  1. Accountability isn't one of the strengths of this organization right now.
  2. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Sep 23, 2009 -> 07:09 PM) I'd love him as the DH but he's about on par with Dye in the outfield so I want none of that. I don't have any metrics in front of me, but I think Abreu is actually significantly worse in the OF than Dye even is. I think I read Abreu is having one of the worst defensive season ever recorded in RF. So if he is signed, that's just to be DH and a real 3rd starting OF would be needed.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 23, 2009 -> 07:05 PM) I really think Abreu will be the FA signing this offseason and play right field. Abreu in RF and Pods in LF would be one of the 5 worst defensive OF's in baseball even with Rios out there, and would certainly be the worst corner OF defensive combo in the major leagues.
  4. QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Sep 20, 2009 -> 01:26 AM) Every "expert" picked FSU to get blown out by BYU. I was a tiny bit confident just because I thought we'd out athlete them, but I'm just sayin'. People picking BYU haven't actually watched them much. They can't handle elite athletes (the Oklahoma game was a perfect storm of flukes, most noteable of which was Bradford getting hurt) and we saw that exposed against Florida State. TCU will beat them later this year too, and if they play a team with elite athletes in a bowl, they'll lose again.
  5. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Sep 20, 2009 -> 10:47 PM) The Bears beat the defending champs and lose a week before by 6 points even with 4 turnovers, and you give them no credit. Wow, are you TerraTor from TalkBears? The Vikings have beat 2 teams that can be beaten by a squad constructed of people in my neighborhood, and you're already declaring them the favorites. Like I said, the Bears will be 3-1 going into the bye, and the Falcons the week after aren't having an eye-popping year by any means either. I give them credit for winning today, but a victory over a good team doesn't change the fact that there are some major problems that need to be fixed (good news is the biggest among the problems after week 1 was Cutler/Cutler and the receivers chemistry, which was obviously good today). And yes, I think the Vikings, who were better than the Bears last year and have a pretty similar team to what they had last year except for adding Brett Favre and Percy Harvin, are the favorites. What a crazy concept that is.
  6. I still don't think the Bears are very good, and the Vikings now appear a strong favorite to win the North (although admittedly they have beaten 2 piles of crap so far). But Cutler was very good today (they don't win that game with Orton obviously, and it was nice to see Cutler actually have a pick free game), and the Packers performance makes me think this division might not be as tough as I thought. But the Bears still are going nowhere if they don't find a run game, and the loss last week was still atrocious. If you are expecting fans who dare *gasp* cast a critical eye on their team to all of a sudden have no concerns because of a win that was aided in large part by their opponent, you are sadly mistaken. Bears are in a pretty good position if they can win next week though (and Hasselbeck might be out) because the schedule is cupcake city after that.
  7. For all the things Bradley has done this year, they suspend him for actually saying accurate things about their fans and organization. And now he'll be dumped for absolutely nothing in return this winter. Typical Cubs.
  8. You have to think Barack will end up making it out there.
  9. QUOTE (zenryan @ Sep 19, 2009 -> 10:09 PM) love seeing non BCS schools lose when they are trying to take a BCS spot. All BYU and Utah losing today did (and nobody should have been surprised at either of those results, outside of Florida State's final point total) is make it that Boise State will be in a BCS game when they go undefeated. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Sep 19, 2009 -> 11:04 PM) The game was an absolute mess, but in what was supposed to be a down year, Texas Tech will compete for the Big 12 title again this year, I'm excited as hell. At the very least, Tech (barring a weird 3 way tie that goes their way) will need to win out in league play and have Texas lose twice to make the Big 12 Championship Game. And considering neither of those is going to happen, I can't consider them a legit Big 12 title contender. They have a better team than I thought they would though.
  10. QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 19, 2009 -> 03:39 PM) I've been seeing Marcus Lewis in the box scrores this year. That's cool. Led the team in catches and yards today, and he had 2 or 3 huge catches on 3rd down if memory serves me.
  11. Man I am the village idiot today, had a shot to go to NIU vs. Purdue for very little money and decided not to because I've had a long week and didn't want to wake up at 6 in the morning and drive all the way down. What a win for us though, I was a little worried about this one with how Purdue looked their first two games, but we'll take the 335 thousand dollars Purdue gave us to beat them on their field and be happy with the biggest win the program has had in probably 4 years.
  12. The term quit would also apply to the Cubs now I think. I still find the White Sox quitting more appaling though, since we actually had a shot at the playoffs had we played reasonably well, whereas the same can't be said for the Cubs.
  13. QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 16, 2009 -> 04:29 PM) Saw Prater changes his commitment to USC to a soft verbal. Prater's verbal is irrelevant, as most verbals are nowadays. His recruitment will go all the way down to signing day. A verbal is nothing more than a statement of who your current leader is nowadays.
  14. I don't get how somebody can point to the schedule and say the Bears are fine. The Packers and Vikings, who are both better teams than the Bears, are playing basically the same schedule. If you aren't concerned about the Bears right now, than you're guilty of what we make fun of Cubs fans for having so much, which is blind optimism. Yeah it's only one loss last week, but this is the NFL and you only play 16 games, so every game is vital.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 17, 2009 -> 10:24 PM) I don't think you can say we should never bunt. Occasionally, like in an extra inning game when you are the home team and the guy gets a lead off hit, bunting is in order. Or usually in order. I mean you get him to second and whack a single. But we more often than not can't put down a f***ing bunt. How can you argue that a bunt isn't called for in extra innings sometimes?? Oh there are very special occasions where a bunt is needed. But those are rare, and the idea of "more bunting" is not wise.
  16. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Sep 17, 2009 -> 05:00 PM) I think they'll be 2-1. It's an emotional game on Sunday being the first home game, and the Seahawks are gonna be without their LT, C, and #1 CB. I cannot envision any scenario in which they win both games, and I think it would be a surprise if they win either of them.
  17. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Sep 17, 2009 -> 02:29 PM) Illinois LB Martez Wilson out for the year That sucks for an already bad defense (although Tez hasn't really proven anything yet). The U appears to be "back" to a certain degree, looked great tonight. We will find out just how "back" they are in their next two games, because they'll need a win in Blacksburg next Saturday if they have ACC Title game hopes. Wouldn't surprise me if they win at least one of the next two between that one and vs. Oklahoma though, and they are in for a big season if that happens. They don't really have the big play threats at receiver yet, but with Harris playing as he is, maybe they don't need them.
  18. And of all the things to call posters a jackass for, not believing in bunting? Bunting might be the dumbest, most jackass tactic still consistently used in baseball.
  19. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 17, 2009 -> 08:52 PM) How are 2003 Konerko and 2009 Rios not similar? Both had seasons that were completely outliers to their normal stats. I know you werent here in 2002, but most people wanted to give away Konerko for free on this board. Konerko had a good second half that year, and was a bit more proven of a player at that point than Rios, and had nowhere near as bad a contract, and we didn't volunteer to take his awful contract that he didn't even have.
  20. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 17, 2009 -> 08:45 PM) lol KW and Co arent going to give away Rios. Did they trade Konerko after 2003? No. Im sure that they are frustrated that Rios didnt immediately turn it around, but Im also pretty sure that they knew this was going to take more time than 2 months. How long did it take for Contreras to turn it around? His first season with the Sox he had a 5.3 era. His next season was 3.6 era. 2003 Konerko and 2009 Rios aren't even remotely comparable, other than they both sucked.
  21. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Sep 17, 2009 -> 08:32 PM) Any chance Rios gets traded this offseason? Rios is in Soriano territory right now. I mean, his contract is nowhere near as expensive, but it's long and nobody would ever be stupid enough to take it (well, except us of course).
  22. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 17, 2009 -> 11:40 AM) I'm all for fundamentals. Some of you stat jackasses can get ridiculous about the giving up outs part of the game. Sometimes it just makes sense and it can push things and help get the offense rolling. So Ozzie, I'm all for it!!! And I certainly hope Buddy Ball down in the minors is preaching all of the fundamentals. Fundamentals and giving away out for free are totally different. Fundamentals in the AL are going 1st to 3rd on singles, getting the runner home from 3rd with one out, only stealing when there is a very high chance of success, playing sound defense. Giving away outs for free is fundamentally stupid in our league except in special situations, no matter how much some people think it's helpful. And I played baseball for a long team, before you call me a "jackass" for saying this.
  23. I believe more and more everyday that the Rios move will be looked back upon as one of the 3 worst personnel moves in White Sox history someday.
  24. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 17, 2009 -> 08:21 PM) on the bright side - as pissed off as we are, times that by 10 for Kenny Williams. He will make changes. The Jenks blown saves are worth it if he's gone after this year.
  25. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 17, 2009 -> 08:19 PM) JD looks like one of the horses pulling the carriage in downtown Chicago when he is chasing a ball in the gap. Dye looks like one of those horses that needs to be shot and put out of it's misery.
