QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 18, 2008 -> 09:50 PM) I'd say people were more frustrated with Toby's shoulder and Ozzie's judgment in ST than they were angry with Toby himself. Pretty much everyone loved the signing when it happened and he is definitely a better player than his production let on last season, he just couldn't function with that torn labrum. It's nice to see him have a bounce back season after being the worst player in baseball last year. Agreed on all counts. In retrospect, he probably shouldn't have played last year, especially as the season went on and we were clearly a bad squad.

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jun 18, 2008 -> 08:43 PM) There really is no reason for concern over Beasley's height. He's got the length, bulk, and athleticism to make up for a few inches in the post. Guys like Carlos Boozer, Elton Brand, Udonis Haslem etc are doing ok as shorter PF's. I don't want any of those guys with the #1 pick though, I want much better than that. -
I'm not sure who the best veteran without a title is, but McGrady is eliminated from the discussion. The fact he's never won in the first round is one of the big running jokes in sports right now, and that is inexcuseable for somebody as talented as he is.

Zambrano has a 5.68 ERA with 13 strikeouts, 12 walks, and 33 hits allowed in 25 and 1/3 innings in his 4 starts since Lou kept him out there for 130 pitches against the Dodgers. And now he has shoulder soreness and had to leave prematurely tonight. I don't believe in coincidences, so this could be a problem for them, just as I think Marmol's overuse could be one in due time. Gotta lose the battle to win the war sometimes, Lou.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 18, 2008 -> 08:56 AM) No way he made either of those plays on his own. Those are both called in the dugout, I would almost guarentee you. Well whoever called it is stupid. I understand it was a really good defensive play, but if your going to bunt there, you better be sure the runner will be safe at 1st without a throw. It can't be that close on a bunt with 2 outs in the 9th and losing.

Yeah I worry Russell's slider is like Dewon Day's in the sense it grades out well with the movement, but it's effectiveness is null and void to MLB hitters due to the arm angle it's thrown at often times. Hopefully I'm wrong though, I love his fastball and sink, as well as mound presence.

I'm the biggest Getz fan on this site, but Richar has to be the answer. He's just really talented.

Looked like a bad night for Reed on the highlights I just saw. He was caught trying to steal 3rd with two outs in a very close, low scoring game to end an inning. Then, he inexplicably tried to bunt with runners on 1st and 3rd, 2 outs in a 3-2 game. Not shocking with Reed's lack of speed, he was thrown out to end the game. It was a tough play, as was the throw to get him at 3rd, but that's double dumb baseball right there.

I don't think Tiger was faking it at all. He winced and agonized in pain after several very good shots as well. And who cares if he swears after a bad shot? Do any of you not curse after you screw up? Lord knows I do. If anything, it makes him more human that he does that IMO.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 02:03 PM) Well I didnt hear anything about him making it rain or walking around wearing hundred thousand dollar jewelry, just heard he was found unconcious and robbed. edit: nevermind, I saw it http://myespn.go.com/blogs/hashmarks?tag=javon%20walker Although splashing people with champaign is just a weak reason to rob someone Oh for sure. Nobody deserves to be robbed ever, especially if they are just flashing their wealth (although that is a lame thing to do). But you have to assume the worst of people in this day and age, so if you flash it, expect people to do whatever they feel neccesary to get some of it unfortunately. -
A three and a half hour or so regular season game that was only a 3-2 final? How bizarre, must have been a lot of long at bats, pitching changes, and men left on base I guess. At least the blue b****es lost though, a perfect day in Chicago is always nice, can't get enough Chicago victories.

Tonight was fun, and I love Russell's stuff. Let's not lose 2-1 or something tomorrow, ok? Good.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 01:43 PM) Doesnt EVERYBODY flash their wealth in vegas? If you flash your wealth, don't be surprised if somebody goes to extreme measures to try and take some of it for you. I'm not saying you deserve to get robbed, and to me it's not flashing your wealth just to have a nice car or something, but if you want to make it rain and wear hundred thousand dollar jewelry, people will notice you. And some people are bad people, as well all know. -
Soxbadger is right. I don't claim to be a lawyer here, but it's pretty hard to convict somebody of a crime if the so called victim denies she is involved, was the victim, or in this case, is the girl in the tape. It is a case of our justice system sucking, but the reason it's a case of that is R. Kelly is a free man because it's pretty obvious he paid the girl off to say she wasn't the victim or in the tape. But hey, if you have money, you can get away with almost anything in America.

Today's news was good as well in that the broadcast teams are official: T.V.: Pat Foley and Ed Olczyk Radio: John Wiedeman and Troy Murray Best T.V./Radio combination in hockey, and you'd have a hard time finding a better one ANYWHERE IMO. Olczyk is great, I like Troy Murray a lot, and Wiedeman is as good as you'll find on radio IMO. Then, obviously you have Foley, one of the great voices in the history of sports broadcasting. If the hockey team is half as good as the guys calling their games, they'll win the Stanley Cup in no time.

http://nwi.com/articles/2008/06/15/sports/...468006e2a02.txt? I'm sure almost everybody here knows who Dan McNeil is between his days on ESPN Radio and previously on WSCR. As somebody who has a brother with disabilities (not as bad as autism, but still a challenge), I have to say he sums up perfectly the feelings of the family of kids growing up with disabilities. I figured I'd post it, because this article really hit home for me, and I figured it might for somebody else.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 13, 2008 -> 03:54 PM) Here is the video of that, if anyone is interested. I didn't know he was a Bills fan. Yeah, he was a huge Bills/Sabers fan, as he is from Buffalo. I think he was a season ticket holder for the Bills, as well as the Wizards and Nationals in D.C. I think he was even on the board of directors for the baseball hall of fame. His death is just awful news. He was probably, at least in my opinion, the most respected and unbiased reporter you were going to find on national television, certainly in politics. Watching Meet the Press growing up was what made politics and current events interesting to me in the first place. And now, everything I read matches what I always heard, which is that he was very devout to his family, his job, even his religion, and that he was just generally a great guy. 58 is way too young to go for anybody, but especially for somebody like Russert. RIP.

Boy, seeing the Wig and Pen like that makes it hit home. I have a couple friends in the IC, and everytime I've ever been there, we ended up hanging out at the Wig and Pen. Hopefully these floodwaters are finally done rising and the cleanup can begin relatively soon.

QUOTE (Shadows @ Jun 10, 2008 -> 11:28 PM) I like how you had to wait till the Lakers won a game before you made a reply to this.. It still wasn't a ridiculous claim like you made it seem.. and yet, the Lakers barely win tonight (at home) even with Pierce and Garnett playing like horses*** I do stick to the square circle thread because I don't have to deal with people like you who are in the other threads on here Well the Celtics are likely going to win this in 6 games, and that's not really a surprise, as I said the Celtics could win in 6 or 7 and nobody would really be surprised. But to say sweep was just silly and wrong, and that has been proven even with the Lakers choking all series. I'd have come in here and posted I was wrong after a sweep, and even posted I was surprised had the Lakers lost it in 5, but I wasn't going to be wrong at any time because the Lakers have gagged all series and still won two games. This series is probably over though, unless Kobe puts up like 50 points in game 6, which he probably isn't going to do.

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 03:27 PM) Teams get swept by other teams on the road. Long, extended losing streaks happen to world series winning teams. Check out the 05 Sox's August record. I believe they were something like 9-19. This is 3 games - let's be real. If they so much as even split the next six games I'm going to START to get concerned. 12-16 that August. The other big problem with this series is if we win 2/3 against the lousy Pirates and Rockies (certainly acceptable), it means we will have actually gone a game under .500 during our easiest stretch schedule wise of the season so far at 4-5. That certainly wouldn't take away the great 7-0 homestand, but it would remove all forms of the momentum of it. Be nice if we do better than 4-2 on this homestand though.

I hope the people of New Orleans take note that levees actually fail sometimes, it's not a government act against poor communities. Now that I got that political thought that has no business being here out of the way, I say that I'm praying for you guys in Iowa. This is out of control, it's like a plague of rain or something.

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 03:22 PM) Again, you're willing to acknowledge the team performed exactly 1 game worse than your expected value of this series... The biggest reason my expected value of the series was so low is if it looks too good to be true, it probably is, and that was the case with the Sox the last week. We're a decent, MAYBE pretty good team, but this series just smelled like one where we'd lay an egg coming in. But just because I expected us to do bad doesn't make it excuseable, it just means I'm a pessimist that was unfortunately proven to have merit for his feelings the last 3 days.

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 03:21 PM) Either that 11 under team is in no danger of making a run, or that 11 under team is not really an 11 under team. You can't have it both ways. Either Detroit is bad and it's incomprehensible that the Sox could lose this series, or Detroit is better than their record, capable of an extended run and it's understandable how the Sox could get swept. Nice try. They are obviously capable of making a run, as their offense is pretty good and they just swept us, but it doesn't change the cold hard fact they they were 11 games under .500 and barely out of the cellar 72 hours ago. Are the Tigers your normal 11 (well now 8) games under .500 team? Of course not, they don't suck. Doesn't change the fact that being swept by them is inexcuseable, especially when you only gave up two runs in one of the games.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 03:02 PM) Bush is saying he is considering legislation to make sure these detainees are dealt with. aka legislation that will make sure a supreme court ruling does NOT apply to anything he wants to happen. el dictador del presidente!! Yahoo disagrees with you, well sort of: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/bush_europe I'm not really sure what he can do, it's the Supreme Court. However, he does say he'll abide by it, so I'm not sure if the dictator tag applies here like it often does with Mr. Bush.

QUOTE (letsgoarow @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 03:13 PM) I didnt say that was acceptable the quote i refrenced said we could be 14 games up, thats just ridic. Oh I agree with that. I actually thought we'd have a lot of trouble in this series, I just wanted one win going in. The thing that makes so frusterating is we should have at least got that win with the way Buehrle pitched today.
