  1. I'd rather have Bacon at 2nd simply because his hitting has more value there and I think his defense will be pretty comparable at 2nd or 3rd anyways. I don't think Fields or Getz is an everyday player.
  2. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 05:35 AM) Seems like every Sox fan I know plays the baseball intelligence card when dissing the Cubs. Just sayin' Would you rather have the attendance or intelligence argument on your side? I'll take the intelligence argument all day long thank you very much. There are lots of things which are both popular and idiotic, and the Cubs are just one of them.
  3. Players today want to play for weak managers who they can push around, so the top 5 of this poll is no surprise.
  4. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 12:13 AM) From what I gather, Walter Cronkite is in hospice. Yeah, I read about a week ago that he's "gravely ill". He may be next.
  5. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 10:52 PM) This hit me harder than Michael Jackson's passing. Honestly. Same here. RIP Billy.
  6. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 11:19 PM) Am I the only one that thinks it is pretty pathetic how fickle our attendance is? It's bothered me for years. If you want consistent attendance, either be really good like the Yankees and Red Sox, or sell something other than the game like the Cubs. Otherwise, your attendance is going to be fickle. As for Lou and the whole Cubs act this weekend, f*** them. They are losers, have been losers for over a century, and will continue to be losers. And people who root for them are idiots for putting up with it. Period.
  7. I know the Cubs ownership situation has been a hot topic in Chicago, but I think it's settled in that John Danks is the true owner of the Chicago Cubs. Just a great job all around today by the Sox, but especially by him.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 10:18 PM) I told you guys it wouldn't be the Cubs. They can't add a damned penny in payroll right now. This is very true, and it surprises me how even now, so few people realize this. But man, DeRosa to the Cardinals, that is absolutely delicious. That and the way the Cubs lost today put together means it's an awful day to be a Cubs fan. Well check that, EVERY day is an awful day to be a Cubs fan, but today is even worse than usual.
  9. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 07:29 PM) I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. I like the guy. He's as mentally fragile a professional athlete as i've ever seen (and that's REALLY saying something.) He has all the talent in the world, but I'd never want a guy like that on my team.
  10. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 07:27 PM) The offense hasn't been looking that bad recently, but on the field, we've looked like a little league team. True. The offense and even the pitching to a degree (if you take into account the defense they've been dealing with) has been a bit better lately, which is why we're amazingly 8-5 since we started that road trip in Milwaukee. But the defense has been unacceptable.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 06:48 PM) 3 errors 3 unearned runs, and a balk... We had no business winning that game, that being said, what a great one to steal!!! That's one (correct) way of looking at it, but another (also correct) way of looking at is we should have won this game easily if not for the fact that this team can't execute even the simplest of plays on defense. It's a nice win, but this team still has serious issues all over the place.
  12. You know you're bad when you lose to a (entering the game) below .500 NL club at home, and they STILL have a clubhouse blowup DURING the game. Ugh!
  13. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 12:11 AM) Richard just goes into brainfart mode, Once a game he just does something stupid like trying to throw the ball to first and just ruins the inning from then on. I think Poreda is going to get his chance if Richard cant get over the hump. I don't think Richard has been awful persay, but I want Poreda in the rotation if he's going to be up with the big club, and might as well get him in there for Richard rather than Contreras since Count has pitched well lately and i'm not a fan of 4 lefties in the rotation.
  14. As complicated a human being as you will come across. The best way to explain Michael Jackson in my opinion is that he was a tortured genius, an example of why fame and fortune are often overrated and bring more insanity and lonliness than they do joys and happiness. This is a sad ending indeed.
  15. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 12:18 AM) I already said that.. But I get your point 101. I thought you meant Gibson is older coming out of college than Tyrus was, I was just pointing out that Tyrus now is still younger than Taj. My bad.
  16. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 12:16 AM) I dont know what the f*** Orlando just did. I thought Courtney looked like a budding star and Alston was a good complimentary guard for them when Nelson was there, and didnt completely kill them when he had to be the point when Nelson went down. But Carter is not going to make that team better. They really need a dominant, can score on his own wing player in my opinion, so in that sense Vince helps them out. But at the same time, this move hurts their depth (although a starting 5 of Nelson, Carter, Lewis, Dwight, and Hedo if he stays is REALLY strong) and it's a win now move. Making a win now move when your best player is 23 years old is a bit strange to me, but I can see why they did it. Also, I think it's pretty clear SVG did not like Alston, so that plays a role.
  17. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 12:01 AM) Same. Liked the Johnson pick, don't like the Gibson pick. Johnson is a very solid all around player, who can create his own shot, has a nice I.Q. for the game. Gibson is basically the much less athletic/OLDER version (might even have a worse offensive game as well) of Tyrus comming out of college. Gibson is actually older than Tyrus even now. If he can gain some weight and keep it on, he can help out on defense, but that's about it. The one thing this draft does is make the Bulls better on defense which I really wanted to see, so that's nice. I think Johnson is a really good talent overall though, having him might mean that Tyrus Thomas will be dealt too (we're stuck with Luol Deng at this point whether we like it or not.)
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 25, 2009 -> 11:45 PM) • Game drew just over 20,000 fans. Economy or our home record? The attendance in this series sucked because our ticket office made the very dumb decision of charging premium prices for a mid week series in June against an NL team immediately before the Cubs visit. The home series before the Cubs visit is going to be a tough draw as it is, but when you charge premium prices for it and it's in the middle of the week, that makes matters even worse. As for the game today, maybe this is just my blatant anti-Clayton bias, but I want Richard out of the rotation and Poreda taking his place. Poreda needs to get more work and where better than at the MLB level? Plus, Clayton is doing the Bartolo Colon thing these days, which is putting up a decent ERA which is deceptive in relationship to his poor performances. Other than that though, nice win today and nice series win.
  19. I actually like the James Johnson pick, but considering the likelihood Gordon will be gone, I'd have rather had Ellington with the other pick. That, and the fact that I think Taj Gibson is too skinny and too poor an offensive player to do much in the NBA.
  20. Thanks for nothing the last 3 days, Cubs.
  21. If we're within 2 to 4 games of 1st place, I'd be ok with it.
  22. QUOTE (Soxy @ Jun 22, 2009 -> 03:23 PM) But why is it funny? I just don't get it. I'm not insulted or anything by the JoAnn thing, it just kills me that all the dudes that do it think it's their original brilliant idea. I mean do the women that work at Michael's get asked if their name is Michael? I think they are trying to break the ice over the fact that they are males in a fabric store or something. I would guess that every guy who asks you that question is probably straight. That's the best explination I can come up with anyways.
  23. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Jun 22, 2009 -> 03:21 PM) I've had people ask me if I tan when outside for awhile. (I'm black) I have a female black friend who LOVES to sit outside and tan on days like this, and I'm just like what the hell??
  24. QUOTE (Soxy @ Jun 22, 2009 -> 02:37 PM) At a part time job at JoAnn fabrics men (always men, never women) think it's hilarious to call me JoAnn or ask if my name is JoAnn. Despite that fact that I am wearing a name tag, that does NOT say JoAnn. I gotta be honest, I would probably do the same thing and find it funny. Don't take it personally though, regardless of who the person working was, I would do that. It's the beauty of the male's tendency towards sophmoric humor, we don't mean it as personal, we're just childish.
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 22, 2009 -> 02:29 PM) His legacy is the needle. That's all I have to say about him. To me, his legacy is steroids, no World Series in 1994, and greed. Quite a legacy to have. Goodbye and good riddance, Mr. Fehr.
