  1. There's just no words that are adequate. :headshake
  2. This reminds me of those "Can the Bears make the playoffs" posts earlier.
  3. Well, it was obviously a blown call on that touchdown that never was. But I have a question for you guys about one that was reversed ... in the Lions favor, of course ... That was the fumble that was overturned. The ref said the ball came out when his elbow hit the ground (which it did) and therefore the runner was down by contact. Did anyone see any contact that caused him to go do or be ruled down before the ball popped out? The way I saw it, he slipped, and if he hadn't have fumbled the ball he could have attempted to get up and run. Therefore he was not "down by contact".
  4. TLAK and JimH have interesting and valid points. In fact, they are so valid that George Steinbrenner actually used the two points... 1. Reinvesting the "paper" profit in to the team 2. Which in turn allowed NY to "go for it" .... to rebuild the Yankee dynasty and put them in this position of having so much income that they can afford to make $80 million mistakes like a steriod enhanced first baseman.
  5. My thinking with the gift certificates was that at least the one son was enough of a fan to have Thomas autograph. They are receiving other types of charity, as expressed in the article. It might be nice to let them indulge with something entertaining like attending a Sox game or two.
  6. Hey guys and gals, let's run with this thought. A little Soxtalk brainstorming, so to speak. Is there someway we can use Soxtalk to raise some type of Sox related charity for these people. We've got the Gift Certificate link. Can we each purchase GC's and maybe send them all to one person here to be packaged and delivered to the family? Let's hear some ideas and try and build a "coalition of the willing".
  7. When it comes to catcher, basically, we're screwed.
  8. Dude ... the thing I said about Duke getting the most respect of any program ... hey, that was a compliment to the Dukies and Coach K. Don't get your panties in a twist.
  9. Unless KW is just overwhelmed, I believe Konerko with be with the Sox in '05.
  10. All the talk I heard was that if the Angels signed a SS, that tey'd move Eck to 2B because Kennedy was hurt. I was shocked when he was non-tendered and I'm sure many around baseball were too. So my question is, how would KW know the Eckstien was available? In fact, was he available before the Angels overpaid for Cabrera? Kenny! Read those tea leaves every day.
  11. I don't think we should "offer" the starting job to either one. Let them earn it.
  12. Hopefully, that works as a wake up call to Willie. Naaaah! That won't happen. :headshake
  13. 15? .... Kids :headshake Naaah .... Happy Birthday!!!!
  14. After a 10"+ snowfall and lower single digit temperatures, with a damn near full moon to boot, this year reminds me of several Christmases from my childhood in Chicago Ridge, IL ...... I moved to KY to get away from that crap! Merry Christmas everybody. May you all have a joyous and safe holiday, make new memories and cherish old ones.

    Interesting

Ok. At least I know I'm not going crazy.
  16. I just read the opening post in this thread and none of the rest. I would say that, year in and year out, Duke basketball gets more media respect than any other program in the nation. I'm sorry, but you've got nothing to b**** about.
  17. I was thrilled to read that as well. The guy has some "real incentive" to perform.
  18. Actually ... I was setting up the "ex-Cuba factor" joke. But, when it comes to Contreras, he's still got to show me something before I consider him any other than our worst starter.
  19. As I stated earlier, Jugger, I agree with you on Zaun and Cairo. But that quote above is exactly the reason why Eck would make a good fit for the Sox. He'd bring a lot skills to the team that is sorely lacking. Hitting 2nd, playing 2nd ... he'd be an asset.

If definitely was not the Rolaids award.

I forget the method that was used, sinced it has been awhile, but one publication calculated Foulke as the 2nd best AL closer (to Rivera) after the 2002 season. If anyone remembers what this was and can retreive it, I'd be greatly appreciative.
