He should have been available in the 9th inning tonight. I hope everything with the baby goes well.

Last 5 outings: 5.1 IP, 10 hits, 3 walks, 1 HBP, 7 runs (6 earned) I understand everybody has the right to slump, but his WHIP and BAA are approaching 2006 levels, and his ERA has surpassed it. He was 41 for 45 in saves that year, and is a respectable 22 for 25 this year, but it seems like he's in trouble almost every outing, and every 92 MPH fastball he throws makes me more and more worried that he's on a downhill turn. If we trade him this winter, I can't blame the front office.

QUOTE (Felix @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 05:32 PM) It's embarrassing that more people hate the Cubs than any of our division rivals. I couldn't disagree more. If the question was "who is it most important loses", I would answer whatever divisional rival is alongside us in the race, such as this year where the answer would be Detroit and Minnesota. But that's not the question, the question is hate. And the only two organzations in baseball I currently find hateable are the Red Sox and Cubs because of their idiotic fans. The only team in our division I find close to hateable is the Tigers because of the fact they represent Detroit, but they aren't good enough for me to hate them. I moreso just laugh at them, and will again this year when they collapse down the stretch.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 08:03 AM) I'm not sure how I feel about TCQ coming back. Is he healthy? Is he ready to be here? If so, then that's awesome, and this becomes a playoff team. If not, then I don't see what there is to be excited about. Oh, and yeah Wise doesn't really add anything to this team except as an occasional PR. TCQ is as healthy as he's going to be this season. He'll never be 100 percent until he has surgery in all likelihood, so we might as well try it now and see how it goes. Even a 70 percent Carlos in left with Pods in center is an improvement over Pods in left and the Wise/Anderson platoon in center though, so as long as Carlos is on the field, this is a good thing.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 12:02 PM) We do have a real habit over the years of having guys stall at the AAAA level who go on to be solid relievers with other teams, don't we? We've had some, but Masset's stuff actually has looked a lot better this year too, which I can't remember happening. Makes you wonder.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 11:09 AM) I don't like the taste of beer, I guess that counts. Couldn't agree more, and I guarantee our opinion is VERY unpopular.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 11:58 AM) Then you have Nick Masset who this season has seen his fastball velocity rise, horizontal movement drop and control rise. His WHIP is down 0.620 from last year and a full 1.040 from '07. What has happened to Nick Masset this year is impossible to explain. Maybe he's on something because there is no number or video of him pitching in our organization that would suggest he was capable of it. Or maybe the NL is just that bad.

People who really, legitimately don't like Ozzie as a manager most likely just don't fully grasp how stupid most major league managers are. It shocks me on a daily basis seeing how many stupid decisions managers make, and although Ozzie has his fare share of mistakes, overall over the course of your typical 162 game season he's as good as his job as just about anybody in the league.

QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 08:19 AM) I love how all the PC guys try to act like they are disgusted by this. Give me a break. I'm not disgusted by the fact there is a nude tape of her out there, I'm disgusted at how the tape was acquired. I can't imagine how anybody would not be disgusted by the idea of some weirdo secretly taping them without clothes on through a peephole and then putting it out there for all to see. It's about as much a case of invasion of privacy (and stalking for that matter, how else would the guy know where she is staying?) that you are going to come across.

QUOTE (YASNY @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 11:19 AM) So we have scored as many as we have given and are 4 games over .500 ... Yes, Ozzie's an idiot. Think green on that last sentence. I actually agree that people who think Ozzie is an idiot (outside of his DeWayne Wise mancrush, which is pretty impossible to explain) are wrong because I think that overall he's a good manager, but you aren't a good manager just because your record is better than your run differential. There is a lot more to it than that.

Considering the batter ended up getting a single, the 8th inning throw out was absolutely gigantic. We might not win without it.

QUOTE (The Baconator @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 12:49 AM) Wait, hold up. I think a lot of people are moving too fast here. After 3 starts everyone was saying they wouldn't trade Richard, "he's the next thing". Poreda was always "untouchable", but now that he's up (and not being used) we need to send him down and get Torres? Now, I like Torres and think he might have a chance in the future, but it takes more than 10 appearances with a 2.45 ERA for Poreda and 12 starts for Richard. Sometimes you just need to give a player time to adjust before you send them down (see: Brian Anderson...). Torres will get his time, just like how Getz had to wait for awhile. But give Poreda a chance before they send him down so soon. Poreda should have never been called up. Either call him up to start ot keep him in the minors to get work. As for Richard, he's been bad for a very long time now, and we can't afford an automatic hinderance every 5th day since we're contending right now.

The Phillies are fantastic, but I think they might need Halladay in October. Didn't need him tonight though, the Cubs getting blown out 9-1 in a game where Rodrigo Lopez faced Ted Lilly just shows that the Nationals series was indeed a Nationals aided mirage.

Bad call at home, but screw 'em! We will take it.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 12:32 AM) Poreda to AAA, Richard to BP probably; this all hinges on Colon's start on Friday most likely. I'd take it.

Ehh this thread is only relevant IMO on a ball late in the game where Wise is a defensive replacement and he doesn't get to a ball that Anderson would have got to. But I'm sure that situation will happen eventually, and I will be here.

ChiSox looking to deal Dotel/Linebrink?
whitesoxfan101 replied to prochisox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I don't think anybody would take Linebrink's contract. I also don't think we'd be in a position to trade a bullpen arm with the way they have pitched down there lately, we need all the arms we can get. -
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 03:01 PM) Anderson had a chance to earn his role, he didnt. That leaves it up to the manager to decide, and Ozzie made his choice. Anderson has earned his role. He's a backup outfielder who plays very good defense and doesn't hit well, but at least occasionally can swing the bat a wee bit. He's a better offensive and defensive player than DeWayne Wise, he hits right handed pitching better, he's younger, and the only thing he doesn't do that Wise does is occasionally steal a base.

Anderson vs. RHP this year: 131 AB, .267/.333/.336/.669 Wise vs. RHP this year: 89 AB, .180/.223/.303/.527 So, indeed, the having a lefty bat line of thinking holds no water either.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 02:57 PM) I look forward to reading this thread after 2 hours. It will probably have 45 pages of Wise bashing with 3 or 4 comments mentioning the return of Quentin. As I said, we knew Q was coming back, that's no surprise. In retrospect, since Ozzie sometimes ignores actual performance and what guys can do in place of his ego and personal agendas, we shouldn't be surprised Wise is still around and BA is gone either. But some of us had hope that this team might actually make the correct decision. Unfortunately, that was false hope.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 02:47 PM) They probably just wanted a left handed pinch hitter over a right handed pinch hitter. If Anderson or Wise is pinch hitting, it's going to result in an out anyways. Anderson is a better defender, which is the only realy use that roster spot has anyways since you're going to see a lot of Pods moving to left and a defensive replacement moving into center to keep Q fresh later in games. Wise is marginally better as a pinch runner (which is really not important), and it's not by a big margin anyways. That's about it.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 12:13 PM) Steve Nash re-ups with the Suns. They should have traded him when they had the chance and he had value. By the time the Suns are good enough to win a championship again, he'll either be retired or washed up. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 02:33 PM) Anderson had his chance to hit in June. He didn't. Even I'm not going to bother caring about this decision. Q!!!!!!!! Every roster spot is important. Luckily, we're an AL team, so a bench spot among the position players isn't nearly as important, but it's still important. There is going to be a game (or two) where we put Wise in as a defensive replacment in CF, and he doesn't get to a ball that Anderson would have got to, and we lose because of it. And as we all saw last year, every game counts.

QUOTE (greasywheels121 @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 09:43 PM) I would have Arizona in the "old people" category too, but besides that small detail, that is basically how I see the U.S. It's like they know me.
