Game Thread: CWS @ SEA, 5:40pm CT

QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Sep 17, 2009 -> 08:10 PM) Is Bobby already washed up? Yeah he is done. His value is down now, but we HAVE to trade him this winter while he at least has a little value left. -
There aren't too many things dumber than bunting frequently in the AL. You only get 27 outs in a game, and since we don't let the pitcher bat, none of them are free. Use them wisely and cherish them.

QUOTE (rangercal @ Sep 17, 2009 -> 10:11 AM) Not sure why Bowman did not start the first game. I'm not sure why Vasher wasn't outright cut this summer, even with the general and depth issues the Bears have at defensive back. He is just a useless player right now. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Sep 17, 2009 -> 10:17 AM) What's the feeling of Bears' fans coming into this one with the Steelers? Is it almost getting to that "must win" stage (although it's way early in the season)? You certainly don't want to be down 2 games against Minny for instance when you haven't played them yet. I can't speak for others, but my feeling is that in a little over two weeks, the Bears are going to be 0-3 and toast. -
Would I trade for Fielder? Yes. Would I give up what Milwaukee would want from us for him? Probably not.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 15, 2009 -> 03:45 PM) Agreed Yeah I never thought I'd find a significant issue in which I'm well to the left of even Barack Obama, but here it is. I'm really surprised he's taking the position he is on the Patriot Act too, maybe he's afraid of the long standing stigma that Democrats are weak on National Security and wants to take away a potential firing angle from his opposition.
-
It's perhaps one of my more liberal positions, but I want the entire Patriot Act gone.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 15, 2009 -> 03:31 PM) MNF Game 1 Regular broadcasters: Good MNF Game 2 Mike & Mike: f***ing awful ...and when Jaws disagreed with Gruden on what the other coach was going to do, Jaws was right 90% of the time. I can't stand the lesbian look alike Jaws, and Tirico takes himself way too seriously, so as far as i'm concerned, both crews suck. -
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090915/ap_on_.../us_patriot_act I didn't give this it's own thread because I think Obama has been pretty consistent that this was his position. Doesn't change the fact that I'm disappointed by it, though.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 14, 2009 -> 10:45 PM) Does replay actually make things better any more? It makes them better, but it doesn't make them perfect. For some reason, it just seems like we are going to have to deal with an occasional replay ruling that makes no sense as long as humans are looking at the replays. -

QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 05:09 PM) Yeah I know there's no love lost with Krause. Looking back at it, assuming the Bulls team was intact, it would've been great to see a possible Bulls vs Lakers in circa 2000. But he also could've had a shot at 2 more rings had he not retired the first of 3 times. Although that shouldn't be held against him considering the circumstances. Why not? Isn't it Jordan's own fault he got suspended from the NBA for a long time for gambling, even if the NBA kept it a secret? /conspiracy theory -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 13, 2009 -> 05:40 AM) Yeah, what a girl. I mean the guy had the most yards of anyone that was on the field buy a good margin, but damn, what a girl. I mean, your unbiased opinion is so valuable its ridiculous. Sorry, but the truth is, Pryor is the reason the Buckeyes lost last night as far as I'm concerned. Sure, the defense gave up the big drive late, and I know that is very, very important. But really, if you hold USC to 18 points in your house, you have to win the game. Period. And Pryor simply did not live up to the hype he had coming into Ohio State last night, and you have to play big and win games like that (especially at home) if you are really this 5 star, superstud prospect. And the youth excuse doesn't apply when the freshman QB on the other side of the field led his team 86 yards down the field to win the game when it was really needed. But it's ok because "everybody murders people, kills people, steals from you, steals from me". -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 04:14 PM) It isn't like the SEC has looked great so far. Georgia lost pretty big to Ok St. and LSU struggled with a Washington team that didn't win a game last year. Yeah but that's really stretching it IMO, and even in Georgia's case, they held what should be a high powered offense down pretty well. They just struggled on offense, and everybody knew they would with what they lost. LSU still won a road game, and it was a road game that didn't end until after 1 AM on their body clocks against a team fired up with a new coach. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 04:10 PM) We just give up too many big plays. I like Forcier as a frosh. By the time is an upperclassmen, he should be VERY good. It's close at half and we get ball first, so we'll see what adjustments we can make. Don't mean to say "we", but live with it. =P Did you go to Michigan? It's ok to say "we" if it's actually your school. -

Bobby Abreu entered today with a 1.202 OPS in his career against the Sox. He is the ultimate Sox killer in baseball right now as far as I am concerned. -

The WWL and other media outlets claim the SEC is 10 times better than every other league in college football on a yearly basis, but in 2009, they might actually have a case. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 04:04 PM) Big 12 is currently being absolutely owned btw. Houston beating Ok St. 24-7 and Wyoming is beating Texas 10-6 both almost at halftime. Both probably come back to win but wow is that pathetic. The Pac 10 might have a shot at 2nd best league in the country this year. -

QUOTE (Capn12 @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 03:18 PM) And UNC gets lucky in Connecticut, 12-10. The Americas Cupcake Conference may be the worst "major" football conference this year that we've seen in a LONG LONG time. I don't even think the ACC is the worst BCS conference this year, I still think the Big East is worse. The Big 10 might be even worse this year than it has been in it's recent down years, btw (although it's better than those two leagues). And wow, Iowa State is bad. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Sep 11, 2009 -> 05:18 PM) I hate how afraid U of I is to play ISU. They wouldn't have played us in football 3-4 years ago when we would have beat them and they won't play us in basketball the last 2-3 years because we would beat them. Can't you just enjoy your own school rather than be massively jealous of Illinois and have a complex akin to that of a scorned sorority girl? And Illinois State's basketball program still isn't very good, beating up on cupcakes and losing to real teams last year didn't change that. -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 11, 2009 -> 12:09 PM) The Williams Wall wins. The NFL(read: Goodell) has been defanged Bet the ranch that loopholes like this will be closed in the next CBA. It's going to take an extended work stoppage as is to get a deal done, might as well make sure something like this doesn't happen again while you're at it. -

Field Turf at Soldier Field?
whitesoxfan101 replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I can't think of a single reason why anybody would answer no to this. Soldier Field is at a minimum one of the three worst playing surfaces in the NFL (more than likely it's the worst), and fieldturf would solve a lot of problems. When you consider that FIFA allows it now (I think the poster who said they do earlier in the thread is right), there is no reason not to install it. -

QUOTE (almagest @ Sep 10, 2009 -> 09:43 PM) Jarrod Washburn has just been awful for Detroit. 6.81 ERA, 11 HR allowed in 37 innings, 11 BB/18 K, 1.405 WHIP. I don't even think these numbers include tonight's mediocre performance (3 ER in 5 IP). I figured he'd be worse for Detroit than Seattle, but not by this much. Keep it up, Jarrod! It's called regression to the means, and all mediocre players who have extended periods of success like Washburn eventually get hit by it, and hit hard (which is the main reason why I wasn't all that concerned when Detroit acquired him). Edwin Jackson is another guy due to have a regression, but unfortunately, his ERA has only been on a gradual climb, up about 0.6 runs in terms of ERA in the last 7 weeks. -
Anybody catch Governor Sanford's news conference in South Carolina today (well, yesterday now)? He might be just as crazy as Blago.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 03:49 PM) The aldermen voted 49-0 in favor of giving King Daley a blank check funded by the tax payers. Unbelievable. What, you don't trust Mayor Daley? His deep involvement in this is the one shining positive light I'll see in this if Chicago loses on the bid, even though I want Chicago to win the bid.

The only time I find a strikeout bothersome is if you have a man on 2nd with nobody out or a man on 3rd with less than two outs, since those are spots where a properly placed out or two can get you a run. Otherwise, who cares if you strike out? It's so overrated, especially by some Sox fans since we see the Twins chop it off the turf and run so much (and even that crap will end in 2010, they will have to enter the 21st century).
