  1. No. The way he pitched last year was wrong!
  2. Hell. There were people calling for the Sox to dump Crede during the 1st half last year. It takes time to learn how to be a major league ballplayer for most guys. Especially pitchers. There are exceptions, but they are rare.

Piazza worked out well for him at the beginning of his stay in NY. He's getting old now. Which is why I hope the Sox never sign anyone to a 7 or 8 year deal. Way too risky. (thinking that Vlad is asking for 7 years and 105 Mill)

No, actually, I got my threads mixed up. My bad.
  5. You've got to give your young players a chance to prove themselves. Nobody on this board wants to give anyone with 5 years of all-star seasons a shot.

Why? Did he forget how to pitch? The point is, when you sign someone with a proven track record, that doesn't gaurentee you anything. Or ... was that another thread. *shrug*
  7. Like in 2000? Like the 2003 Florida Marlins? Hmmmm ... not a bad idea.
  8. I believe that they are trying to put a team on the field this year that won't be QUITE so terrible. They'll still be able to build the team for the long run around what they've done this year.
  9. I think it would be a major mistake to just give PK away without getting some value for him. The dude had a bad year. It happens. No way is he washed up, or done.

Who was also signed as an over the hill veteran free agent.
  11. The Sox are $4million over budget, by all accounts. So, if they trade Konerko and his $8million salary for Washburn and his $4million salary, that puts them back on budget. Hence, no money available for Ponson.
  12. He didn't need to rededicate himself to collect that paycheck.
  13. I recall that very fondly. I have a Gray Peters story for you. He was with Boston when Fisk came up, an old veteran at that point. One game Peters was getting shelled or had given up a monster shot, or both. Fisk came out to mound and Peters looked at the rookie catcher and said "What the f*** do you want." Pudge just turned around and back behind the plate. I don't remember where I heard this story, but Pudge was telling it. I remember distinctly because they are two of my favorite players ever. Though, their Sox were the wrong color at the time.
  14. Ok, so we are going to trade PK, an all-star in 2002 for a pitcher that won 18 games in 2002. Yet, even though PK had a terrible year everyone one is talking like Washburn is a sure bet to win 15-18 games next year. He was 10-15 last last year. Garland was better than that.
  15. Here's the link: Leon Wagner If this has been posted, I apologize. I haven't seen it posted yet.
  16. Way to go, Jason. You just burst everyone's balloon!
  17. I don't know what the plan is right now, but here's the way it should be: If Uribe and Valentin battle for the SS spot in ST. The loser of that battle, competes with Harris for starting 2B. Harris and/or Jose battle Rowand, Reed, Borchard and whoever for CF. In each, the best man wins and the team is better. I don't want Ozzie to have any preconceived ideas about this until he sees who can do what.
  18. Since all these firstbasemen are being plucked of the market, if we trade PK who's gonna play 1B for us? And I don't see it being Big Frank.
  19. Harris or Uribe will be the backup 2B. Valentin can be a backup 3B but I can see why KW wants one. Hmmmmm. Too bad they didn't listen to us earlier and sign Ventura. There's the LH bat off the bench too.
  20. From the Sun-Times: So much for that quality starter we were going to sign.
  21. Absolutely correct. Trammel, Gibson and Parrish will put the roar back in the Tigers. I do believe that.
  22. If we could do this after trading Maggs for Nomar, why can't we add Ponson now? This doesn't jive, at all.
