QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 11, 2009 -> 10:57 PM) Your posts about the dome and our play there are funny. p.s. Joe Crede doesn't suck. He's a low to mid 700's OPS guy who plays solid, but overrated defense (although I can't speak to what he's done defensively this year, I don't see a lot of Twins games). He may not suck, but he's pretty darn close, and anybody who loses a second of sleep over him being on the Twins is simply worrying too much about things.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 11, 2009 -> 09:48 PM) Joe Crede > Twins Joe Crede sucks, Gavin Floyd just doesn't know how to get him out. Anyways, great win tonight, although it shouldn't have been that difficult. This team is better built to win games up there, so hopefully we can put up a 4-5 or 5-4 record at the Metrodome here in it's final season.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 06:35 PM) Why does Poreda have a "ton more upside" than Clayton? Because he's a first round draft pick (late)? Because he hasn't shown a consistent or electric fastball like he was hyped to have...one that has been 1-3 MPH under Clayton's? Because he throws a "decent" slider and "good" change like Clayton? Poreda seems, from watching him a bit, that he changes his motion even more than Richard when throwing offspeed stuff...he will get hit hard, just like Clayton got hit hard throwing just one pitch consistently for strikes and falling behind in counts. I am simply going to hope this entire post, especially the bolded, is not serious and you are simply playing devil's advocate. Aaron Poreda has a ton more upside than Clayton Richard, and will be a much better pitcher than Clayton Richard. Such is so obvious that explanation of why isn't even necessary.

White Sox Acquire RP Tony Pena from ARI for Brandon Allen

QUOTE (kristofer @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 05:24 PM) nick swisher's .239 average is so good. No, but his .370 on base and .849 OPS (which are way more important than batting average) would look pretty good for us right now. -
QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 02:59 PM) Poreda is fine where he is on the big league club, and that is as the 2nd lefty out of the pen. from what I've seen of him that is the best he'll be is a reliever. He doesn't have the stuff to be a starter. Might as well live with Richard and let him grow as a SP because he has better stuff than Poreda does. IMO Poreda will be a worse starter than Richard if you can believe that is possible I can fully understand why somebody wouldn't want Aaron in the rotation right now, but it's unacceptable to keep Clayton Richard there at this point, especially with us in contention. Clayton is not a starter, which is ok, but you can't continue to start him when such a fact is obvious.

Who should be the 5th starter after the ASB?
whitesoxfan101 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Poreda of course, but really I will be satisfied with ANYBODY except Clayton Richard right now. -
Why is Clayton Richard in our starting rotation?
whitesoxfan101 replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Once again, I ask the same question. Hopefully, today's outing combined with having the all star break at our disposal in a few days allows us to make the obvious change of getting Clayton out of the starting rotation. -

whitesoxfan101 replied to knightni's topic in 2009 Season in Review
Hopefully the ball is carrying better today (never seen a White Sox team have 4 or 5 flyouts die at the wall like they did last night) and I hope Clayton Richard does something he hasn't done in a long time now, which is make himself useful. -
Hineybird to the Tribune?

QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 04:57 PM) There's a reference in this article to "a reporter" summoning security to the Wrigley Field press box when Zambrano was up there goofing around this morning: http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune....lays-start.html Its gotta be him. Haha you know that was him. Hineybird at the Trib is a perfect fit since I never read it and now that they screwed with the old chicagosports.com format, I don't read their website either. -

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 11:24 PM) Dear lord.... Looks like Parker is gone too for some posters here who wanted him. The Parker horse left the barn with the Pargo signing today. As for Varajeo, that's one of the worst contracts in recent memory (if not longer), especially with the cap dropping. Wow. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 02:46 PM) Memo: cap level could plummet next year. If the cap drops that far, I don't think the Bulls can offer a max deal even with renouncing Tyrus. They may still need to move Hinrich/Deng to do that or have Salmons opt-out (IIRC he does have that option) If the cap falls that far, all the 2010 guys are going to be forced to stay with their teams anyways. I think the Bulls will have enough to offer 1 max deal. -
Steve McNair shot to death

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 09:38 PM) McNair was asleep during the shooting. Even worse, "Before shooting herself, the 20-year-old sat next to his body and "tried to stage it so she would fall in his lap" http://nfl.fanhouse.com/2009/07/08/police-...killed-herse%2F This sounds like the classic "crime of passion/lovers quarrel." What a bizarre case. -

White Sox Acquire RP Tony Pena from ARI for Brandon Allen
whitesoxfan101 replied to chetkincaid's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 01:38 AM) Where is your seat in the Sox war room? I mean, like arms length away from Kenny?? Making statements like these are totally asinine. You have NO idea what the value of Brandon Allen really is, or what package could have made to acquire Pena. I obviously can't with 110 percent certainty speak to the specific value of Brandon Allen (although I think it's pretty obvious to anyone who pays attention even to a slight degree that it's more than a middle reliever), however I can say that if he was the bare minimum required to bring Tony Pena in, then there is no way in hell we should have been making a trade for Tony Pena. I understand there are certain people here who simply will not be critical of Kenny Williams all that often though, which is fine, that's their perrogative and since he's got a ring, I can understand it to a degree. I will say it's fascinating that the Diamondbacks fans are ripping this trade though, not sure what exactly they think a middle reliever who has been mediocre in 2009 is going to bring back. -
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 08:05 AM) They do that because people watch it. When people watch it they money which is their primary reason for existence. The end. If you don't like it, do what I do and just ignore it until it goes away, which it will in the coming days. I have ignored it, but that doesn't mean i'm not going to laugh at it.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 11:55 PM) He and MB will get statutes at some point Absolutely, and I'll be there if possible when each gets their statue. They have been immeasurably important to this franchise, not to the level of Frank Thomas but pretty darn close.

White Sox Acquire RP Tony Pena from ARI for Brandon Allen

QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 12:26 AM) If you want to hate the trade because it's the safer move that's fine, but I just think a lot of people are hating the trade for the wrong reasons. Allen isn't going to be a superstar and he isn't the only option the Sox have for first base in the future. My only issues with the trade are I think Allen had more potential return value than this, or on the flipside if we wanted Pena that much, we could have got him for less than Allen. Those are 2 significant issues though. -

whitesoxfan101 replied to chetkincaid's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 12:12 AM) Actually I think this trade is trading the riskier guy for the safer guy. Both players have upside and potential still, but the floor for Pena is mediocre reliever in the Majors. The floor for Allen is that he doesn't do anything in the Majors. The upside for Pena is a damn good setup guy or a closer. Allen's upside is an average/solid starting 1B. Pena has the higher floor, but the lower ceiling. Even if I agree with every word of this (and I'd have a hard time arguing with you), I thought we were going away from the lower ceiling BS. Plus, I don't think taking a risk on a relief pitcher is all that attractive a prospect with how weird they can be. -
The necessary "HELL YES!"/Hawk poll
whitesoxfan101 replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Everybody here knows I am critical of Hawk at times, but I absolutely LOVE the "hell yes." The key is, as Soxfan just said, in moderation. Like tonight, he used it for the grand slam that put us up 5-3 in the 2nd half of the game, and because Paulie had a 3 HR night and that's fine. Just don't overdo it and kill a good thing. -
Go ahead and vote, you know you want to.

QUOTE (dbaho @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 11:53 PM) Look if Pena can pitch as well as Matt Thornton has for the Sox, this is an excellent trade by Kenny and there's a good chance that could happen IMO. Unfortunately, there's also a chance he could turn into Mike MacDougal v2.0. The return for Allen should be much more of a sure thing than a risk/project type. -

QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 11:49 PM) I think by now you know to never get obsessed with White Sox minor leaguers. Odds are they will be dealt. I don't think anybody has an issue with dealing Allen, the issue is what we got back for him. -
White Sox GM Hampered by low Attendance

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 11:45 PM) I'm not disputing the poor performance and the bad weather. What my argument is is that Sox fans are using the economy for an excuse when it isn't the reason fans are going to less games. It's just one that seems more justifiable. Well I can't speak for those people or even to the idea that they might exist because I'm actually going to go to more games this year than I did last year it appears even with the economy and the team not as good in 2009 as it was in 2008. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 11:42 PM) See, I agree it is smaller and less-affluent, but not as much as to reflect the difference in monetary support that exists. I truly think Sox fans are stubborn bastards. I agree with this too, but it still doesn't explain why 4,000 less people a night who were showing up last year aren't showing up this year. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 11:38 PM) No? So you are going to argue that the 4k drop in attendance is entirely due to the economy and higher parking and concessions? That's a large part of it, but a poor product on the field, lousy weather, and the team not hitting or playing well at all at home aren't helping either. I would LOVE to know why you think attendance is down.
