Twins player suspended for Roids
There's been a few Sox players and ex-players mentioned around here as possibilities in that regard. We know two ex-Sox for certain. Let's just can the holier than thou attitudes.

Wood out at least three weeks...
QUOTE(eveninfirstplacetheseatsareempty @ May 3, 2005 -> 09:53 AM) what a comment!!! Steve Stone for pitching coach!! That would be awesome, huh? Why isn't the HAWK your batting coach, genius? I'll say this about that comment. When Don Drysdale was the Sox announcer, I always wanted him to be the pitching coach. What makes you think Stone wouldn't be qualified to be a pitching coach. I would assume that he knows something about pitching.

Ordonez exit made Sox better
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 3, 2005 -> 10:02 AM) Yeah, the statement was fairly ambiguous. It is interesting how it comes off completely different to other people. Yes. But I was right.

Ordonez exit made Sox better
QUOTE(Steff @ May 3, 2005 -> 09:49 AM) What I'm trying to say, is that even though Albert was great for the Sox, Sullivan is attaching the "mean angry Albert" image he had in Cleveland to him. In Cleveland, Albert was portrayed by the media as an angry young man. Sullivan found an easy target and took his shot.

Another Great Boyer Idea...
I didn't want to quote your whole post, but I totally agree. This is quite refreshing compared to the way things have gone in the past.

Ordonez exit made Sox better
QUOTE(Steff @ May 3, 2005 -> 09:45 AM) I don't get how he compared Maggs to Albert...?? Did Albert say ONE negative word about the Sox when he left...?? No. Did he talk s*** about the GM...? No. Did he talk s*** about the owner...? No. Did he talk s*** about them not giving him more $$..? No. As a matter of fact Albert praised Jerry Manuel to no end, and talked nothing but good about his time in Chicago. Pretty lame of Sullivan on that point. Albert brought some baggage with him from Cleveland. Apparently, he's still carrying it on his back.

Ordonez exit made Sox better
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 3, 2005 -> 09:34 AM) Well said, but I think most of us knew in the off-season that this team was going to be better, if most things fell into place, and they have, so in my mind it's a little late. It's not us that I'm glad he wrote the article for. I know ... horrid grammar, but I couldn't figure out how else to say it.

Impressed by Iguchi?
QUOTE(Finkelstein @ May 3, 2005 -> 09:35 AM) Iguchi seems like the kind of player that Ozzie loves. He's smart, tough and unselfish. Batting in the 2 hole he knows what his role is, getting on base and moving runners. He has done a terrific job so far. I agree that the power numbers will come once he feels a bit more comfortable. Iguchi's doing the job as a number two hitter. He'll pick his spots and put a few in the bleachers. Welcome to Soxtalk.

Ordonez exit made Sox better
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 3, 2005 -> 09:29 AM) Thank you Captain Obvious. We've been complaining that the media hasn't been considering "the obvious". I was glad to see this article for those that have been reading all the drivel about how the Sox can't possibly be as good as last year.

Cousins Wed....
QUOTE(Steff @ May 3, 2005 -> 09:06 AM) I sure hope I didn't imply that it's my opinion that they would.. Not at all. Just putting things in perspective. Not all of society accepts interracial marriage either.

Cousins Wed....
QUOTE(Steff @ May 3, 2005 -> 08:57 AM) I can with absolute positivity say that not ALL of society does or will ever condone this... Not ALL of society will condone gay marriage.

Cousins Wed....
QUOTE(Steff @ May 3, 2005 -> 08:47 AM) Apparently, that would be YOUR logic.... If it's not condoned as of now, it's heading that way. See formerly male golfers playing in women's gold tourneys for an example.

QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ May 3, 2005 -> 08:43 AM) Double the risk from non-related couples, if the articles cited in this thread are right. True. You can look at it as double the risk, or as a greater than 90% chance their be no problems of any kind. It's all how you want to spin it.

Garland is Wood and Wood now Garland??
Typical of the Chicago media. We've been listening to the Wood hype for years, based on a whole bunch of nothing. Now that things are reversed, they dismiss it as unfair.

Garland Haters and Lovers prior to 05'
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ May 3, 2005 -> 07:46 AM) Remember that I was responding to the statement "the less strikeouts the better with Jon". Look, if you're looking at the outcome of a game after the fact, and you take it as given that Jon has already thrown a cg so, then obviously it doesn't matter one whit if he had 27 strikeouts or 27 warning track fly balls. The game's over at that point. But if in the course of a game you find yourself saying, I'd rather Jon not strike this guy out, then you're nuts. A strikeout is virtually always better than the uncertainty of having the ball in play. That's all I'm saying on this, I still can't believe anyone thinks strikeouts hurt the pitcher's team. Actually, there are valid points on both sides of the argument. Jackie, your's speaks for it self. K's are good and there can't be any mishap outside of a dropped third strike. Pretty straightforward. The other line of thinking, is that strikeouts generally result in higher pitch count for the pitcher. If you can effectively pitch to get someone to beat a wormburner on pitch one or two of an at bat, that's better than 2 and 2 strikeout pitch. There is more than one way to be an effective pitcher. Look at that classic matchup a few days ago. Clemens vs. Maddux. These guys were both great, yet they had completely different styles. Maddux wasn't a great K pitcher, yet he was a great pitcher. So saying the Garland's lack of K's is troubling may not be indicitive of what he can accomplish.

Wood out at least three weeks...
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 3, 2005 -> 07:05 AM) Well I guess I ended up being 3 weeks early on my Memorial Day DL prediction... Any guesses on Prior? It's already one outing too late.

Cousins Wed....
QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ May 3, 2005 -> 06:54 AM) I think the incestual marriage has been ruled out due to the fact of increase in deformities and other such things that could cause "freak show" children...where as gay marriage I am fairly certain one wouldn't have to concern much with that.... The statistics showed only a slight increase of that possibility. So that doesn't carry much weight.

Cousins Wed....
I'd be interested in hearing what some of the pro-gay marriage folks have to say about this situation. How does it compare, in a theoretical way? If gay marriage is okay, are incestual marriages okay as well. If not, why?

Twins player suspended for Roids
QUOTE(beck72 @ May 3, 2005 -> 05:49 AM) The players giving a clean test before they come back should be a no brainer. But wouldn't they still have the drugs in their system after only 10 days? That's why players should be gone for more than 10 games. I could see a compromise with Selig's 50 game suspension to something like 25 or 30 games for 1st positives I'd guess that they would still have the drug in their system. So, they fail, get tested in 5 more days and hope. If they fail again, 5 more days. So on and so forth. Hell, they put the stuff there. Not letting them play until it's not there anymore is only common sense.

The New Sox
QUOTE(mrzo2733 @ May 3, 2005 -> 06:07 AM) I agree with most of you in that I like this team a lot more and in the end I think the record will support that. But I definitely agree with what the writer said about why have our record. I think our pitching is extremely responsible for our record. I really think that the hitting will pick up but I have to agree that if our offense continues like this we are going to struggle to play .500 ball. I think those points are each a "given". The pitching has carried us. The hitting should (it better!) pick up. If it doesn't this will be a long year.

Twins player suspended for Roids
QUOTE(beck72 @ May 3, 2005 -> 04:59 AM) Something new was in your CBS article. Mike Sciocias [sp?] comments were right on. That in 10 days, Rincon would still be getting the benefits of the drugs, and the penalty should be harsher. The answer to that dilemma is so obvious, there is no viable excuse why it hasn't been implemented. Ten day minimum suspension and clean drug test before reinstatement.
