QUOTE (zenryan @ Oct 17, 2009 -> 09:53 PM) SEC really protected Florida today. Arkansas shouldve won but Florida escapes. Florida's offense is bad and I wouldnt be surprised if Mississippi St keeps it close next week since the MSU HC is the former Florida OC. Florida loses at South Carolina and to Alabama this year. The SEC is going to do EVERYTHING it can to help Alabama and Florida, they want to make sure the winner of that SEC Title game plays for the National Title, that's just how it works unfortunately. Also, I am going to be nicer to Iowa. Yes, I still am not very impressed by them and baffled by their record, but they are much more impressive than say, the Texas Longhorns. I couldn't possibly be less impressed with those characters, and I'd vote Iowa AND Cincinnati ahead of them if I had a rankings vote (which I don't). And thank you USC, I won't have to hear about Notre Dame anymore now. Regardless of how you feel about ND, they have been outright lucky all season, and the luck finally ran out today. Clausen is very good though when he has time to throw, Weis is going to be pretty pissed when he leaves for the NFL after this season. Lastly, Ohio State/Purdue is another example of how bad the Big 10 is and I have no idea how the heck that pile of crap beat the Buckeyes. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 17, 2009 -> 06:42 PM) That said, I expect that we'll deal Urlacher for something in the off-season and pick-up a pick. There is very little chance this is going to happen. You don't trade a guy at lowest value, and Urlacher has none right now. If he comes back and has a nice season in 2010, that's when you trade him, after that season. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 18, 2009 -> 12:25 AM) Especially since the Yankees are flat out better than the Angels and are the best team in baseball this year. Good luck winning 4 of 5 having to face CC two more times, Petitte twice, and Burnett one more time with the Yankees having just a monster of a bullpen right now. It is basically a six inning game because if you are down going into the 7th you are screwed with Joba, Hughes, and Rivera coming up. Yankees are the best team by a wide margin. I think the only team that could really hang with them is the Phillies, and even they would have major issues since their bullpen is trash. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 16, 2009 -> 11:09 AM) .....that fade in August and September I don't buy that, except for this year. It's hard to win many games with no pitching. Do you think Greg Walker is a better hitting coach than Rudy Jaramillo?

As dumb a play as I've ever seen, there is NO excuse throwing the ball to 2nd base there. Angels are going to need a miracle to win this series now, they'll have to win 4 out of 5 (or 4 in a row) against the Yankees and also have to clinch the series at Yankee Stadium. I don't think either of those is realistic. -

I get the trade because Adams is a great talent. But it is a risk as a 2nd rounder is a steep price (and now the Bears don't have a 1st or 2nd rounder in the 2010 draft IIRC) as Adams was traded for a reason. And with that in mind, DE isn't really a need right now, although it obviously could be in 2010 when Adewale leaves. I wonder if another move is coming. -

QUOTE (RibbieRubarb @ Oct 16, 2009 -> 09:45 PM) Joe Buck just said that Nick Swisher is getting his "first taste of playoff baseball this year with the Yankees". Does Joe only count the games he broadcasts as official games? I'm pretty sure Nick was in the playoffs in 2006 with Oakland and last year with us...but what do I know. He played in the ALDS and ALCS in 2006 with Oakland, you are correct sir. And last year in the ALDS with us of course. -

QUOTE (danman31 @ Oct 16, 2009 -> 04:19 PM) I think Cincy would handle themselves. Once everyone loses a game (because that always happens) it won't be a discussion, but if Cincy is the only undefeated it would be absurd to keep them out of the title game. Cincinnati is also helped by the fact that the Big East looks a little better than usual. There have certainly been years where the Mountain West was as good or better than the Big East in football, and thus in theory, TCU would have a title game argument if they went perfect and Cincinnati had that same argument while also not losing. This isn't really one of those years though. -

QUOTE (danman31 @ Oct 16, 2009 -> 02:29 PM) Before Pike's first half injury, I was really impressed with Cincy. If Pike can get back to 100% I wouldn't be surprised to see them win a BCS game by a bigger than expected margin. Do you think they'd have any chance against an Alabama or Florida? Because the argument with Cincy isn't if they are BCS quality like it is with Boise State because I think everybody agrees that Cincinnati is BCS quality if they take care of business on the field. The argument with them is do they deserve a shot at the title game if they go undefeated. -
"My New Haircut 2" is now on youtube, making fun of the stereotype dbag guido the same way the first version did.

ss2k5, That's interesting info you have about the money it saves them when Skille isn't on the roster and how he's the only Hawk they can send down without going through waivers. I believe you, but just out of curiousity, have a link to where you read that? -
Interesting to see a hitting coach *gasp* actually be held accountable when his team doesn't hit! It's too bad he'll end up with the Cubs and not with the Sox. Even despite his teams struggles this year, Jaramillo has a long record of very good hitting teams, and is respected around baseball as being really good at what he does. Neither of those thoughts could be put in the same paragraph as Greg Walker, who would have been fired years ago if we had the same standard for a hitting coach that they do in Texas. Just because there is no tangible or proven way to evaluate a hitting coach and how important/not important he is doesn't mean he shouldn't be fired if the hitting goes south, although I'm not even sure I'd have fired Jaramillo since he's had such a long record of excellence there before this year.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 16, 2009 -> 10:00 AM) He hasn't even racked up a 100 yards per game after the 1st week. I'm not disputing that he's the best RB in the NFL. I'd take him in a heartbeat over anyone else. But after 5 games going up against some awful teams I would have expected much better numbers. And I thought teams leaned more towards the run once they were up big? You're telling me he was benched at halftime in these 5 games? Peterson is averaging 4.9 yards a carry, 96.2 yards a game, and has 7 rushing touchdowns. He's had no dropoff in play (he's actually slightly above his yards per carry pace last year and well above his touchdown pace), he's just getting the ball less since they have Favre, which is probably a good thing for self-preservation purposes. The only poor game he's had was the Green Bay game, and Green Bay had literally 9 men in the box at times during that game, which is why Favre ended up with a 135.3 rating for the night. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 16, 2009 -> 10:26 AM) Cincy is lucky South Fla is down a bit with their RSF at QB. Cincy simply doesnt play D and they will have some issues if they face one of the teams above them, all of which have good defensive squads. I would think South Florida or Pittsburgh will get them. I just REALLY hope they don't go undefeated and somehow make the title game. They'd get run off the field in the first half and ruin the fun of a potentially competitive/good title game. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 16, 2009 -> 09:06 AM) I don't blame the media for taking the story, at all - media is a business, and people are fascinated with s*** like this. For so many obvious reasons. This is actually an example of the media being smart. Family all tells the same story - we are fairly sure the kid is in there. So, the cops and media do what they both had to do - follow the balloon. The cops should have ALSO searched the house, sounds like they did, just not well enough. The people to blame here are the goofy ass family. Well if people are fascinating with s*** like this, then it just shows how stupid people are. I'm glad I wasn't home as this story played out, because what a pile of garbage it is. I hope that family gets in some sort of trouble for perpetuating such a stunt, especially since it worked exactly as they hoped it would and people were dumb enough to buy such a story.

This might be the ultimate example of just how stupid the American media is. Talk about falling for a blatant hoax.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 13, 2009 -> 04:09 PM) I don't need to read the article to know it's stupid. Humans get paid and know the risks. Dogs get trained and beaten to be vicious and kill each other. Any comparison is stupid. /thread Humans don't get paid until the NFL, and there are a lot of kids out there (I know a few) who played football like it was their life, played through concussions and other injuries, and things of that nature growing up just hoping to get a scholarship to play in college since it was their only way to ever afford it. Football and dogfighting aren't comparable since yes, football is a choice. But they are comparable in that their participants suffer serious consequences (obviously more serioius for the dogs since many die, but football players end up really messed up).

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 13, 2009 -> 09:24 PM) Really, we've already decided the Bears can't beat Minnesota? The Vikings won't lose any other games randomly? The Bears and Vikings so far are giving up an almost identical number of yards per game and are actually very close in points scored per game on offense. The only thing the Vikings are doing much better than the bears is Yards/game. The Vikings have a much better offensive line, running back, and defense than the Bears, while having comparable WR's/TE's and only a moderately worse quarterback. The Bears are better on special teams, but I can't see how anybody can look at the Bears and Vikings without superfan glasses on and come to any conclusion other than the Vikings are going to win the divison. I'm hopeful that I am wrong on this and that this quote will end up on somebody's signature in January, but I doubt it. And lol, thanks for putting words in my mouth whitesoxbrian. Because yeah, me saying the Vikings are better than the Bears means they are the '72 Dolphins. Right. -

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Oct 13, 2009 -> 06:55 PM) Eh, it's debatable. Look at Arizona last year. They got hot at the right time and blasted their way to the Super Bowl which they almost won. A TO type move in which the West Coast offense which he is most familiar with, can really benefit Jay even greater. The Bears would have to win 3 road games to get to Miami though, because the odds of them winning the division over Minnesota are very, very low, even if TO is brought in. TO would help Cutler, but he wouldn't fix the offensive line or secondary/defense in general issues. I wouldn't make the move since I think the Bears are a wild card team with TO and a wild card team without him, and I don't think you bring in a guy like that unless he makes you noticeably better. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 13, 2009 -> 05:35 PM) And this is why this year is different. Could this possibly be explained by everybody freaking out at the first sign of a cough because of what the media has told them? (That's a serious question btw, not me being a smartass).

QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Oct 13, 2009 -> 01:42 AM) Although I dunno if they really will be a package deal, I definitely can't see Shaw or Blackshear staying local... And I'm definitely jealous of the players illinois is getting. Can't wait for hoops season. I'll be out to see Shaw and one of the '13 studs, Alex Foster, at De La Salle at least a couple of times. Although he transferred, I really like Dre Henley's game... You guys could get some 2nd or even 3rd tier Illinois HS guys in 2011 and still have a good recruiting class. That class is so loaded. -

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Oct 13, 2009 -> 06:40 PM) TO was not the reason why the Eagles lost. He put on one of the greatest performances in Super Bowl history for a wideout, especially in his condition. He'd help the Bears tremendously. Does he drop some balls? Yes, but at the same time, his positives on the field definitely outweight the negatives on the field. He would do the Bears wonders. The one problem I have with a TO move is it's a move you make if you think you can win the Super Bowl right now, and I don't think that can be said about the Bears, even if TO is on the roster. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 13, 2009 -> 04:32 PM) From espn.com. Has been pulled since. Ahh and the Wings secret to success all these years finally comes out. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 13, 2009 -> 09:10 AM) I must say, Brian Campbell's head has been pulled out of his ass for the most part thus far. I have thought the same thing, but posting that in these parts might be looked upon as only a small step about satanic worship, so I kept quiet. Glad I'm not the only one who has noticed that though. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 13, 2009 -> 04:42 PM) Im talking about success possibility. I dont think much of Clausen at all. Neither do I, he's basically just throwing jump balls up to great receivers. Not that there is anything wrong with that, he's been probably the best QB in the country this year (or certainly top 3) if you look at the numbers, but that doesn't really translate to the NFL. I also agree with the person who said the Pennington injury is a blessing in disguise for the Dolphins, and lastly, I lol @ the NFL players who are protesting the Limbaugh stuff. Do you really think there is a player in the NFL who would say no to a paycheck because of who the owner is? Or take less money to go to a team other than the Rams in free agency because of Rush? Because I don't, and regardless of how offensive some people might find him, that's what matters. -
Everybody knew this was coming, which was the main reason I didn't understand the Nobel Prize deal (even though it didn't upset me greatly like it did so many people). I'm not sure what the right answer in Afghanistan is, and honestly, I'm not even sure if the people in power know what the answer is there.
