  1. The holier than thou attitude people have taken with Michael Vick is at best laughable, and more realistically hypocritical. I love dogs, but there are people in the NFL (and all over sports) who have done worse things than Michael Vick, and good people (like Tony Dungy) have said he legitimately seems remorseful, and i'm a big believer in second chances (not 3rd, 4th, etc, but 2nd chances yes).
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 10:46 AM) The Cubs are also missing 2/5 of their starting rotation right now. I think the Cubs biggest problem right now is they suck. They can beat really bad teams (especially at home) which is why they are in shouting distance since they're an NL team, but really, the Cubs are a bad team.
  3. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 06:31 PM) Exactly. Doesn't anyone remember last August and September with our 4 starters having the innings piled on them? I trust we're not going to go to a 4 man rotation again. The organization isn't dumb enough to make that mistake again after it nearly cost us a playoff spot last season, especially considering our sudden long term minded general manager.
  4. The Rios and Peavy moves are going to help us immeasurably in 2010 and beyond, but as for 2009, we're still just a .500 team who is 3 games out of first. We're really not good enough to fall much further than 3 games out in mid August or later and come back, so we better win some games soon.
  5. Barring injury, it is numerically impossible for Wise to last until September 1st. Next time we need a 5th starter, he'll be gone and Ozzie will have to find a new AA calibur player to love.
  6. No way in hell I would have Hudson up yet. I think we're kind of stuck with Contreras right now and have to hope he gets hot (ie finds his control) again. I'm all for Torres as the #5 right now though.
  7. QUOTE (almagest @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 11:17 PM) The great Jarrod Washburn wasn't so great today. Looks like the media praise for this deal was perhaps a bit short-sighted. Media praise for rental pitcher trades at the deadline tends to be over the top. Unless the pitcher is absolutely out of his mind good like C.C. was for Milwaukee last year, such trades tend to not have a huge impact since the pitcher only makes 10 to 12 starts, and usually won't help you win more than an extra 1 to 3 games (which is important, but not completely earth shattering). Combine that with the fact that Washburn has had an absolutely fluke year and is due for a regression to the means (perhaps that started last night), and maybe this trade isn't as important as people think. And as a defense for our fanbase, the reason I think most people are so excited about Peavy is we'll have him for years to come. Big difference between a rental and that.
  8. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 10:47 PM) Floyd should be absolutely deadly against this free-swinging Angels team. As it usually is with Gavin, it will probably come down to if he gets the curveball over, and I see little in between possibility tomorrow. If Gavin is good, he'll probably be great, and if he's not good, he'll probably get demolished. Let's hope it's the former.
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 10:34 PM) Pods ... what a season. Who'd a thunk it when we acquired him and so many of us were pissed. Great great walkoff win. Jose ... is he gonna see the mound again? What was that?? I don't know what the heck he was doing to answer your question, but with the Peavy trade, we're stuck with Jose out there until at least when Jake gets back, so we're just going to have to hope he tosses a few good games like he did during that hot stretch he had. The bullpen (D.J. in particular) was absolutely sensational tonight though, they are the biggest reason we won this game. Beckham was himself as well, and what a huge hit again by Pods (wasn't that his 3rd walkoff hit this season? Amazing.) The Angels are just on fire right now similar to the Yankees as they headed into town for the previous series, if we can win this series it would be fantastic.
  10. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 02:47 AM) Yep, that is exactly what was said b/c I said it. And I wish I never had b/c this "Slayer" s*** went too far. One of my buddies who goes to Georgia said that, but he was definitely exaggerating. I mean, my buddy said he was always with girls that were hot, but saying that he "slays puss like no other" was definitely something that I repeated even if it's not true. I can't believe something I started has gotten to where Beckham now knows about it. I feel bad b/c, really, no guy wants that reputation even if it is true. You can't? Man, this is the internet. Anything that anybody says could blow up, get popular, and come full circle by being told to the person which the comment is based upon, sometimes for no reason. Gotta know that before you say anything.
  11. She must read/post on this board, because I have never seen "Slayer" used as a nickname for Beckham except around here. Now that we have that out in the open, God love Gordon because he's going to be a great player and is already perhaps the best interview on our team, but when it comes to his response to the Slayer question, he's full of s***.
  12. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 11:01 PM) Jenks ain't gettin traded. Boy I hope you're wrong. It would be nice to trade him now while he has a little trade value left. By this winter, even that might be gone. And i'm not buying the family reasons nonsense either, just like I don't buy that's why Hawk missed the game in Cincinnati. "Family reasons"=our BS excuse when something is up.
  13. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 10:42 AM) I'd rather be up heading into Minnesota. I would too, but a split this weekend would keep us in very good shape in my opinion. I am tired of us making excuses in Minnesota, I'd rather see us go up there and not be afraid and win a f***ing series for once.
  14. Just split the doubleheader today and split the 4 game series. If we get out of the war zone that is Detroit tied for first place and with all of our players in tact, I will be happy.
  15. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 09:37 AM) About 4-5 years ago someone in San Diego (don't remember if it was a Padre or the opposition) took a no-no into the 8th or 9th and I think it might have even been Ben Davis (could even be 6 or 7 years ago) who bunted and messed up the no-hitter and there was a huge out-cry amongst baseball players regarding it. I'll try to dig up the details but all I know is if I'm on the opposition I do everything I can to prevent getting no-hit. I wouldn't want to get no-hit, no way. Plus that way, you fully earn that no-hitter when you throw it. That was current Cubs announcers Bob Brenly who got pissed about the bunt, and he could not have possibly been more wrong. That bunt single brought the tying run to the plate (and the next guy walked, bringing the go ahead run to the plate). The Padres were trying to win a game (the teams were tied for 1st place entering that game according to b-r), so to get all in a tizzy over that bunt was ignorant in my opinion. If you don't want them bunting but rather want them "respecting the game", build a bigger lead.
  16. QUOTE (Felix @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 12:20 AM) A look at the Phillies clubhouse as they were watching the game: Ahh that is good stuff.
  17. Selfishly, I hope Mark plays past 2011 and even beyond, because to me he's a guy that could pitch into his 40's and build a no doubt hall of fame resume. Such a great pitcher and such a likable guy, it was a pure joy to watch him throw a perfect game today. The most exciting non September/October Sox game I have ever seen by far.
  18. I personally would not boo Bobby Jenks, even despite being as concerned about him as anybody on this board. I'm not a big proponent of booing players on my own team, however I would not pass judgement on somebody else who does boo a player because that's their right as a paying customer. I just don't agree with them.
  19. QUOTE (SEALgep @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 05:32 AM) Yes "If you call out Ozzie, you're a dickhead". That's great support for your argument.
  20. I don't think you can keep Jim and Jermaine after this season. I was a proponent of keeping JD as a DH, but Jim continues to produce big time, and he's a left handed bat. I think we should keep one of them, but the question is, which one? It's a very difficult decision, and part of what makes it difficult is wondering how long either (or both) of them can mantain current production levels.
  21. QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jul 22, 2009 -> 05:57 PM) Some guy in Jim Callis' chat said the Sox and Boston discussed a Beckham for Buchholz trade, but didn't have a source and I can't find it anywhere so take it for what it's worth. I wouldn't trade Beckham for Buchholz, but I would certainly be willing to trade Ramirez for him if Boston was interested. Any rumor involving Beckham being traded is BS in my opinion, and especially one like that.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 22, 2009 -> 02:28 PM) Getz has a .947 OPS in July. Which gives him more and more value for when we trade him this winter IMO. I would be absolutely floored if we keep Beckham at 3rd after this season.
  23. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 22, 2009 -> 08:13 AM) How bad did you f*** up Ehh pretty bad, and I already know what the message is going to say. But it was worth the old college try in a surely failed effort to save the friendship.
