  1. Have at it. And yes, I know he won't be fired after this season.
  2. I think just about everybody realized this road trip would kill us if we even were in the race until it started. This team just isn't good. It's a shame we went the wrong way with the moves we made in July and August (although I am not against the Peavy move).
  3. Why are people so upset? This team hasn't been trying for a while now, it's been clear we weren't going to be a playoff team for a while now, to the point where some pople still thought we should have traded AWAY veterans at the deadline. The only reason we got our record to a respectable level for a while was we beat up on the national league. With the exception of that fluke homestand against the Angels and Yankees, this team hasn't shown any capability of anything resembling excellence.
  4. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 02:52 PM) ...And people told me that Masset was nothing special last year when I said I didn't like how we gave up Masset in the Griffey deal. And he's still nothing special. His numbers in June, July, and now August have been on the climb, and that will likely continue. He just got off to a hot start pitching in the inferior league.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 02:50 PM) 4 guys who were average or better? That doesn't seem terrible to me. That seems about average. Perry played only 200 games, and Eric Soderholm as your 3rd best 3rd basemen in a span of almost half a century? That's not good at all.
  6. Masset hasn't been very good for a while now, he just got off to such a hot start that his numbers look good. Aardsma had trouble with a few organizations and is just having a career year, and MacDougal is pitching in meaningless games for an NL team. Plus, they are all bullpen arms, so they could just as easily suck next year. Bullpen pitches are whack jobs, I can't rip on us for having a few doing well that we let go.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 02:36 PM) KW really doesn't have a lot to show right now for his moves the last two years. Nobody does. We just have to hope the future is as bright as it appears in some regards. Picking up the Rios contract will hurt in the long term though, and we are going to have some holes to fill as we phase out the old f***s over the next couple of years.
  8. Randy Williams regressing to the means, Linebrink sucks. Neither is a surprise.
  9. Detroit scores 3 to go up 4-3 headed to the 9th. We're already dead, but losing another game of course just makes us even more dead.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 02:04 PM) Ugh, it's so frustrating we tanked after the trade deadline. We could have gotten rid of Dye and Dotel. People thought I was crazy, but I still thought even up to and on July 31st that we should have traded some veterans away. This was the scenario I thought, and feared, would happen.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 02:01 PM) I think you mentioned this the other day, but this team has quit. Any other manager would be on the hot seat. Hell, 2007 might have been more entertaining than this season. We still don't have a walkoff homer this year. I think Ozzie will be on the hotseat next year. It's pretty ridiculous he isn't this year, but I think he's getting a pass since the roster has really had a lot of overturn on it during the course of the season.
  12. Would we dare let Garcia come back in 2010 and compete for the 5th starters spot if he continues to pitch reasonably well?
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 01:52 PM) This Mets team is so unbelievably bad. The Cubs have an extremely easy schedule the next two weeks, so look for them to get back into the mix for the Wild Card. Possibly, but they aren't going to win the Wild Card. They have too many teams they have to play too many games better than, and no matter how easy their schedule is, the Cubs are still a bad baseball team.
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 01:46 PM) Wow, these guys are absolutely horrific. Not only do Dye/Thome/Konerko suck, but we can add Quentin and Beckham to that group. These guys just flat-out suck. They have either quit, or the entire offense has hit a slump at the same time. And I don't believe in coincidences like that.
  15. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 01:38 PM) <!--quoteo(post=1999773:date=Aug 30, 2009 -> 01:21 PM:name=whitesoxfan101)-->QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 01:21 PM) <!--quotec-->That's not a very good statement about the 3rd basemen we've had in your time as a fan (and I know you have been a Sox fan for quite a while). It's definitely an indictment on the team's inability to fill the 3B position with a competent everyday player. Playing for the Sox from 1965 to 2009, played 70% of games at 3B, requiring at least 100 G, sorted by greatest OPS+: (100 = league average) OPS+ GAMES 1. 117 1254 Robin Ventura 2. 115 976 Bill Melton 3. 114 329 Eric Solderholm 4. 101 201 Herbert Perry 5. 93 798 Joe Crede 6. 90 410 Vance Law 7. 85 196 Josh Fields Wow, I'd imagine that has to be among the worst in baseball in that timespan (although a lot of new teams have been added since 1965, but you get my point).
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 01:22 PM) I just wish one person would say if the elbow issue for Peavy is related to getting hit by the line drive. Of course it is.
  17. QUOTE (Tex @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 09:51 AM) He was so clutch down the line in 2005. I hope he gives it every shot he has left before retiring and can walk away knowing he gave it his best. At his prime, I'd place him with Robin as the best 3rd baseman in my time as a fan. That's not a very good statement about the 3rd basemen we've had in your time as a fan (and I know you have been a Sox fan for quite a while).
  18. Anybody want to re vote in my poll? Like I said, there is no point in pitching Peavy this year. Just get him ready for 2010. The Mitchell injury is not relevant at all unless it's somehow way more serious than it sounds, it's late in the minor league season anyway and it's not like he's anywhere near ready to be in Chicago anyways.
  19. QUOTE (The Baconator @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 01:14 PM) Looked like Gordo had a beat on that the whole way, wonder what happened... He realized what team he played for, and as a rookie still trying to fit in, missed the ball.
  20. Dick Cheney still bitter that laws exist, blames democrats for it. That's not the actual headline, but it probably should be.
  21. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 06:38 PM) We need to retire his number, honestly. I don't know about that, but he should be honored in some way after he retires.
  22. This is a fair question to ask I think at this point. I personally am not sure, simply because it's hard to distinguish if they have quit or if they are actually just this bad of a team. Either way, it's been made clear once again this year that you can't rebuild and be a winning, playoff type team at the same time.
  23. Today's performance should give this thread a boost. One hit against Sergio Mitre and Chad Gaudin at the best launching pad in baseball is not very good. Although, at the same time, I think this team has just quit in general, which goes far beyond the hitting coach.
  24. Ozzie has done an AWFUL job this year. I think it's fair to give him 2010 though, but if we see a team next year who is as fundamentally braindead, prone to underachieving, and poorly managed as this one, Ozzie should certainly be on the hotseat.
