  1. If we keep Lee and Konerko, Everett and Gload have no shot at competing for LF. You are overlooking Aaron Rowand here. He's full fledged major leaguer now.
  2. With Cabrera playing so many games on the turf in Montreal, that would effect his RF as so many balls get through the infield quicker. Just throwing another variable into the equation.
  3. Schoney did a good job while he was healthy. His year didn't hit the skids until he kept trying to pitch with a sore arm. I wouldn't mind seeing Scott back with us as a long man, spot starter. He'd supply some depth for the rotation if someone got injured.
  4. No one was calling anyone simple. It was the point of view that was expressed by the question "Are we better off with or without him?" That approach, or way of looking at things is "simple". In fact, it's way over simplified. Yossarian, you make some valid points in your arguements. I happen to think this is a case of us not having the complete story and for someone to bash either KW or Magglio at this point is an irrelevent point.
  5. I'm approaching this offseason with a certain amount of trepidation. This will be a make or break offseason for the Sox. If they make several moves that fall flat, then we will have lost the core of a solid team and would have one that lands solidly in 4th place. However, this core has failed to win so it is time to attempt to rework things. I think the real key to the success or failure of the offseason will all come down to just how much JR opens the wallet.
  6. He's only a worthless piece of s*** in RF. He's decent in left and very good at first.
  7. The only one of the 5 that has proven he is capable of being an every player in the majors is Rowand .... and, on second, I'll give you Uribe though that's argueable. Gload is somewhat less than a 50/50 chance in my opinion. Burke is a solid backup and that's his ceiling. Valdez? Don't even go there yet.
  8. As would I. By the way, did anybody see that tremendous catch made by Jeremy Reed last night? WOW!!!!!!!
  9. Happy Birthday, oh doable one!
  10. The Rangers have impressed me all year. Showalter has gotten the most out of them. Their pitching staff has been held together with duct tape and baling wire all year, yet they are still right there.
  11. I know that. It was just an opportunity to point out that the guy's had a helluva year.
  12. South, in all likelihood.
  13. Good point. And if KW would have traded Olivo and Crede, then the season went south like it did, that would have all been KW's fault for doing something so incredibly stupid as trading 2 everyday players for a guy that pitches every 5th day.
  14. Yes, he has. And he's just about due to fully recover from that. Grilli could turn into one of those that you luck into. He's got the natural ability.
  15. Jim nailed it right on the head. Especially the reference to "knee-jerk reactionaries". Most people were stunned that Olivo went in deal, but he's been hitting at a Davis-like clip, so the focus turns to Reed with two good weeks under his belt. Twenty-one games ago, there were a lot of people singing the praises of this trade because Davis started out so well for the Sox. Now that he has gone back to being Ben Davis, and Garcia has struggled some, though he pittch a couple of his poorer starts with that muscle injury, the trade is now being ripped. I, for one, still like this trade and go on record here saying so.
  16. I can't believe no one has tossed this name out there ........ Ross Gload.
  17. I can see the Sox doing precisely what the article states. Beltran does fill a lot of things the Sox need ... lefty (switch) power, speed, defense ..... Lee could be used to acquire a couple of the decent ballplayers we'd need to overall strengthen the team.
  18. Sure we would. As long as #30 doesn't spend the whole year on the DL, or playing with half the speed and half the aggresiveness he had before or if the bad knee affects his swing to where he can't drive the ball anymore or ....... Then again, what player(s) would we be able to acquire if #30 wasn't on the team? Could $2M of the "Maggs money" make the difference in wheteher we sign Pavano or Beltran or whoever? It's not that simple saying "Would we better with or without him?".
  19. Here I was, flipping a coin, trying to decide whether I liked Hawk or Poppy better.
  20. That's part of the problem. The play wasn't executed and an out was wasted. Even if the play does work, you are giving up an out.
  21. The link to the Daily Southtown article
  22. Ya. Bush has a lot of nerve timing that hurricane so close to the election. :rolly Hell. The bastards did the same thimg before the 2002 congressional elections! Give me a break.
