  1. Why do you feel you are the last word in evaluting talent. All I'm saying is that the guy deserves a shot. I'm advocating making him our "ace".

    Rowand

I'm not one that believes in backing into it. Put him out there, let him take his shot and make it happen. He's close and with a little luck he can get there. Either way though, he's really had a very nice year. Good to see it too. He's worked his ass off and had some unlucky breaks along the way.

    Rowand

I'd play him. Let him take his shot at getting back into the top ten in batting average.
  4. I'd love to see Valentin back as a super utility guy. I wouldn't same to him and Uribe switch roles for next year. But, if he goes elsewhere ... Thanks for 5 generally good years, Jose.
  5. He's got to have some ability to have been drafted that high. He'll be healthy next spring. If he can't throw strikes, we'll cut him loose. But he's got enough arm that you have to give him a look in ST. He'll have to earn it, but we should give him a shot. You'd hate to cut him loose then he succeed elsewhere while you have a hole in your rotation. Look at Texas this year. They were begging for starters. Who did they release in ST? Glendon Rusch. They would have won that division if they had kept him.
  6. Diaz's role next season should be, and will be, determined by his performance in spring training. He should be in mix of guys competing for a spot in the rotation or to just make the staff. If he outpitches everyone else, he should be in the rotation. If he sucks, he should be in Charlotte. I don't see the point of this poll.
  7. Off course, the original guy that made the #56 famous was ....... Joe Dimaggio.
  8. He had his surgery two years ago. It takes that long to fully recover from Tommy John surgery. I give him the benefit of the doubt for now. Let's see what Grilli looks like next year.
  9. Home weekend mid-summer series against Boston and New York. That should help attendance.
  10. I was reading mariotti's column today and nearly dropped my still firmly attached teeth. Here's the quote: We actually have a Cub loving Chicago media person admitting the the media tend to take it easy on the Cubs. Seems expectations effects more than fans and ballplayers.
  11. Could be. I just through it out there as a possibility.

    It wasn't my list.
  13. Wood gave 2 run homers to number 8 hitter and the pitcher. After admitting he chocked in the NLCS last year, he shows us how consistant he can be. Man ... you can't let those type of hitters beat you in a clutch game. Unbelievable. Yet, it's so totally Cublike. Here's to the 3rd place Chicago Cubs. :finger
  14. Bingo. I was scrolling this topic hoping no one would mention that. But since you did ... That was the first Chicago championship that I was old enough to remember. '61 Hawks and '63 (?) Bears were a bit before my time, though I do recall Sox teams from that era.
  15. What makes this all the more amazing is that the guys worrying about all the crap are veterans (Alou, Remlinger and as always, Sosa). Sosa didn't get too involved in the broadcaster fiasco, but all his crap about being booed and not hitting down in the lineup were also similar. These guys are the type you count on to nip all this s***, not start it.
  16. What a job by Phil Garner. It took him about 2 weeks to get them going and once he did they never let up. Scrap Iron!
  17. That was a ridiculously stupid thing for MLB to do in 1961. A season is a season is a season.

I was noticing that Uribe's OBP was lower than Harris's, That kind of shocked me. But I'm happy with Uribe as one of our keystone combo in '05. Garland didn't quite get that complete game. 8.1 innings I believe. Funny thing though, Grilli pitched 8 innings but it was a complete game. That was his 4-2 loss to the Tigers.

Yes. There were plenty of people wanting to just give Konerko to whoever would take him.
  20. You can't move the fences during the season.
  21. Vizquel failed a physical, iirc.
  22. Correction. That was before you knew he was good.

    Joey Cora

I think NY fans would rip Cora to shreds. He has no NY history. His diminutive stature and lack of a big name would all work against him.
  24. I know this much. He was the jewel of the Mets farm system and went to the Tribe in the Robbie Alomar deal. He was injured most of 2004 and Cleveland relaesed him or waived him. Either way, they exposed him and we grabbed him.
