  1. We've been shut out and shut down by some trash this season, but that was as bad as it gets. Four hits, no extra base hits, one walk, no runs in 9 innings against what is really a minor league journeyman. A series win on the road would still be a positive with how we have played away lately, but that was sad to watch tonight.
  2. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 02:49 PM) Ya, seriously, what the hell happened to him? The only thing I can think of is this: He knows that he is a lot like Willie Randolph naturally (aka he's quiet). Randolph's way didn't work there, and Jerry wants to keep the job, so maybe he figures by acting bat s*** crazy, the team will play better and he'll look good?
  3. That was incredible. Germany scored in I believe the 79th or 80th minute to take the lead, but in a case of Turkey being Turkey, they somehow score just a few minutes later in the 86th to tie it. Then, Germany takes the lead back 3-2 just a few seconds before regular time expired. I have no idea how long extra time was or if Turkey had any chances because ESPN (and apparently, everybody in the world) lost the feed due to lightning in Switzerland, but Germany did indeed win 3-2. Turkey was incredible all tournament (especially with the late goals in every game except the 1st one) and probably deserved a better fate in this game with how they played. Some HORRIBLE goalkeeping on both sides today though, Germany will get beat by Russia or Spain if Lehmann doesn't get his s*** together.
  4. Marriotti has tried, and failed miserably, twice at sports radio. That column is is not only wrong, but it's ignoring reality. He hasn't "failed for a variety of reasons", he's failed because people didn't listen. People will generally ignore the fact you are a dick and read your column because it's fascinating to see what crazy s*** you'll say in it, but they won't listen to your 3 hour radio show if they don't like you, find you smart, or find you funny. Have to have at least one of those three qualities to survive in sports radio, and Jay doesn't.
  5. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 06:56 AM) It's called civic pride. Some of hate going to work and hearing it from the Cub fans. Anybody who would take crap from Cubs fans deserves every word of it they hear. Cub fans have no reason to talk s*** ever, and any self respecting Sox fan knows what to say to shut them up, even the dumb ones.
  6. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 10:49 AM) Thome suffers from back stiffness and Konerko pulled a muscle and Quentins had was banged up. Calm down now please. I wonder how long it takes before we get the "trade him before it's too late posts and/or he is down for the count" etc etc You really aren't this dumb, are you? Joe Crede has a long history of back problems, in fact it could be debated back problems are the only reason Joe isn't an even better player today. I am not saying to trade Joe either. Fields is hurt, plus Joe is a better play right now, and in addition, we have crossed the Rubicon with trading Joe as he is here until the season is over and then he is going to leave, that's the way it is. You make some strange posts, but this is right up there. Don't take what I said out of context or anything.
  7. Is there any reason so many democrats agreed to this deal? I am honestly baffled at this turn of events. Is it just to look good in regards to security or what?
  8. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 01:16 AM) As am I, and as are many. He swore he'd filibuster teleco immunity, and now is his chance to make good on his word. Feingold is apparently the only one with enough backbone to stand up for this, and it's really disheartening to see most of the Dem majority so willing to capitulate. Is there any reason the democrats are letting this happen? Is it just so they can try and make themselves look better on security issues or what? Because I am baffled at this turn of events, I never thought they'd let this happen.
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 12:45 AM) Tony, some of us don't like losing to the f***ing Cubs? You can't understand that? If not, why not? It's going to be the same next weekend for many of us. We are going to want wins desperately and will be elated if we win and pissed as hell if we tank again like last weekend. That's fine, but every game still counts just the same. A win tonight is no more or less relevant than a win this weekend is, and that is his very correct point. As for those asking in this thread, Crede was out with "back stiffness" tonight, I started at thread on it. And I still think Dewayne Wise is awful, but I hope I'm wrong.
  10. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 12:07 AM) http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?s=...t&p=1660599 That makes it even better/funnier. Thanks.
  11. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 12:06 AM) Well, this explains it. I just made a post in the winner thread asking what happened cause he took BP with the regulars and was warming up before the game and than all of a sudden I saw Pablo out there and start (Crede was initially announced the starter in the lineup too). I'm guessing it was precautionary though cause he was stroking it during BP. That's good to hear, and again, if this were anybody but Crede I wouldn't think twice. But I assume the worst with him and his back, even with him having had the surgery and with him being out tonight looking like a precaution. We can't have Joe hurt, he's having a very good year at the plate and even Fields is hurt.
  12. Should we be concerned about this? I know he had the surgery, but anytime Crede and back are in the same sentence, I tend to cringe. Maybe we should give him a couple more days off to be safe. I know this could be construed as postgame talk, but I figured it deserved it's own thread.
  13. Murphy isn't going anywhere. He appeals to the dumb Cub fan, and there are hundreds of thousands of them in Chicago that will listen to his show. That might be the biggest audience to appeal to in Chicago sports in fact, the dumb Cubs fan. Mully and Hanley are great and i'd love them in the mornings, but i'm not sure how feasible that is full time with their newspaper duties. I'd think Lawrence Holmes is in line to get the open gig, unless they'd want to expand Murph to 4 hours.
  14. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 24, 2008 -> 11:44 PM) And the Tribe. You can't really fall out of the race in this division, but the 2008 Tribe looks a lot like the 2006 Tribe.
  15. Trevor Hoffman just needs to retire already. Washed up. Rough to see the Twins win the game where Peavy pitched too.
  16. I like the nickname Slayer, but where did it originate? Hopefully he has a big game tomorrow and leads Georgia to the ultimate glory in college baseball. He's a fun player to watch, the limited time I've seen him makes me see why he's compared to Michael Young.
  17. Needed that one bad, and Mark is really on a roll right now. This series is setup for us to do really well. They've got a couple talented young guys pitching the next two days, but so do we and ours are more experienced. We should AT LEAST get 2 out of 3.
  18. He's really turning it around, thank God. Congrats to him on 1,000 strikeouts as well.
  19. I wouldn't be surprised if they go into a streak of playing relatively mediocre (around .500) ball at home for a few weeks now that the mystique of not losing there for 5 weeks is gone. It was nice to see them lose at that s***hole for once.
  20. To say this is good news is an understatement. He really was an embarassment in the sense he made fans in this city seem dumb. It amazes me somebody like him could get rich, but hey this is quite a country. Glad he's gone though.
  21. QUOTE (Texsox @ Jun 24, 2008 -> 09:42 AM) I probably should start a different thread, but it kind of fits here. Actually in today's environment any mention of race, becomes racist if said by an aging white man. We have swung the pendulum too far on one direction and have stifled any constructive dialog. IF Imus truly had wanted to point out that minorities are picked on more, he would still have been labeled a racist. We just do not seem to acknowledge that there are different races in this country and their American experience is different based on the color of their skin and the language they speak. Well I agree with this, but Imus is clearly a racist, and what he said here was clearly quite racist, so I definitely can't give him the benefit of the doubt. Actually, one of the few aging white men that could talk about race and not be labeled a racist was George Carlin, who of course isn't around anymore.
  22. I know he's just supposedly a taller Heath Phillips, but Clayton Richard has been GREAT this year. He was awesome at Birmingham, and now on fire at Charlotte.
  23. As a die hard fan of bitter, sarcastic humor, I will miss Carlin. Perhaps his greatest achievement was living 71 years with a heart full of cocaine, but I digress. He will be missed, Carlin and Pryor are the first two names you can put on any great comic list IMO.
  24. John Danks would already be in this game if he had the same run support that our other starters receive. It's a damn shame people rely on record that much, something a pitcher often can't control (as is Danks' case), but that's how it goes. If we have a shot at a 2nd all star, it's Crede because they won't take two White Sox OF's as reserves IMO, and I don't think Linebrink will make it.
  25. This series in itself (Cubs/Sox) is overrated, and it is also true that what the Cubs do has no affect on us at all outside of when we play them. I am even the guy that started the positive minded "it could be worse" thread last night, and I meant it. But if you can't, as a White Sox fan like we all are here, hate the Chicago Cubs just based on basic principle, then I can't help you. They are the most hateable franchise in sports, and it's not even close. The fact that a franchise that NEVER wins can still be so hateable is all you need to know about them.
