  1. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Oct 10, 2009 -> 01:54 AM) The thing that gets me is it's in the playoffs. That means there's more umps on the field. A call like that makes it better off just keeping it the way it is during the season if that's the case. Not saying I want that, and I know Baseball still wants to keep the game as regular (America's pastime) as possible, but it draws a fine line here. It's the only sport that doesn't have it basically, and I still wouldn't like it personally as I grew up and played this fine game as it is, but changes always happens. I grew up without it too, but our only option other than extended replay is incidents like tonight where people get screwed, because as long as there are humans umpiring the games, there are going to be missed calls (probably not as bad as the one tonight, but missed calls regardless).
  2. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Oct 10, 2009 -> 12:44 AM) 101 was right about the Twins still blowing every chance they had.. but you better believe this will receive media attention tomorrow. ------------------->It wasn't even close Oh there is no doubt that is one of the worst calls in baseball history by an umpire. The one hope I have is this, combined with some other missed calls (the umps had some issues in game 1 of Boston/Angels as well) might lead to a more comprehensive version of instant replay in 2010. At this point, I don't care how long it takes to get calls right as long as they indeed are right. Give the managers one challenge a game, and if they get it right, they get a second one. Why can't baseball join the 21st century?
  3. QUOTE (Friend of Nordhagen @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 11:55 PM) And where the Twins are concerned, complaints about a ballpark seem misplaced. That's a good point. Also, in my pointing out all the reasons why the Twins have nobody to blame but themselves, I forgot the Gomez play in (I think) the 4th inning. What appeared to be an RBI single was hit to RF, but Gomez fell down and was tagged out before the run scored, which kept it scoreless. Another inexcuseable mistake by the Twins, and they had a lot more of those tonight than the umpires did.
  4. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 04:08 PM) Its their award, they can give it to whoever the hell they want. Why do people care? It doesnt change anything, its a damn award that is entirely meaningless. Its like arguing about the Oscars, Heisman, MVP or any other award voted by people. They set the criteria, they got to vote and in the end their vote matters and our opinion doesnt. No way should Obama give it back, he won fair and square. You and I have our disagreements, but I could not agree anymore with this post.
  5. QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 11:04 PM) Liner misplayed by Ellsbury plates 2 more for Anaheim. Is it just me or does Jacoby make a lot of "Edmonds" like diving plays. He had one yesterday. He definitely has the Edmonds dive down, but I disagree with your assesment of the 2 run triple, because I don't think there is anyway he could have caught that. Hopefully, the Angels hold on. The Red Sox and Twins both being one loss away from out would be nice.
  6. QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 10:34 PM) He'd want 2 or 3 years at 3 to 5 mil per probably. I hope he enjoys his time in a new city if those are his demands.
  7. If Scott is patient, somebody will lose a guy they want, panic, and offer him two years. I'm just hoping we're not that team.
  8. America may not be better than everybody else in general like some in this country think we are, but we sure are when it comes to sports. That video is LOL times infinity.
  9. If it's a 1 year deal and doesn't preclude us from continuing to look for better options, I'm all for it. If it's a deal longer than 1 year and/or means will won't look for more help at the 2nd COF spot, i'm not all for it.
  10. QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 09:54 PM) That was a pretty cheap HR by Teixeira there. Of course, that's about the same a left field in Baltimore. Next to a wall scraper inside Pesky Pole in Boston, that's the cheapest HR in baseball you can hit (the Texiera one I mean). That was just a ringing double that the dimensions caused to masquerade as a walk off home run.
  11. QUOTE (daa84 @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 09:49 PM) i understand differing dimensions and whatnot in stadiums...but im pretty sure when baseball was invented, hits like teixeira's weren't supposed to be HRs....seriously my high school field was bigger down the line than the new yankee stadium over the last few years ive come to tolerate the yankees and hate the red sox more...but this yankee team is VERY dislikable...i suppose because of all the $$$ spent on their key players...i thought at first i was rooting for them to beat the twins, but tonight angered me......go angels and every NL team I can totally understand people hating the Yankees for their payroll, but they aren't breaking any rules. The anger should be at baseball (mainly the players union) for not allowing a salary cap to be implemented and level the playing field.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 09:36 PM) TBS is scoring some pretty good ratings for the first couple games. up 15% over last year. Function of NYY, Boston, and both LA teams in there? I'd bet that's a big part of it, but keep in mind they are taking a hit with the Cubs not being in there, and I'd bet the Twins draw less ratings than the White Sox, so I don't think that's the entire reason for the jump.
  13. QUOTE (rangercal @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 09:41 PM) That was right in front of him. Even orlando Cabrera seen it was close to a foot inside from the dugout! Worst call I have seen in my lifetime as a baseball fan. Worst. Not even close. And I hate the twins! I am assuming Cabrera went in the tunnel and looked at a replay, but you probably could see that was a blown call from the dugout. I won't even argue with you that it was the worst call you have seen in your lifetime as a baseball fan, because it probably was (and if it wasn't, it's top 2 or 3). But that's not why the Twins lost, and I hope people can seperate the bad call from the reasons they lost.
  14. QUOTE (rangercal @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 09:37 PM) That ump even looked like a Yankee fan. If I ever had a small suspicion a play was rigged in sports, this would be it. Rigged? It was just a terrible, terrible call. And if they were rigging it, they did a lousy job since the Twins had a 9th inning lead before blowing it, and then had the bases loaded 0 outs in extra innings and had to blow that too.
  15. Wow, that was the ultimate Yankee Stadium home run. About 315 feet, but it counts just the same and the Yankees win, effectively ending this series.
  16. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 09:21 PM) White Sox ball. 3 singles, bases loaded, 0 out. And now it's REALLY White Sox ball, bases loaded, 0 out, 3 singles, 0 runs. And I'm sure people will say "OMG YANKEES CONSPIRACY!!!!111" and "the ump lost it for the Twins" and all that if the Yankees win, and yes that was one of the worst calls in the history of umpiring/officiating/etc. But Mauer still got on base, the Twins still had the bases loaded 0 out, and they still blew it (and you can't assume the next two batters get on base and the exact same things happen if Mauer's double is properly called). So for once, I will be the anti-conspiracy guy here and say the Twins just blew it there.
  17. White Sox ball. 3 singles, bases loaded, 0 out.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 09:17 PM) What call did they blow? Fair/foul call down the line. Ball was literally fair by probably 6 inches and was called foul, ump was standing right there too. 1st and 2nd nobody outs now though, so if they don't score they will have a hard time blaming the umps, but that was still an all time bad call.
  19. So one of the worst baserunning plays you'll ever see followed by one of the worst umpiring calls you will ever see. Only cost them one base though, but that's still bad.
  20. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 09:03 PM) Well there is an "And by valuable, you mean sucked the least?" option. That's what I went with.
  21. That's about as bad a baserunning play as you will come across.
  22. I can't vote for anybody, because I don't think we had a single player that belongs in the same paragraph as "Team MVP" this season. The fact that Pods leads this poll by a wide margin and I can't really argue with it makes me very sad.
  23. QUOTE (Cali @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 08:36 PM) Nathan dominates the Sox looking cool calm and collective and looks like a huge p**** vs. the Yankees He was lucky in the one game playoff to get out of the jam he was in too, that double play that ended the 9th inning was hit very hard.
  24. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 08:32 PM) I have a feeling A-Rod is going to make himself a New York legend this postseason. Same (although anybody reading my comments in this thread already realizes I feel that way).
  25. That will go a long way in lifting the choker label.
