Yes. He f***ed up a couple of times. No doubt about that. If you remember, Ozzie took him the woodshed because of it too. Unless he does it again, that should be the end of it. He shouldn't unfairly get tagged with "clubhouse cancer" just yet.
If they pointed to Garland as the clubhouse cancer, they had to search for one. Unlike on the northside where their multimillion dollar superstar CAPTAIN bailed on the team after whining and crying all year about the fans being hard on him. Calling Garland and Sosa cancers is a fair comparison. Right!!!!
All things go in cycles. The Cubs won't outdraw the Sox forever. In fact, I think the Wrigley mystique is beginning to crack as much as the Wrigley overhangs are. The utter choke job by the Cubs the last two years have turned the tide of being accepted as lovable losers. If the Cubs ever finish below .500 the "faithful" will bail out faster than rats from a sinking ship.
I believe Anahiem's current plan for Eckstien is to try and acquire Nomar and move Eckstien to 2B. Kennedy will probably be out for the first few months of next season.
As I was reading through this thread, the possibility of Valentin in a Twins uniform popped into my head as well. I can see that happening and Jose just simply KILLING the White Sox.
I'd sure like to see Black Jack get into some of these pitchers' heads. Garland is the first one that comes to mind that could use some of McDowell's philosophy.
Regardless of who is a Dem and who is a Rep, this is a non-issue and should not be brought into the fray. Ri-f***ing-diculous. A streaking gag is a lot less serious than testifying before congress that your brothers in arms are all war criminals.
Lowe. A project in USCF. Would he rebound or not?
Radke. Not a ground ball pitcher. Too many HR at USCF?
Ortiz. Too many walks and too many HR's. Deadly combo for us at the Cell.
Perez. Question mark away from Chavez.
Martinez. Ability to stay healthy? Lack of IP strain on BP?
Clement. Has he hit his peak and going to revert back to the inconsistant pitcher he has been?
Pavano. Could he still be productive coming to AL? '04 simlar to Loaiza's '03?
Lieber. Health and availability questions.
None of these guys are a sure thing and all have questions marks. Pick your poison, gentlemen.
I could see the Braves being interested in either Konerko or Lee. But Furcal should be the main piece of a package to acquire either of them. I see no reason to even bring up Garland's name unless they are talking about Estrada or Jones or whatever.
Exactly, Rex. Omar would be just a small piece to the puzzle. In fact, he would be a fill in or stop gap as was mentioned earlier. But the right stop gap can make the difference between October baseball or October golf.
Back to original post of this thread, that's someone trying to put a positive twist on things where none exist. Hmmmm ... maybe he should run for president.
