Official Recruiting Thread II

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 01:49 PM) Rivals 4-star QB, Tyler Bray (#6 Pro-Style), committed to the Vols today. We desperately needed that. What a relief. I wouldn't worry about recruiting much. It's pretty clear that if Lane Kiffin has problems at Tennessee, it won't be related to recruiting. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 05:20 PM) My ND fan friends are talking crap to me already. They can't understand that I am cautious based on our Week 1 opponent and they believe the Irish are meant for the national title game already. I will continue to keep my mouth shut and if Michigan wins, Monday will be fun. To the winner of that game goes the spoils of massive overreaction and overhype. -
Will KW continue to remake us into a speedier team?
whitesoxfan101 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'd prefer to be built into a better defensive team with more on base percentage. Everybody makes so much of our troubels with leaving men on base and things like that, and yes, not being able to score from 2nd on a single or 1st on a double has been a problem for us. But a bigger problem for us has been lack of on base percentage, which is why we struggle to score without the home run in my opinion. It's just hard to string together 4 or 5 baserunners in an inning when you have a bunch of low on base percentages, and having Jim Thome out of town makes that problem even more noticeable. And as for the defense, we've all seen it and know how much improvement it needs as well. -
I was surprised at how empty the ballpark was today considering it was a holiday against Boston. The Cell is going to be an empty place the last 11 games if today was any indication.

24-13 in our last 37 home games.

QUOTE (zenryan @ Sep 7, 2009 -> 03:37 PM) What did you hear earlier? Sean Spence's playbook "went missing" at the team hotel for a few hours. They found it, but who knows what happened in those few hours. -
I'm sorry to hear that. Nobody is perfect though.

9/7 Boston at White Sox 1:05 on CSN

QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Sep 7, 2009 -> 03:28 PM) How do you figure that there's no chance at the playoffs? Granted....the odds are against us, but if we 17-7 over the final 24 games and 6 of those wins are against the Tigers, we are in the postseason. Thats not out of the question. The Sox haven't shown a run like 17-7 (or close to it) against AL competition this entire season, and there is no way in hell we will sweep Detroit in Detroit. Even if we play well against them, 4-2 is more likely, and that won't do a whole hell of a lot of good. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 7, 2009 -> 03:27 PM) That's the thing with this year. In 07, I really didn't' mind completely tanking. But now having a really s***ty September means that players important to our future (Beckham, Getz/Nix , Quentin, Rios, Alexei) are playing badly. In 07 we were so chocked full of awful it didn't matter. I didn't care if Andy Gonzalez/Erstad sucked. The only player on that list who I am worried about is Rios. I think Alexei will be fine (although he might be better suited back at 2B), Beckham will be fine, Getz is what he is, Q will be fine is he stays healthy, and Nix isn't all that important IMO. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 7, 2009 -> 03:23 PM) You know, it's interesting, even if I think we've fallen too far out to make a serious run at the playoffs, it's still fun to watch your team win a game, or to see hope for the future from guys stepping up or making solid plays. Or Jake Peavy, whatever. It's not as fun to watch at times like this where the Sox have no shot at the playoffs, but it's certainly a lot more relaxing. -
I hope he pitches well, and he probably will. Any idiot could pitch well in the NL, that league is a joke.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 6, 2009 -> 02:21 PM) Half of Washington's campus already has swine flu I think, that ought to hurt them. Perhaps. Swine flu is still an overhyped joke, but with as contagious as it seems to be, I'd imagine that will make it's way to the football team, and half of a football team having any sort of flu is still a problem. I can't wait to watch Miami/Florida State tonight. Should be a good game, I'm very interested to see how Miami's defense looks against Florida State's offense after what I heard earlier today. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 7, 2009 -> 12:07 PM) We're less than a week from their first game, and Eric Mangini still won't say whether his starting QB will be Brady Quinn or Derek Anderson. He says he's keeping it under wraps so that it will surprise the other team, but really, there's no way this is a good idea. Even his 2 QB's and the rest of his offense don't know who has the job. Yeah, he's really going to scare his opponent with a big surprise as to which crappy QB will start for his crappy team. -
QUOTE (Wise Master Buehrle @ Sep 7, 2009 -> 12:59 PM) Hate to break it to you, but that's not an exclusively St. Louis thing If you refer to bags as "corn hole", you have some issues. It's just like people who call pop "soda". Not good on either count.

QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 6, 2009 -> 01:22 PM) He's a roiding linebacker; battery was inevitable. Replace "linebacker" with "freak", and that statement could describe the vast majority of NFL players. Goddell should hire a discipline czar to deal with suspensions and stuff, that alone is a full time job in the NFL. Maybe Merriman will get suspended for a couple games, get former NIU great Larry English a couple of starts. -
QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Sep 6, 2009 -> 01:35 PM) More so than BYU? That's a good point, probably 2nd behind BYU then.

The Official Put the Voodoo Devil Curse on the Tigers Thread
whitesoxfan101 replied to iamshack's topic in The Diamond Club
We had our chances to build a first place cushion on the Tigers for so long. Not only did we not build a cushion, we hung 2 or 3 games behind for weeks and weeks until the recent road trip killed us. The White Sox have nowhere to look but the mirror, becuase instead of treading water up 3 games or so like we could (maybe even should) be right now with both teams playing well, the treading water mark is 7 games back. -
QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Sep 6, 2009 -> 12:42 PM) I don't think ANY of the hate is religiously-based. Gonzaga is Catholic and it doesn't get any hate. I voted for the bandwagon fans who didn't go to ND, don't have family who went to ND, don't live near ND and have no reason to be fans other than to be attached to the 'name'. I disagree that Gonzaga doesn't get any hate, but I see your point because it's not nearly as much. However, Notre Dame is widely regarded as THE Catholic/Religious University on the United States, I think it's the only school where if brought up, people think religion. I'm not calling you out personally as hating them due to religion (your reasoning to dislike them is perfectly reasonable), but the fact remains that I would bet a lot of people dislike them for religious reasons, but some wouldn't admit to that being the reason.

QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 6, 2009 -> 11:59 AM) How weak would a Big East-heavy schedule look, though. I have always wanted to see Notre Dame join the Big 10 for football, and the league make divisions and have a conference championship game, although I'm not sure how feasible that is. Although, the Big 10 isn't exactly great right now either, especially considering that Iowa appears to suck after their performance yesterday, Illinois is going to be a major letdown again, and Ohio State is going to get beat (probably rather easily) at home by a USC team with a true freshman quarterback in front of the whole world next week (sorry Rock). -
Garcia will be earlier in the season, but I can't see him staying healthy and being effective the entire year (one of the two will go wrong), so Dan Hudson will end up in the spot later on.

QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 6, 2009 -> 11:51 AM) They schedule these teams 5-8 years ahead of time. I know that (although it's generally more like 3 to 5, but your point still stands), and as I said, I don't blame Notre Dame or say that they purposely schedule a bunch of creampuffs this year. But the fact remains, as it turned out, it is a soft schedule. -

Actually, as I think about it, another thing that might be hurting Illinois on the trail is the fact that there is a distinct possibility Ron Zook's job is in jeopardy right now. -

QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 6, 2009 -> 11:48 AM) There isn't a SWAC, MAC or 1AA team on that schedule. Yeah there is, Washington State. And say what you will about how Washington looked last night, but they still haven't won a game in 22 months. -
I think that most people that do hate Notre Dame hate them due to the religious part, but many of them wouldn't admit to it. I personally think Notre Dame will need to join a conference if they ever want to regain top form, but they get so much money from NBC that they would never do that, and I have a hard time blaming them.

QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 6, 2009 -> 11:43 AM) Nevada won a bowl game last year Michigan is usually good Michigan St. won 9 games Purdue is rebuilding Washington's looking good early USC is always good Boston College also won 9 Washington St. is not great, yeah Navy's been tough, almost beat Ohio St Pittsburgh won 9 Connecticut was in a bowl game last year Stanford is rebuilding I see maybe 3 "puff" teams. The rest are competitive or good. Washington's looking good early I would argue. They haven't won a game since 2007, and they really weren't a threat at any point in the 4th quarter last night hosting a sleepwalking LSU team. In general though, I don't think Notre Dame purposely scheduled a creampuff schedule this year, it just turned out to be one.
