QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 08:23 AM) This story gets more an more f***ed up http://www.cnn.com/2008/CRIME/08/02/canada...g.ap/index.html The guy was eating him after he decapitated him. And he did it in plain view of everyone. W. T. F!?!?!?!!? It's like the guy had been holding in some kind of crazy anger his whole life, and just let it all snap out at one time. Freaking disturbing stuff.

QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 05:30 PM) I agree there's no reason to give up on the team. But there are plenty of legitimate reasons why this team might not make the playoffs. Giving up on the team and being of the opinion that the team won't win the division are two completely different things. It's good to see somebody else understands this.

The Angles blew a 5-0 lead and saw a 9-8 lead in the middle of the 8th turn into a 14-8 deficit after 8 and loss by the same score to the Yankees. The Angels made four errors that led to 9 unearned runs. Jose Arredondo gave up 4 runs, and Scot Shields gave up 5, but both saw their ERA's go down because none of the runs were earned. That's hard to do.

What the hell happened to our pitching/defense?
whitesoxfan101 replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I figured the galling numbers needed to be updated. Since the July 7th off day, the Sox are now 10-12. The Sox have allowed 7, 6, 4, 7, 7, 12, 5, 9, 8, 6, 2, 8, 5, 6, 6, 7, 6, 3, 10, 2, 9, and 14 runs. That is 149 runs in 22 games, 6.77 runs per game. The Sox have also made 24 errors in those 22 games. Want to know why we are in 2nd place? Look no further. All we can hope is a contributing factor to this is the fact that 16 of those 22 games were on the road, whereas on the flipside, 16 of our next 19 are at home. Because if that's not the problem, then we've got a big problem. -
I'll keep this short and sweet. We earned our way out of first place with our pitching and defense the last month, hopefully we can earn our way back into first place with improved pitching and defense in the near future. I have been wrong about basically every team in the AL Central this year outside of Kansas City, hopefully I continue to be wrong with how I feel about the Sox chances right now.

8/3 Wsox vs Royals: Richard vs Grienke 1:10

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 03:21 PM) So, we have one bench sub left with Jim Thome. If another slapping match were to happen, we may have to forfeit. You could always put Wassermann in the field. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 03:21 PM) It's true though, his next schedule start is supposed to be against the Twins. Hopefully he appeals it. Yeah in all seriousness I was going to say he'll appeal whatever it is, so it should be ok. -

You knew that was coming. I'm surprised they let Grienke do it though, he's going to get a 5 or 6 game suspension. That hit Swish right in the hip I think. -

Kyle Farnsworth entered today in the 8th inning with a 3-1 lead at Tampa Bay. He's still in, it's still the 8th, and it's 4-3 Rays. Nice trade, Tigers. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 03:14 PM) There are 30 teams asking that. I don't think the Twins are asking that, they know where he is. However, I see your point, and it's true, 29 teams are wondering that. -

QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 03:08 PM) you don't think these two teams are heading in opposite directions? The Twins have been playing better baseball than us for a long time. The fact it took them this long to pass us (and they still haven't in the column that matters a lot right now, the loss column) is a sign we have hope as a team if we can turn around the pitching. Getting back a (hopefully) healthy Jose and especially Linebrink will help, and so would sending away Clayton Richard and Boone Logan. I think Minnesota will win the division, but to say it's over is not not accurate. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 03:01 PM) This makes me feel like we have a chance, no matter what: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/standings It's the only thing left (along with the offense outside of today) that would make you think the Sox still have a chance, but it's the only thing that counts. -

QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 02:52 PM) oh, like we did to the Cardinals in 2006 at the cell? people have ridiculously selective memories. What do you mean? We didn't run up the score against the Cardinals in 2006, we just faced two of the worst pitchers in baseball at that time in 82 MPH fastball Mark Mulder in Jason Marquis. As for game three, we only won 1-0 on one solo home run for our hit. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 02:51 PM) He tried to, no doubt in my mind. Yeah, I'm not sure if Ozzie told him to throw at Olivo or not, but he clearly was trying to hit him. He threw it right at the "Royals" on Olivo's jersey twice in a row. -

QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 02:49 PM) crybaby sh** right there, pitch well, beat these terrible teams stop making excuses for this bullsh*t. You don't throw at people/teams because they are kicking your butt. But you do throw at them when they are doing the stuff the Royals are today. There is a very big difference, if we were just down by a big margin today and we threw at them, I'd have not liked it and said it was lame and a pathetic waste of time. However, when your opponent is kicking your butt AND trying to bunt for hits and steal bases and pimping home runs even though they never hit them, something probably needs to be done. -

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 02:47 PM) Another common theme to the relief corp lately: first batter they face with runners on and a situation they must shut down the opposition-they give up a base hit Yeah our inherited runners scored stats the last month have to be all time bad. -

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 02:44 PM) Greinke on the mound, so I don't really know what to expect. He'll probably pitch 6 or 7, they'll put some scrub in since it's a blowout, and have him throw at somebody. -

QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 02:42 PM) I agree with this. Nothing says POS team like one that's throwing beanballs after getting their asses handed to them 2 straight days in embarassing losses. How about the pitchers actually get some guys out? I almost always would agree with you here, I am in the camp you are in 99.9 percent of the time. But Mike Aviles post home run actions and the Royals trying to bunt and steal bases with a 6 run lead are things that will upset the opponent. If you show somebody up, they might respond. -

QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 02:41 PM) not a fan of fastballs at the grill because your pitching staff fu*king blows. Aviles's reaction to hitting his home run and the stealing/bunting with a 6 run lead will get the ball thrown at your head in a hurry. -

QUOTE (KipWellsFan @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 02:40 PM) You're writing of Richard unbelievably quick. He has an average fastball and lously secondary stuff. It is certainly possible he'll pitch in the major leagues again after this stint, but he'll never be any good there. -

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 02:38 PM) Did Olivo start it cause he got an owie from being hit? As much as Olivo is a hothead and a pussy, I can see why he was mad. DJ threw it right at him and it hit the bat knob for a strike, then threw the next pitch in the exact same spot and it did hit him and lead to the skirmish. He was obviously throwing at him, and at this point I can't blame him for doing it. -

QUOTE (KipWellsFan @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 02:33 PM) So you can say without hesitation that Richard will never pitch again for the Sox, but saying we're not going to make the playoffs is unreasonable? Saying we're not going to make the playoffs is perfectly reasonable, I'll say it right now: We're not going to make the playoffs. The thing is, to say "it's over, we're done" is WAY different, and to say that about a team tied in the loss column with the team in first is just not accurate. And Clayton Richard will never pitch again for us because he really, really sucks. Also, nicely done by A.J. to get to Olivo. I like the fact that a pitcher came in and threw at the Royals hitter though. Maybe this will wake us up, although I doubt it becaues our problem is bad pitching and defense, not really corpseball. Olivo was a little pussy with that mound charge though, go get him if you want to.
