  1. Trading Brandon Allen away wasn't the mistake IMO. Players are traded, even good ones, and especially when they are still just prospects. The mistake was trading him away when all we got in return was a crappy middle reliever who everybody knew was a crappy middle reliever the day the trade was made. Regardless of if Allen makes it big, or if he ends up like most prospects we trade and doesn't do well in the major leagues, this was a stupid trade. If he makes it, it goes from being stupid to being stupid and very harmful.
  2. Brady is definitely WAY overrated. He had maybe the best season of all time by a QB in 2007, and nobody can take that away from him (well, except for the fact his team choked in the Super Bowl and only scored 14 points). But look at his numbers other than 2007, which includes 6 full seasons, and he's definitely nowhere near in the class with the great hall of famers he's mentioned with. Very good QB (and with 3 rings of course), but not as good as people make him out to be.
  3. That's not an error, but it's another baserunner on a play which should have been an out.
  4. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 12:34 PM) Can we give Thome a weekend off to gather his thoughts. The offense, bullpen, coaching staff, and defense could all use a weekend off to gather their thoughts. We're great other than those minor problems.
  5. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 12:31 PM) I really wouldn't mind seeing Pods get a 1 year deal next year to leadoff and play in LF, shifting Q to RF. The OF would finally be pretty solid. You should be happy then, considering that is probably what is going to happen.
  6. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 12:28 PM) or maybe even any non-Brian Anderson thread... Moment of silence for Brian Anderson please. Thank you.
  7. QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 12:28 PM) He's slugging .457, and he gets to more stuff in the field than Getz. Nix and Getz are both absolutely awful fielders, but in different ways. Nix gets to a lot, but drops the ball constantly, whereas Getz generally catches the ball, but never gets to it. Nice pitching, Jose. Had to throw an extra 10 to 12 pitches probably because of the error though.
  8. QUOTE (PlunketChris @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 12:25 PM) Depending on the makeup of the rest of the team, I like Nix in the lineup somewhere. But if you need Getz as your leadoff type because it's not coming from anywhere else, then Getz is the 2B I like Nix's bat still, but he can't play defense and his bat isn't good enough to DH. Nice pitch again to get A-Rod.
  9. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 12:24 PM) Blaming the ump there is kind of like Pitino blaming the media. If you dont commit the initial mistake, none of the other baggage piles on. OK it's like that but w/o the group sex. That's the first time i've seen group sex brought up in a game thread.
  10. Jose still has the stuff to be a good pitcher, you see it when he throws a high fastball by somebody at 93 or 94 as he does sometimes or when he gets somebody on a good forkball like he did Teixeira there. Just doesn't have the control to do it regularly anymore.
  11. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 12:22 PM) Terrible call by the 2B ump there. It was definitely a missed call but CATCH THE BALL NIX! If he catches the ball, not only is there no problem here, but we might get a double play.
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 08:24 AM) "Are you....." pissed? yes Annoyed? very much so disappointed? words cannot describe angry? getting there still watching? unfortunately my fan-dom makes me a glutton for punishment bring on September I'm still watching (although I took a break for a few games during the Red Sox series because I couldn't handle watching the stupid mistakes, blown chances, and underachievement anymore, needed a few days off before coming back), but I also realize this team is finished. You can do both, and the one good thing about realizing we're done is the losses simply suck really badly right now, instead of outright hurting.
  13. I don't understand how this thread is so long. Walker is a poor hitting coach and hasn't really done his job particularly well in quite a while. But for some unexplainable reason, the Sox haven't got rid of him. We've need an upgrade at his job position for years, yet haven't done it, so what makes you think we will fire him now?
  14. How could anybody NOT be out at this point? Many of us have said for a long time now that all of those blown games this season would catch up to us on this roadtrip, where a disasterious record over the 11 games would probably kill our season. And that's exactly what is happening. We're just not a good team, not even good enough to win this division.
  15. I don't know a lot about Mr. Kennedy. But if this is true, wow.
  16. How can you NOT love Milton Bradley? Barely slugging at a .400 clip (actually might be back under .400 after today), has completely destroyed the Cubs locker room, saying he just wants to play 9 innings and go home, calling Cubs fans racist, and today calling out guys like Lee and Soto for "giving politically correct answers". What an absolutely great guy, love him.
  17. QUOTE (rangercal @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 10:29 PM) no You always seem to disagree with my posts. I give you credit though, you always come out, disagree, give no reasons why, and are wrong. So you're consistent. Take a look at the difference in wide receivers between Cutler and Rivers (especially last year), take off the Bears/Cutler beer goggles, and then try again.
  18. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Aug 26, 2009 -> 10:58 PM) what to do with your attitude? now thats the real question. Who, mine? Oh I'm sorry, you're right. This team is great, going to do big things! And there is no need to worry about a guy who is a HUGE part of our future and has tried to fast track back from an ankle injury and got hit in the elbow by a line drive the other day. Why worry, things are just wonderful! QUOTE (rangercal @ Aug 26, 2009 -> 02:42 AM) anyone who voted to "shut him down" must have not been a sox fan at the time of the white flag trade and felt the pain of the organization quitting on a season. What the hell? How is that even comparable when we will have Peavy for a few years after this? Plus, it's pretty clear this team is giving up on the season (well that, and they suck) so why shouldn't we?
  19. CNN has it as breaking news, can't find a link yet. RIP.
  20. People can argue until they are blue in the face, but the chief is dead and not coming back, no matter what is said. In addition, getting other mascots (like FSU) taken away would be a waste of time seeing as the chief would still be dead even if that occurs. I have always like U of I and their athletic teams and thought the chief was a cool mascot, but it's over no matter how anybody feels.
  21. QUOTE (kev211 @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 10:20 PM) Yeah because 6ish starts at the end of the season is really going to take a toll on his arm you know considering he hasn't pitched most of the season. It's his ankle, and it's healed. There is not 1 reason to shut Peavy down. Not one huh? Every arm only has so many pitches in it, and Peavy is no exception. Considering that, where we are as a team and in the standings, and how long and expensive Peavy's contract is, I can see plenty of reasons to keep those half a dozen or so starts worth of pitches from being thrown.
  22. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 06:23 PM) Cutler has a chance to be a top 5 QB if he gets more weapons. He had more weapons than Rivers in Denver (even when LT was healthy and great, let alone when he wasn't last year), and Rivers was still a better QB. Moving to Chicago, where his weapons are inferior to what he has had in the past, won't help.
  23. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 09:26 PM) Might as well trade him right now.....as soon as he throws a pitch thats not a strike, you'll start hearing "fans" say he sucks and is worthless. Umm no....Jake is probably our best pitcher. The whole idea here is to save him some innings because of how good and important he is, seeing as this season is a lost cause.
  24. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 09:08 PM) What's the precaution for? He is coming back from an ankle injury that has fully healed. We've been rushing him back to a certain degree. He'd have probably been shut down for the year if he were still in San Diego, and considering how important he is to the future, I think shutting him down and keeping a few extra innings that won't matter off his arm wouldn't be the worst thing.
  25. Go ahead and vote. I say yes, seeing as this season is just about a lost cause. No need to rush one of the most important future cogs to this team back when we're .500, can't stay out of our own way, and are dangerously close to falling out of the race if we haven't already.
