*** happens.
  22. QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 22, 2005 -> 11:12 AM) To give Rowand a break maybe? Rowand has been struggling at the plate lately, although Carl has as well. Maybe Rowand needs a break. I don't know. He just had a 12 game hitting streak broken and he's had two potential doubles go just foul in the past two games. Doesn't seem like he's struggling to me.
  23. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ May 22, 2005 -> 10:58 AM) I've been banned once this year for simply being argumentative in another post. No violation of a rule & nothing any worse than that of any other member posting in that thread. I'm well aware that when it comes to certain moderators of this site I do not share their political or anti-religious views & that is going to stack the deck against me in any & all threads. Though it reaks of injustice it is still better than WSI. Get into a baseball argument with a moderator over there & you will be banned for life. For that I am thankful to SOXTALK because they provide an outlet for WSox fans like myself. You have not convinced me that the WSox needed to trade C Lee to get Pods. I have not convinced you that they could have gotten Pods for less than the value of C Lee. So let's just respectfully disagree on that issue & move on. You have a deal.
  24. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ May 21, 2005 -> 05:23 PM) People at work know not to click a link called cheerleader pics. How about if they don't post links that would get someone fired without proper warning? That does not seem to be an unreasable request to me.
