Why is Clayton Richard in our starting rotation?
whitesoxfan101 replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 5, 2009 -> 03:20 PM) Why was the arrival of this thread so predictable? The guy's still learning and he's only a 5th starter. If Ozzie wants to switch him with Poreda, he will. Because Clayton has sucked for weeks now? I wouldn't have as big a problem with being patient with Clayton, but we have a starter with better stuff and a far higher ceiling in the bullpen, and we're in the race and can't afford to watch Clayton suck and not go deep into games start after start. If you won't at least admit that starting Poreda over Richard should be strongly considered at this point, then I don't get it. -
QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 5, 2009 -> 02:52 PM) Everytime it looks like we are finally finding our stride and breaking out, we revert back to our old sucky selves. I know one thing, I'll be extremely pissed if this team just hangs in mediocrity and we do nothing at the deadline. Either play like contenders, or play like the bad team we are. This middle ground s*** is only gonna hurt us in the long run. The middle ground is where we are going to end up in my opinion. We won't trade away anybody at the deadline, and we won't make the playoffs either. It's a very painful and very real possibility.

QUOTE (TheHolyBovine @ Jul 5, 2009 -> 02:55 PM) Don't know if you watched the game today, but Richard: a) was touching 97, with velocity consistently between 92-94 B) had a great change-up c) was very unlucky. the royals only had two balls hit hard against him In terms of stuff, he has a better arm than MB or JD, and he's a lefty to boot. You have to give him a chance to get his stuff together. He's very close to breaking through. I've heard all year how he has great stuff and has had bad luck and all of that. I'm tired of it. I haven't seen results in his starts since the month of May, he consistently loses his stuff and gets tired very early on in terms of pitch count, and if we're really "in it to win it", we can't afford to go through the tough times and watch him suffer waiting to have a payoff later. The one good part of 2007 is we were able to do that with Gavin and Danks, but that isn't the case now, especially as our #1 pick in 2007 (who is better regardless of if people admit it) is rotting away in the bullpen. -
He had a 6.04 ERA and 1.66 WHIP in 6 June starts which he averaged less than 5 inning per outing, and his first start of July this afternoon was more of the same. His season ERA is now up to 4.75 and his WHIP over 1 and a half. We have a better, young pitcher who needs experience rotting in the bullpen not getting any burn in Aaron Poreda. It's pretty clear that Poreda and Richard's roles should be reversed and has been for a couple weeks now. I understand this team is playing well, but we can't let Clayton Richard continue to bring down our rotation because he had 3 good starts against non playoff teams in May, especially now that we're actually in the race.

Steve McNair shot to death

Sounds like either his wife shot him and then killed herself, or maybe both were murdered and a suspect is at large. Either way, what a strange and sad story. RIP. -

The offense should have done a lot more against the awful Bruce Chen, but fortunately Mark had their back. Just keep winning games.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 12:13 PM) Just heard a clip of a Gordon interview from earlier today on ESPN 1000, basically even though the Bulls GM said he would be the number one priority, Gordon said the Bulls didn't even make him an offer or barely contact him. So it sounds like the Bulls had little interest in resigning him, which as I said above, I'm OK with. The only reason the Bulls said re-signing Gordon was the number one priority was to appease the Ben Gordon fans out there (I hate when teams do stuff like that, btw, they should know the truth will eventually come out.) -

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 11:56 AM) I'm OK with the Bulls not reupping with Gordon. He's a good player, no doubt, but I just don't see him making the Bulls significantly better. It might effect the 2009-10 win total in a negative way, but might positively effect going into the future. Yeah I think your point about it affecting 2009-2010 in a negative way is probably true, and they realize that. It's a move about the future though, and this team wasn't going to conted for a title in 2009-2010 anyways. I'd guess they will sign a backup shooting guard to a 1 year deal in the meantime though, like a Marquis Daniels or Dahntay Jones. EDIT: The Bulls have already contacted Daniels. http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Marquis+Daniels+/ -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 11:51 AM) All things considered...would the Bulls rather have 2010 cap space or Ben Gordon plus some luxury tax payments right now or a mandate to move either Hinrich or Deng? I find it difficult to say that 2010 cap space is the wrong move, esp. the more I think about it. It still stings to lose him without even getting an extra draft pick in return though. And I can't figure out why we wouldn't draft a SG; we clearly need a backup. I think the answer to your question is a pretty easy one. As for your point about the backup SG, I don't get that either. I liked the James Johnson pick, but the Bulls knew Ben Gordon was going to be gone, which makes taking Taj Gibson over Wayne Ellington make absolutely zero sense. -

We stole a game where the pitching matchup looked to give us no chance earlier this week in the Richard vs. Lee game. Tonight, it's the reverse, and we really need to make sure we win the game in which the pitching matchup is decidedly in our favor. Hopefully the boys can keep it up and get that done. -
What's the best seats you've ever had at the Cell?
whitesoxfan101 replied to Marky Mark's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Second row down the right field line, basically just past where the first base coach stands in terms of distance from home plate. I get to sit there once a year, and it's a great time. -
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 10:32 AM) Levine was just on ESPN 1000 and said that basically the Cubs have no input from ownership other than they can't add payroll. Zell is an absent owner and the potential new owners have no footing to say anything Doesn't Levine realize that this info has been obvious for months now? That's not exactly breaking news.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 11:32 AM) THe question becomes is there going to be a slot for some of these guys to learn on the job in Chicago? With the depth the Hawks have, you can really ease the young guys in and have them learn on the job very slowly and only after gaining plenty of minor league experience. It's a great luxury to have. -

QUOTE (rangercal @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 11:27 AM) that still has nothing to do with the writing on the wall for 3 weeks. Just wondering if 101 had inside info. All I'm going to say is I've had it on good authority for quite a while now that this team had no interest in keeping Ben Gordon, and I still think that a person who didn't have the same info I did could have seen the writing on the wall as well (with the exception of when they took Taj Gibson over Wayne Ellington, which made no sense.) Ben Gordon was just on Silvy and Waddle in fact, and he said that the Bulls did not even offer him a contract. If that's not proof they didn't want him back, I don't know what is, and all things considered, I have a hard time blaming the Bulls for feeling that way. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 12:17 AM) If I'm the Bulls I think long and hard about finding a way to move Deng and Hinrich for expirings over the next year and making a major push at landing both Bosh and Wade. Or trade for Bosh early and than find enough room to go after Wade. Deng is unmoveable right now in my opinion with his contract, similar situation to what the Hawks have with Brian Campbell (although he might be a bit more realistic to move). Trading Hinrich would be a killer for this year because the backcourt is thin enough, but I think they might deal him anyways for the sake of the summer of 2010. -

What a great day for the Hawks, wow. It appears they are in Kenny Williams mode for the 2009-2010 season, win now or bust. I just hope they can keep Keith, Toews, and Kane next summer. I agree with those who have pointed out Buff or Steeger might be gone soon too, there are several good young (cheaper) players knocking on the door. That's how they do it in Detroit and hopefully the Hawks can continue to replenish the system as young players come up to the big club and get a similar revolving door in place. -

I'm glad Ben is gone. I firmly believe you can't win a championship with him in your starting lineup, and the Bulls can find much better use of 11 million dollars a year for the next 5 years than Ben Gordon. I know he's a polarizing figure, and I am biased, but good riddance. Have fun in Detroit playing for a team who is going to be stuck in "basketball hell" for a while (playoff team who isn't going any further than that.) Losing Ben will hurt in 2009-2010, but it is for the best in the long run IMO. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 07:21 PM) Boozer, Okur opt to stay with the Jazz. This makes it a lot more likely that the Pistons will make a major offer to Gordon. Both will be FA's next offseason, so Boozer just became a 3rd option next year for teams in need of a PF. I would be stunned if Ben Gordon remains in Chicago. The writing is on the wall and has been for a few weeks now. -

What the hell is the point? I don't see anybody saying this.team.is.dead. People just think they aren't good enough to win the division, and they are perfectly in their right to think that. -

Dye and Beckham are both on incredible tears right now, and Getz has been red hot the last 3 games. Richard I thought was encouraging tonight overall, and Jayson Nix is starting to look like a useful utility player. Nice win.

He's started going up the middle with and even pulling the fastball the last few games. If he can continue to do that without compromising his regular swing, he's going to be a .300 plus hitter. He seems to have made an adjustment at the major league level as a 22 year old rookie, which I did not think he could do. I'm impressed.

whitesoxfan101 replied to YonderLaroche's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The recent stretch shows why there is so much hope for the future, but this team still isn't going to the playoffs unless Carlos Quentin comes back within the next month and plays at the level he did in 2008 (which I don't believe will happen.)
