  1. That's hilarious. Did that ever actually get on tv there before it was banned?
  2. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 02:24 PM) Maybe we'll acquire a real backup OF. We'd just send him to triple A anyways to make sure Wise has his roster spot probably.
  3. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 02:22 PM) Its funny we finally get TCQ back and people are more uspet over BA...... Everybody knew TCQ was going to be back. I also assumed our organization had an ounce of sense and would keep Anderson around and DFA Wise. Silly me to assume we'd make the best baseball decision and not appease to personal vendettas.
  4. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 02:17 PM) I don't get where people think Quentin and Wise will platoon. Ozzie officially would be retarded if he did that. I'm not gonna freak out the first time Wise starts in place of him, cause it would be against a right hander, but they aren't gonna platoon. It seems like they're worrying more about being able to get a clutch hit from the backup outfielder than good defense. It would be stupid, but having Wise on the roster at all is stupid. It wouldn't surprise me in the least to see Wise play in lots of games against righties. It would be immeasurably stupid, but having Wise on the roster at all is immeasurably stupid and we do that.
  5. Didn't Wise already get DFA'd once earlier this year and make it through waivers? There is no demand for him among any other teams, so the options excuse doesn't hold much water.
  6. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 02:10 PM) Wise? Anderson? What's the diff if Quentin, Podsednik, and Dye are playing everyday? Not really a big story here, in my opinion. It's the principle of our organization not keeping the best players on the 25 man roster which bothers people. Plus, Anderson has use as a defensive replacement when we're healthy, Wise has literally no use on this roster.
  7. The closest thing to hate in our division for me is the Twins, but I don't hate them, I just hate the Metrodome which will be gone after this season anyways. I certainly don't like the Twins, but for me to hate something or somebody, I have to not respect it either and I at least respect the Twins. The only teams I truly hate are the Red Sox and Cubs, and I hate them for the same reasons. Large, unintelligent, arrogant, annoying, and misinformed fanbases full of bandwagoners, old, piece of s*** ballparks that people still love for some strange reason, and a superiority complex. The Red Sox at least have a bit of a right to a superiority complex since they have two very recent World Championships and play great baseball every year in a tough, tough division, but Cubs fans have this complex despite being one of the more pathetic franchises in sports in terms of where it matters (and nobody will convince me otherwise about a group that hasn't won a World Title in 101 years).
  8. I actually think Ozzie has had a pretty good season so far, but his use of Poreda this year has been awful, and the spot he put him in today was simply stupid and impossible to defend. Whoever made the decision to bring Poreda up clearly made a bad decision too, because he should either be in our rotation or in the minor leagues in the rotation getting work. The situation we have him in right now will do him no good. Overall though, I think it would be VERY difficult to make a case for Ozzie Guillen not being an above average manager. Every teams fanbase has it's people who nitpick and hate their manager, and ours is no different.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 07:59 AM) Sometimes 1+1=2 Ozzie doesn't think he is ready, and Kenny has already tried to trade him. There is very little doubt in my mind Poreda will be moved for something at the deadline, or over the winter. Couldn't disagree more. Just because a talented kid you drafted a mere 25 months ago isn't ready in the opinion of those who matter to pitch in the major leagues doesn't mean he is going to get dealt.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 08:44 PM) It's amazing how bad the Nationals are. It's the perfect team for the Cubs to start the 2nd half against. Yeah, and they get to beat them one more time before heading back to the reality of being a .500 team. I honestly can't picture any NL Central team making the playoffs though, because they are all horrible. Seems like a perfect situation for the Astros to steal the thing because that would make no sense at all. Randy Wells' massive regression to the means that is long overdue may have started tonight though. He'll hurt them down the stretch as the numbers catch up with him.
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 11:13 PM) The back-and-forth between Dualerio and Scrappy McHustle was the interesting part. Daulerio said thanks for sending the video, putting it back on Scrappy(as if he were the source of the problem), and Scrappy had a good response to that. The rest of the comments are pretty atypical I agree, but the back and forth between those two stood out to me. The site has taken a major downhilll turn since Leitch left, which is why I went from an everyday reader to a very occasional checker outer of that site. But I never was a big fan of the comments. Some people found them funny, I just found them sad.
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 07:03 PM) There is an interesting discussion going on at Deadspin under the site owners (Daulerio) post regarding how this is spinning out of control. There are some commenters that are calling him out bigtime http://deadspin.com/5317439/sometimes-this...e-place-to-live I enjoy the humerous content of that site (outside of the silly obsession with the hot, but overrated, Erin Andrews), but the actual commenters there are pretty lame. They meet all the stereotypes you hear about people who post at sports blogs.
  13. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 06:38 PM) I think he meant Jerry will be fired again. Oh yeah, my bad, I'm not very smart at times. At least Jerry has excuses this year like injuries and the Phillies being the defending champs though. But I agree he'll be gone, Minaya needs to find a scapegoat to overshadow the fact he's doing a poor job.
  14. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 06:23 PM) This will be a repeat in New York this season. This is probably a stupid question, but do you mean Ozzie is going to get fired?
  15. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 06:13 PM) I hadn't heard of any of this until just now reading this thread. It took me 20 seconds to find the video in question. After watching about a minute, I'm not sure why they are suing. While we obviously know it is her now, but if they came out strong denying it, this all goes away in a few days, no one cares about a creepy, grainy video. Personally, I think that is a wrong move by her PR and legal team. I completely agree with this. EA is hot, but at the end of the day, she's just a hot blonde with big boobs. There are many of those in this country too, so to deny it was her would have been very easy and probably would have worked.
  16. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 06:00 PM) Seniorita muy caliente. Yeah, but taping her naked without consent through a peep hole is just creepy. If she poses in playboy or something, fine, but what is going on now is just not cool.
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 05:54 PM) Didn't the Sox win the game Jose Paniagua was featured? Hawk still talks about it. While I really wonder if his outing had anything really to do with the Twins overtaking the White Sox in 2003, if your guys are starting to get hit around, it has to be concerning. It may be they just had 4 days off and were anticipating it beforehand, and are trying to get their feet under them afterward. I hope it is because the Sox can't win if Linebrink, Thornton and Jenks struggle for very long. Yes we did win the Paniagua game. The idea that game had any impact on the 2003 race is one of the great mythys in recent White Sox memory too. It was an embedded excuse Hawk threw out there right away, and people bought it. We lost the division that year because that team underachieved, which is also why Jerry Manuel was fired.
  18. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 05:52 PM) Beckham is arguably our best hitter, right now. Amazing from a guy who has scouts on his ass the minute that 0-20 was his primary offensive statistic. As Hawk says "scouts are like players, there are good ones, ok ones, and bad ones".
  19. QUOTE (Karko's Throat Skin @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 05:48 PM) Stan Bahnse...I agree. Its a weird thought process. But I feel its better to get the bad outings out of the way in blowouts or games we have a decent lead in the 9th. Baseball is a game of averages and might as well get the bad ones when we can handle them. I actually agree with this too in general, which is why what the bullpen did last night (with the exception of the homer Linebrink gave up, since he has some issues and it cut the lead to only 1) didn't bother me because the numbers always eventually catch up with you. But it was too close today for that crap. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 05:50 PM) 5-0 now on Fox Saturday Baseball. If it means a win, I'll take Dick Stockton's horrible play by play. Bobby's starting to worry me a little bit. But then again, he's always bad against the O's. Yeah at least Bobby did finish it today, his struggles against Baltimore are odd though. As for Dick Stockton, I think I read somewhere recently that the White Sox have a really good record in games where he broadcasts and the Cubs have a terrible record (including two playoff sweeps) in games he does. Weird.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 05:42 PM) 1.5. Closest we have been since May 3rd. We need to finish off the sweep tomorrow and take advantage of our last poor opponent for a while.
  21. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 05:44 PM) This may sound weird, but in a way, I kind of like it when the bullpen falters and we win anyway. It makes me thinks they'll perform better next time. We're on our way, baby! Our bullpen has been wobbling a bit recently, and the process started at almost the same time it did last year in that regard, which is why i'm concerned. The one difference though is the wobble started last year due to Bobby getting hurt, and right now everybody is healthy and we did add an arm in Pena as well, so hopefully this is just a temporary dry spell like every bullpen goes through, and not a full flegded disaster like the bullpen in the 2nd half was last year at times.
  22. Nice job Buehrle, Bacon and Thome were both very good as well, and we won. Other than that, I'd like to try and forget about today because we did a lot of things wrong, gave away a lot of runs we should have scored, and i'm a bit worried about our bullpen at the moment. But 1.5 back is as close as we've been since May 3rd, so I will take it.
  23. Sources say Kalapse was sighted in today's game thread. Call off the search.
  24. This Beckham character might be a decent little hitter someday.
  25. Wise and Richard will be gone soon. I am going to lay off the stating the obvious ripping on these two until August 1st. If Richard is still in the rotation on August 1st and Wise still on the roster that day, however, it would be pretty maddening, and I have a hard time believing this team can make the playoffs if those two play the roles they currently are the last 2 months of the season.
