Official 2009-2010 NFL Thread
whitesoxfan101 replied to rangercal's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Rivers is way better than average, as far as I'm concerned he's a better QB than Jay Cutler. I'm surprised to see all of these incredibly large contracts though considering the league is going to have an extended work stoppage in 2011. -
White Sox Weekend: Officially Un-Rootable
whitesoxfan101 replied to Chisoxfn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I don't find the Sox to be un-rootable, but they are as hard to root for as any Sox team I have ever seen. They are certainly VERY VERY unwatchable. I haven't watched 9 innings of a Sox game very often lately because it's almost impossible to do without self mutilation coming into play. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 01:58 PM) Ok, I haven't read the whole thing but I will ask this question, and then go read the article... (uh oh, ) but the mental errors tells me something perhaps - has Ozzie lost the team? He's either lost this team, or the 2009 version of Ozzie Guillen is a bad manager. What has happened in games is absolutely inexcuseable. -
GAME THREAD: Sox (63-61) @ Sawx (70-53), 6:10pm CT

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 07:42 PM) You know him, KW, Walker, and Cooper have job security for life. I truly feel like Ozzie did a great job during the 1st half of the year, but he's been absolutely atrocious the 2nd half of the year. It's going to be a MISERABLE existance for Sox fans if people have job security for life. We will not win with an enviornment like that. -

Somebody please explain to me why Ozzie Guillen's job isn't at least questioned strongly right now. He's doing an awful job this year, and his move to a 4 man rotation almost knocked us out of the playoffs last year. -
QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 23, 2009 -> 01:11 AM) Yeah since we can't beat any good teams from the AL east....wait, right? We are going to get absolutely pansted in Boston and New York. Some of the series wins we've had against good teams were cute and all, but this is big boy time. Playing good teams on the road with a lot to play for. This team has proven time and time again that they are dogs when they really need wins, so I expect that to continue. I hope this post is laughed at in a week, but I'm not betting on it.
-
I am guessing 4-7, 1 win at each site. .500 teams don't do any better than that on big boy road trips like this.
-
We're not "dead" yet. But start to measure us up for the body bags because we will be by the time that road trip is over.

http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/story/1192129.html My buddy who works in the Miami football department told me that the sucker punch rumors are true, some walk on punched him after he got out of the shower. They had apparently been jawing for about a week in practice back and forth. I'm also told Ojomo will be out for "quite a while". He's a pretty good player so losing him sucks for them, especially considering the circumstances. As for Tebow, he's college football's answer to Christian Laettner. -
What is your general feeling about the White Sox?
whitesoxfan101 replied to striker's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Considering upcoming matchups, upcoming pitching matchups, upcoming schedules, games left, standings, and current level of play....my current general feeling about the White Sox is we're in more trouble than we have been since early to mid June. -
Favre Signing with Vikings today
whitesoxfan101 replied to Steve9347's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I'm shocked at how many people were foolish enough to believe Favre when he said he wasn't coming back. He just didn't want to go to camp, and as soon as came broke, he signed. It was obvious this was what was going to happen. And all the people who think this will mess with the Vikings chemistry and all that BS are full of it too, any team that goes from having Sage Rosenfels/Tavaris Jackson as their QB to having Brett Favre as their QB will be happy, even if Brett is about 70 percent of what he once was. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 12:04 AM) As I was saying, the Cubs best shot is to win the Wild Card. The Cardinals schedule is tougher, but it lines up perfectly for them so they can skip their non-existent #5 starter a handful of times. Start rooting for Colorado and San Fran a lot. As I was saying, they aren't going to make the playoffs. St. Louis is up 6 games and is just a better team than the Cubs, and the Cubs aren't good enough to beat out all of those teams in the wild card race, as at least one of them will finish with a better record than the baby bears.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 10:18 AM) Brett Favre is signing with the Vikings today. http://wcco.com/vikings/brett.favre.minnesota.2.1133319.html That's the link btw, he's apparently flying to Minnesota either right now or very soon. Anybody who didn't see this coming is simply sleeping, it was pretty obvious all along that he'd sign as soon as camp ended. He just didn't want to deal with camp. -

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 02:52 PM) I have to laugh so many people already trippin out over a preseason game. I don't really blame Cutler... did you guys see the tackles getting worked over? Chris Williams was getting beat repeatedly. Cutler is going to have about the 30th best WR group in the NFL throughout the regular season too though, which is a concern. You can only do so much throwing it to Olsen, Clark, and Forte. -

You know what Jay Cutler is? He's what the Bears hoped and prayed Rex Grossman would become when they drafted him in the first round, except he's bigger and taller. He's a gunslinging QB who will make stupid mistakes on occasion, but more often then not will throw for a ton of yards and touchdowns and lead your team to a lot of points as it's long term solution at quarterback. The key to this team is still the defense, because I just think it sucks, especially in pass coverage. -

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 02:37 PM) This team seems to focus much more against really good teams(Dodgers, Rays, Yankees, Angels), that guy named Jake Peavy might help a little bit too. Exactly. Peavy/Buehrle/Floyd/Danks in October give you a shot. -

I've said all along I still think Favre will come back and I stand by it. He just didn't want to deal with training camp, and now that training camp is almost over, the rumors are starting, and soon enough he will be back. -

Underachievers. This team has absolutely no business not winning this crap division, but we've given away an incredible amount of games. It feels amazingly like 2003, as someone mentioned before. Just like in 2003, we have a talented team with a very good pitching rotation (although our offense isn't as good this year, but our pitching staff will be better when Peavy gets back), but I think we're going to miss a golden opportunity to make the playoffs. Also, like in 2003, I think this team could make a serious run if it just found a way to get in. -

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 16, 2009 -> 11:10 PM) Am I the only one who thinks "PED's" every time I see a record of any kind being broken in sports now? Nope, I'm the same way. I'd be surprised if Bolt ISN'T on PED's. -

Maybe I should have went to college in the south of something, because every August I get incredibly excited about the upcoming start of the college football season, and this year is no exception. Went to the NIU scrimmage Saturday just as a small whetting of the appetite, can't wait for the real games to start nationwide. -
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 15, 2009 -> 12:37 AM) I'd kill to have Marmol in our pen. 31 other teams would kill for him too. He would get CRUSHED in the AL. That walking the bases loaded and pitching out of it bull s*** may work against the NL, but it wouldn't work in our league. And 31 other teams? This isn't the NFL. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 08:36 PM) Stoney said this morning on Sportsrise that the Cubs have 49 games left in this season, and they only play 12 against teams that are over .500 now. Expect them in the playoffs. I'd be stunned if they are in the playoffs. St. Louis is better than them, and at least one wild card contender will step up and finish ahead of the Cubs.

Mediocre baseball team Worse division Might be a good combo for us

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 15, 2009 -> 12:23 AM) Nobody loved Arow's balls-out defense more than me, but count me as excited to see what Rios is going to do out there. Rios makes it look a lot easier and seems to cover more ground.
-
Rios is going to be a better defensive CF than Rowand right? Just making sure.
-
We have a good bullpen, Alexei is a good hitter in big spots, Bacon is the man, Castro is a decent backup catcher. That's about all I got tonight. This game made me feel worse about our chances, if anything. At least we won though.

Name a state that the US could do without
whitesoxfan101 replied to jasonxctf's topic in The Filibuster
If you get rid of Iowa, the Cubs would draw crowds akin to the Montreal Expos and struggle to survive. So i'll go with Iowa.
