Contreras vs. Jon
Who's making a judgement. I'm just saying he's a massive question mark and having Garland around would take some of the sting out if Contrares is a bust.

Burke yes; Ben no
I just hope someone teaches Burke how to catch a throw from a position other than the pitcher, followed by a tag. Otherwise, I agree.

Ok, whatever. I'm done. But kudos for the Bell-Sosa trade remark.

Contreras vs. Jon
I don't rule that out as a possibility. He scares me, though. I'd feel much better having Garland as our number 5 if Contrares is number 3 or 4.

That would mildly shock me. It's possible, but KW was fairly high on SS.

When Scott was healthy, he didn't "suck". As the roster stands, he should be in the competition for the %th starter spot. If we sign another starter, let him, Garland, Diaz and Grilli battle it out.

Burke yes; Ben no
Really. People throw that switching leagues issue around all the time. Players switch leagues all the time. I don't understand why that should ever be brought into the equation, unless a player states it's part of the equation.

Bending the truth
There was video of the first crash broadcast shortly after it happened. Maybe that's what he say before walking into the classroom.

Carolina League Top 20
DAMN! KW sure has raped the Sox farm system!

Remember those words. I've seen the same sentiments directed at Carlos Lee after 2002 .... and Paul Konerko and Aaron Rowand after 2003.

what could have been
So ... when it comes down to it, we traded Olivo, Reed and Morse for one piss poor season of Jose Valentin. Ain't life a b****?

going to the ball park
I couldn't make it Chicago this year, but I did get to one Sox/Rangers game in Arlington. It would have been 2, but the other game looked like it was going to be a rainout early this month (again in TX). Turned out to be a beautiful day, but it unexpectedly cleared off too late for me to get there. So, on the season, I'm 1-0.

For the money, I'd rather just keep Maggs.

Which FA SP Should the Sox Target
Of those 7 pitchers, the one that I believe would give you more bang for your buck is .... Jon Leiber. He will be a full two years from that surgery when the season starts and will be back to the pitcher he was. It's a gamble, but it should be a low risk, high reward type of gamble. Perez, however, would nicely fit into our rotation.

Griffey's big bucks just doesn't fit with the Sox. As good as he is when healthy, he is cost prohibitive.

The Most Underrated Player in Baseball
You need to take your head out of your rear end and look around. You might see that Carlos Lee is a damn good ballplayer. Those posts are nothing but inflammatory bulls***. But, that's my opinion.

Gotta hate when someone calls a decimal point a period.

Wasn't that Lawrence Taylor?

It doesn't matter if you said it in this thread or elsewhere on the board. You said it, and it's fair game. You just rehashed everything you had previously argued, yet you failed to address the whole point of my post. It's too early to judge this deal.

Paulie is a stud
Trading Frank doesn't make sense. For precisely the reasons you mentioned, the return from a Thomas deal would be small compared to what we get for PK or Lee, yet the production we get if we keep him could be huge. With Gload waiting in the wings and PK coming of his best season and taking into consideration his road splits, trading him this offseason is the big move that makes most sense to me. Carlos fits the bill to what the Sox are trying to accomplish. In fact, his approach during his hitting streak shows he can be a high OBP guy if that's what the Sox need, or as he showed after Magglio and Frank went down, he can adjust and be a power guy. That kind of versatility is hard to find.

Which team?
To which team is the following snippet from a column refering? Well, it's not the Sox. It's that team on the north side. This was in Paul Ledewski's column in the Daily Southtown. There are few more interesting opinions expressed in this column. Even though it's about the Cubs, the are a few Sox references. Enjoy. EDIT: Could someone please change the thread title to the grammatically correct "Which team?" Thanks.

I can't help but recalling some Pali/Isreali type debates that occured a while back. I wonder why those came back to me now.

3rd straight complete game
Also to provide depth. I think a bullpen of Schoenweis, Grilli, Politte, Cotts, Adkins, Marte and Takatsu would be pretty solid if all were healthy with Schoenweis and Grilli providing depth for the rotation.
