  1. If your going to make a crazy move, you bench Swish, move Alexei to CF, waive Uribe, and call up either Richar or Getz (probably Getz right now) and play him at 2B. That'll never happen though of course.
  2. The question(s) I have for people who don't think Walker should be fired is this: Should a hitting coach EVER be fired? Is one even needed? Because it's never really just the hitting coaches fault if you can't hit, but Greg Walker has done about as much as a hitting coach can to show he should be fired since the second half of 2006. If you think Walker shouldn't be fired, I can't only assume you think hitting coaches just shouldn't be fired because it's not their fault, and thus they shouldn't even exist because they aren't needed. Although to be honest, I'd have a really hard time arguing that point of view.
  3. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 01:06 AM) Is Manny Ramirez kidding or serious? Manny moved to Washington Heights in Manhattan when he was like 12 or 13 IIRC. It's possible he's serious and they lied about his age when he first moved to the states, but the odds aren't as high as they would be with most guys from down there.
  4. Best pitching coach in baseball. I feel so bad for him watching this offense, if we could hit at all, we'd be a team that would win our division and Don Cooper's work with the pitching would be the #1 reason why. Keep it up Coop.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 03:23 PM) Can we just find a PED supplier to infilitrate our clubhouse? That seems to be the one constant over the past few years. Swish is the only guy we have that was on PED's I think, so that's not really the issue. The problem is we're old, slow, have a bad hitting coach, can't adjust to the way we're pitched, can't get guys home from 3rd with less than two outs, etc. Basically, the problem is we suck on offense in every way imaginable.
  6. The worst part is, there aren't many changes that can be made. We already changed the lineup, Alexei playing everyday has already helped since he's hitting .300 since he started playing everyday, OC has been a bit better lately, and we're STILL not scoring. The offense just sucks, and all we can do is pray we hit enough home runs and have enough pitching to win this s***ty division. I doubt we can win the division this way though, which is sad because our pitching has been great.
  7. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 03:34 PM) I chose yes, but not as harsh as "Fire his ass". Just something that should be done. Can't fire the line up, a change has to be make to try and light a spark. Unfortunately, Greg should probably be the fall guy. Agreed 100 percent.
  8. QUOTE (knightni @ May 31, 2008 -> 11:49 PM) If Rose has no outside shot now, he's certainly not going to develop one in the pros. There have been more than a few pros to develop an outside shot at the NBA level. If your a great shooter, you just are, but guys have developed a respectable outside game at the NBA level through repetition, and that is all Rose needs with his point guard skills.
  9. The records now are whatever you see them to be. Sadly, the chemistry experiment owns both records in MLB's book due to Selig's cowardly approach to PED's in the 1990's and that can't be changed. However, fans know what truly went down, and the records really are whatever each individual fan sees them as. The sacred status of baseball records is gone for all eternity, as is the fact they were undeniable numbers that stood on their own merit.
  10. DSL1 with a 12 run inning, DSL2 gets one hit. Might want to mix and match some of the guys to even out the offense for the 2 squads.
  11. Jay Bruce with his first home run today, and it was a walkoff shot in the 10th. He's now 11 for 19 with 8 runs, 3 doubles, a home run, 4 RBI's, 2 steals, 5 walks, and only one strikeout. Also, congrats to Manny Ramirez on home run #500 tonight. Brandon Webb also got back on track tonight, throwing a complete game 6 hit shutout with 8 strikeouts, no walks, and a 16-3 GO/AO to move to 10-2.
  12. Everybody else lost tonight too except Kansas City luckily. It's still an OK road trip if we win tomorrow, get 2 of 3 at Cleveland and split 4 (going 4-3 on the season at Tampa as a result) against the red hot Rays with a win tomorrow please.
  13. My problem is that our hitters have been getting pitched the same every game since the 2nd half of 2006 (hard inside to jam them, soft away/down and out of the zone to finish them off) and we have yet to adjust. Greg Walker isn't the sole culprit, but you can't fire the players, especially in the middle of the season.
  14. Count has turned into a groundball machine this year, a 12-4 GO/AO tonight. He hasn't had a GO/AO reach even 1.20 since he put up a 1.49 in his rookie season of 2003, but this year his GO/AO is a gaudy 1.95. Combine that with only 19 walks and an adequte 47 k's in an out shy of 75 innings, and you have a guy with great numbers and the periphials to keep it up.
  15. Swisher and Thome's lefty and righty average splits are almost identical this year: Swish: .220 vs. left, .199 vs. right Thome: .220 vs. left, .203 vs. right Scary stat (besides Swish's slugging percentage against anybody): Thome has 4 walks in 54 PA's against lefties. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 30, 2008 -> 11:40 PM) Ridiculous statement. A guy that is slumping has obviously JUST gone off the juice. Nice assumption. Well if he lasts another month like this, I'll officially think that. You don't just lose your power and stop hitting in your mid 20's.
  16. Charlotte lost 6-4 to Richmond in 10 innings: http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...ox&did=milb Getz 1 for 5, RBI, run Owens 2 for 4 with a walk Collaro 2 for 4 with a homerun and walk Richar 1 for 4 with a walk and run Haeger: 8 IP, 4 hits, 2 runs earned, 0 walks, 7 strikeouts (last 6 starts: 43 IP, 33 hits, 14 walks, 22 k's, 3.14 ERA) Childers finally gave up a run, ERA still only 1.14 Birmingham shutout Jacksonville 3-0 in Alabama: http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...ox&did=milb Nanita 1 for 4 with a double Cook 2 for 4 Mercedes 1 for 2 with a two run homer Carlos Torres: 6 IP, 2 hits, 2 walks, 3 strikeouts, win moves him to 6-2 with a 3.94 ERA Lujan and Derek Rodriguez with holds, Link the save, and a shutout inning for each W-S finished a suspended game from May 8th by beating Salem 5-0 on the road: http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...ox&did=milb Then won at Salem outright in the full game later on this evening, 3-1: http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...ox&did=milb Colina 1 for 3 with an RBI and walk RBI for Shelby Retherford 2 for 4 with a solo HR and double Orlando 2 for 4 with a double, triple, and run Zaleski: win moves him to 3-1, 6 IP, 6 hits, 1 earned run, no walks, 4 k's, 12 groundouts to 1 airout Rote gets hold with 2 shutout innings, moves ERA to 1.09 Texeira with shutout inning, 8th save, moves ERA to 1.93 Kanny was soundly beaten, 8-1, at Lexington: http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...ox&did=milb Miranda 1 for 3 with a walk and run Logan Johnson 0 for 3 with a walk Rough night for Carter: falls to 5-2, 5.1 IP, 9 hits, 7 earned runs, 2 walks, 5 k's, 2 home runs allowed, ERA rises to 2.77 Bowling in relief: 2.2 IP, 4 hits, 1 earned run, no walks, 4 k's, 4 groundouts to no airouts
  17. The Lakers are going to be all time good next season IMO. As for this year, I think they beat Boston. Odom should have a big series, Boston doesn't have a lineup that can even somewhat contain Kobe and Odom at the same time, and you know they'll double #24.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ May 30, 2008 -> 07:51 PM) Jay Bruce = good, according to my sources. I assume this is sarcasm in regards to needing sources, but the only two sources you need to see that kid is going to spend a lot of time at the all star game are eyes.
  19. It took two months, but I've lost my patience with Swisher. At least Jim is old and Konerko has the thumb, Swisher just looks like a guy lost without his PED's right now.
  20. Put the missle in CF and bench Swish, since we apparently need Juan so badly in the lineup. Of course, Ozzie is not going to do that.
  21. At least the Twinkies didn't gain any ground tonight.
  22. The baffling thing about the Cubs is their #2 starter as of March (Lilly) has been AWFUL, Marquis hasn't been anywhere near as good as he usually is the first two months, and their #3 starter as of March (Hill) is in triple a and has been there for a few weeks. The good news of that is you won't win in October that way, and Kerry Wood is going to get hurt as well as their offense will regress to the means. Problem is, even when they regress, their offense is stll good and if Wood gets hurt, their best reliever will actually close.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ May 30, 2008 -> 04:31 PM) Reason #100005 why I hate the Cubs and their fans. An actual smart baseball friend of mine at work was trying to say how the AL Central is the worst division in baseball. He's like "the Pirates would destroy the Tigers right now". There's already a few teams in the NL who's season is over....Padres, Rockies, Nationals, and Giants. The NL is the definition of top heavy, and the top really isn't even all that good. People keep saying the NL is back on the way up because AL offense isn't nearly as good, but the reason is the AL pitching is just a billion times better. Even our offense could probably have some outbursts against it, and we did in one of our first three games against them.
  24. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ May 30, 2008 -> 04:29 PM) I agree with your logic, but we are talking about Cubs fans here. They like to make legends out of everything, and don't think the Tribune and their cute stories won't help their cause. As a wise man once said: "That's why I don't read the newspaper, because it's garbage".
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ May 30, 2008 -> 04:23 PM) I'm thinking there's going to be a special edition newspaper to commemorate today's Cubs game. I went on chicagosports.com earlier to read the Sox news, and it really seemed like an afterthought on the site. With the exception of winning the world series, we always have been and always will be an afterthought in the Chicago media, and it really doesn't matter either because I can now tell you from personal experience that most media members are legitimately stupid anyways. And I think the thought of a special edition newspaper is a slight exaggeration.
