QUOTE(TheBlackSox8 @ Jan 14, 2005 -> 12:28 AM) thats the thing.....a lot of the kids are succeeding in the minors...but when they come up they don't show s***....granted they usually aren't up long enough...but still...How can you keep throwing a minor leaguer out there on a major league roster and have him suck it up and learn. If the keep sucking it up..they aren't learning anything. Well, you have to give a kid the time to learn, then prove, whether or not they can handle the majors. For example, it has been said of a couple of our young pitchers that it's hoped they never pitch for the Sox again, or start, or whatever. yet, we've had guys get pulled up from AA, given one start. Then sent back down and in some minds here they become equal to the value of a pile of s***. That's nucking futs.

Harris is getting critcized for mot being patient enough when he is hot? Wow. Let's see. He's seeing the ball real well and hitting the ball with authority. Yep, that's when he should have the bat on his shoulder. :headshake -

QUOTE(Loaiza21 @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 10:41 PM) You don't know how he's going to do in the AL, he won't necessarily do worse. Especially against the AL Central pitching. Gimme Darrell May anyday. As for at bats it was around 400. I think he can still handle the load. Who gives a s*** that he's in his 40's. I just can't go through another season resting my hope on Willie Harris. The guy is a pinch runner. No, I don't "know" how he's going to do in the AL. I do know that I'd prefer to find out with him wearing a Devil Rays uniform. -

QUOTE(Loaiza21 @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 10:32 PM) When was the last time Alomar hit friggin .290? LOL. I knew that was coming. Actually, I referring to "all time greats" part of the comment. Now, to address Larkin's BA, to expect a 40+ aged player to come into a new league and perform at an everyday level like he did in the "familiar" league is going out on a limb. Question though ... Approximately how many AB's did Larkin have last year? Wasn't he a part timer or injured? If so, that also has to figure into the equation. -

QUOTE(Loaiza21 @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 10:22 PM) What's Cora's contract? I bet we coulda nabbed him for a cheap amount. But why not Barry Larkin for one year? Larkin is dying to start, you plug Uribe at 2B. I think it could work, I mean he did hit .289 last season...Are we being retarded here? I'd rather have an all-time great like Larkin at SS instead of starting Willie. Using that logic, we should have not let Roberto Alomar leave. -
Saying the Ordonez and Lee "don't count" isn't quite right because KW was a key part of the organization. That being said, it also helps condemn KW. He's only been GM for 4 years, and it takes time to build a quality minor league system. Since he was part of the organization prior to being GM, he has to accept part of the blame that in recent years we have not seen, in general, successful promotions to the majors. The fact that he was not "in charge" gives him some wiggle room in the responsibility issue. However, time is running out. Some of these kids have to start stepping up and succeeding. This is including the kids he's acquired in trades. Harris, Cotts, Adkins, etc ... are all on KW.

If they trade Davis, there is no reason that they can't recall or resign Burke.

I agree that sigs can be too tall and therefore become an annoyance. If there is a need for me to alter mine, one of the Admins shoot me an IM and I'll do so.

QUOTE(TheDybber @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 12:29 PM) HOLY CRAP!!! I just checked the playoff standings and if the season ended today, the BULLS WOULD BE IN THE PLAYOFFS!!! You gotz to be kidding me. I know it's early, but to see the Bulls with a little number 8 next to their name makes me giddy. Coming from an 0-9 start to that is quite an accomplishment. I hope they can keep it rolling now that they have turned the tide.

QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 12:23 PM) Well that's good, but what percentage of aid have they given to Africa this year? That I'd like to know. AIDS makes this tsunami look like a b****. I don't have a clue. What about Canada?

QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 12:17 PM) This post made me go out and do some research. -Since World War 2 US Foreign Aid has gone from 15% of the federal budget to .72%. -In 2000 the top recipient of US aid was Israel!?! -Of the other top beneficiaries in 2000 none were from Africa -As of 2000 America isn't even close to being the top foreign aid giver when it comes to percentage of gross domestic product -UN recommends at least 0.7% of the GDP, the US as of 2000 have given 0.1%. -As of January 10 the US was 5th in total amount of aid given (gov't money) Well ... keeping in mind that statistics can be massaged, in fiscal year 2003 the US can 40% of all world wide aid for disaster relief. Just an example twisted statistics. It is probably true, but, like yours, statistics can say exactly what you want them to.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 11:59 AM) We will all hold our breath With the Sox payroll our backups have to minimum wage guys. We can't have much sitting on the bench. I consider that May 1st thing a blessing. We don't need Robbie Alomar, part 3.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 11:55 AM) I guess being from Kentucky, you are familiar with that sort of thing Dude, I know you meant as a joke, but I don't find funny at all. My cousin/girlfriend wouldn't appreciate it at all.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 11:42 AM) http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/features/freeagents Robbie is still looking for a gig. Sandy signed weeks ago. I was a little surprised, I thought he signed as well. For the right price, he could be an interesting re-signing. I wonder what our options are since technically he's "ours" Since we didn't offer him arbitration, I don't think we can talk to Robbie till May 1st.

Somewhere under the radar while we sighed Kenny Williams lingered there as we wondered why Somewhere under the radar Kenny flew He signed A J Pierzynski and El Duque too Some day we'll see a pennant fly And wake up where Sox blues are far behind us When bunting lines the upper deck We'll raise a toast to ol' Bill Veeck and all that binds us Somewhere under the radar 'Tis where we fly We fly under the radar As we reach for the sky If Marlins and Angels can be the world champions Why, oh why can't we

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 11:09 AM) KW I doubt. There are players who check out the site, I know that for a fact. If I had to guess, I wouldn't be surprised if the PR dept keeps an eye on us and WSI. I would be willing to bet if anything interesting gets said, it does get passed up the ladder though. I certainly believe some of the local newspaper columnists read us.

QUOTE(Loaiza21 @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 10:57 AM) Wilson Valdez doesn't deserve to be on this team, he's done nothing to prove he can hit up here yet so we shouldn't have him as backup option #1 for any reason. Spend the money to get Iguchi in here! Valdez can serve as a defensive replacement, to rest a regular or as a short term filler in case of an injury. If someone gets hurt long term, we'd have to get someone ASAP.
-
QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 10:50 AM) I still want to see KW add a veteran INF... didn't have to be Cora, but hope he can pull something out (even though he would be a rookie, I think Iguchi can fill this hole). But it doesn't have to be flashy, I would have accepted a player the level of the Ex-Cub Alex Gonzalez (I know he's with TB now, but an example). I want to see a competent backup... don't want to rely on Valdez I agree. I just don't think Cora is a good fit for this club. We'd be replacing Willie Harris with a slow Willie Harris.
