QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 08:10 PM) HAHAHA! AWESOME! And not surprising. As far to the right as Fox News is, MSNBC is just as far to the left.

There isn't a reference to the antichrist's nationality in Revelations, so that whole thing is a crock of crap, I've read the entire book of Revelation in three versions (and generally, read a lot of the Bible). The only thing the Bible implies is that the antichrist will probably be a white male with either dominant Roman, Greek, or perhaps generally Latin blood, none of which fit Obama as far as I know. The whole discussion is crazy though, Obama doesn't fit a single description of the Antichrist except he's a great speaker. By that logic, Ronald Reagan could have been the antichrist, he was a great speaker and fit the bloodlines better than Obama does actually.

Rumor: Hillary Clinton to Concede Dem Nomination
whitesoxfan101 replied to BigSqwert's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 10:49 PM) Clinton's Refusal To Concede "Deranged Narcissim" David Gergen's response is classic!!! Toobin was an absolute grouch tonight, but he had a good point there. As for Clinton tonight........well if the democrats lose in November, this speech of hers tonight will be the thing you want to look back at as a big reason why. Her crybaby attitude could be contagious with her supporters (ie they might switch to McCain/not vote in decent numbers), and Obama obviously needs a lot of her people in November, as they are the old line base of the Democratic party. I have said for a while, and believe more and more by the day, she wants Obama to lose so she can do this all again in 2012. Then again, she might just concede by the end of the week, but her rhetoric tonight wasn't wise for the unity of the party, regardless of what she does. -
Alexei at #9 isn't a bad idea either, because our team has shown that certain parts of the order can rally certain days, but other parts don't do anything and we thus leave a lot of men on base. The lineup balance of having somebody as hot hitting as Alexei at the bottom of the order doesn't hurt.

Big win obviously. Ramirez is interesting because he doesn't walk, yet he still gives a lot of longer, quality at bats because he fouls off so many pitches. He seems to have won a job, and you wonder if he'll eventually get a shot at leadoff. As I said, he doesn't really walk, but OC isn't getting on base much, plus Alexei is hitting for great average lately while giving long AB's and has a lot of speed.

I think Kent Mercker was the other one, but one was either rain shortened or he didn't pitch the whole game, so I'm not sure if that counts. And if it's not him, it has to be Nolan Ryan.

I can't wait until they lose in the NL playoffs again and all the dread in this thread is for nothing, just like last year.

2007-2008 NHL Catch All Thread
whitesoxfan101 replied to kapkomet's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
What a fantastic game and Sykora pulls the Babe Ruth to end it. I'll be at the Sox game Wednesday, might have to TIVO it and try to not find out the score until I can get home and watch it. -
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 10:41 AM) I must admit, I am baffled by those results. I was way out of touch on that issue with what people think. QUOTE (Texsox @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 07:32 AM) This was a no win for the man. Seemed most people wanted him to leave the Church, and when he does, he's called a hypocrite. Some people believe if you even listen to something, you must believe it. Guilt by association. Everyone here would have to make some changes in their lives to run for President. Well, I agree everyone here would have to make changes to run for president. The piont I would make though is this: I don't think he's a hypocrite for leaving the church. You have the absolute right to leave the church and go somewhere else. My problem is, he was there for 20 years, and he leaves now because "any remarks made at Trinity will be imputed to me even if they conflict with my stated views and values"? Of course they will, it's (well, was) his church! He himself has said his spiritual beliefs and values were formed under Reverend Wright and at that church, so to say that and then leave the church with a big reason being "people" (aka the media) connecting him to what is said at the church, that is hypocritical by definition. I know you don't just agree with everything said at church, but when your church of 2 decades is this radical, it obviously paints you in a very bad light, and leaving the church now after two decades is too little, too late to change it. This goes far beyond "guilt by association" and "you must believe it if you hear it" because it's 20 years at a place that formed his entire spiritual belief system, and was where he was married and had his kids baptized. It's one thing to leave the church because you disagree with it's direction, but this is just a case of Obama being like every other political in Washington, throw people under the bus if you have to in order to save yourself.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 11:39 AM) wow I think Obama is going to do fine with the white male vote (especially with John Edwards endorsing him, that was a rare endorsement that actually DOES matter, most don't IMO). The problem for him is that there are going to be a lot of bitter, white women that will be pissed they don't get to vote for a woman. Not as mad as this crazy lady, but at the same time, a lot of white women and feminists will have to be convinced to not stay home or even vote for McCain by Obama, because they are dillusional and angry right now.

This division sucks.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 10:16 PM) I figured I'd cut this off before it got out of hand. For those of you who have seen any of the "right" blogs, there is a rumor that there is a video of Michelle Obama at Trinity going off on "whitey". However, it seems it very well might not be the case. PS: neither the source nor this rebuttal are what I would call "accurate", but it is interesting to note. The rumor of this tapes existence has been out there for quite a while now. It might be used an October surprise I think, but I'd be somewhat surprised if it doesn't exist with as much as has been said about it. I have no opinion on it though until there is concrete proof of it's existence.

The caucus system has to go. I don't think it's the only reason that Obama is going to win at all like some people do, but the system is pretty damn stupid.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 04:22 PM) Didnt he say he would NOT change things after the Toronto series? I dont remember him saying anything like this yet, especially not in regards to Walker losing his job It's possible, in fact probable, that your right. I know he's made threats similar to these today this year though, just couldn't remember exactly when it was.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 04:26 PM) And the Cubs would have ended up trading for Swisher, according to the rumors. However, I'll never believe the Sox were really that close to signing Fuku. It's pretty common knowledge we offered him more money than the Cubs did, so we couldn't have been that far away from getting him.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 04:23 PM) I never thought I'd say this, but the Sox failing to sign Rowand has killed us so far this season. Not as much as Fukudome turning us down because he wanted to be a teams first Japanese player has. I mean, it's not like I'd trade getting Iguchi for anything since it helped us win a title, but if we had Fukudome in CF and leading off, we'd be awfully good.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 04:15 PM) Thanks for nothing Rockies. Work will be a lot of fun tomorrow. You must just get HARASSED at work like everyday with as much as you hate them.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 04:17 PM) If their offense is so great, how come they have been shutout 9 times and held to 2 or less runs 21 times, and 3 or less runs 27 times? That is true, and yet another reason why I don't understand how people think Detroit is still in it. They suck, too much to even win this division. They are 3rd in the AL in runs though, so they've come on lately.
-
I'll believe it when I see it. I've heard Uribe was gone twice and nothing happened, most noteably. He said the same s*** after the Blue Jays series too. Now we may change the lineup again, but the reason it worked so well last time was Quentin has been great and A.J. got hot. Another change is just shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic right now, and I doubt we'll see actual roster changes with this veteran group. Glad to see Ozzie is pissed off at least. He should be.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 04:11 PM) Zumaya and Rodney are supposed to be back in 10 days. If it comes down to our hitting improving or their pitching improving....maybe I'll take the Twins! Rodney is overrated, although Zumaya is a problem obviously IF he can stay healthy. As for the Twins, I wouldn't be surprised at all if they win this wretched division, these are the kinds of AL Centrals they won earlier this decade. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 04:13 PM) You might want to take that back. What are you going to do, get me banned? I don't care.
-
It SHOULD be a very good month, and you'd hope we can hit some of the pitching we'll see this month, which won't be near as good as what we've seen the last several weeks. But this offense looks so useless at times, so you still worry.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 04:09 PM) Aren't they only like 5 games behind the Sox? Their offense has also been putting up some big numbers lately. They entered the day 7 back. If they lose today, they are 10 under. And they are us in reverse, great hitting and no pitching. As bad as it is to be our team right now, it's worse to be the one who can't get anybody out.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 04:07 PM) You ever get the feeling that some of Getz's family members post on here? In all seriousness, Uribe is the least of our worries. Ramirez will continue to play as long as he's doing good. Uribe can't even hit the Mendoza line, not sure how he's the least of our worries.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 04:01 PM) I still think Tigers have a good shot to win the division. Maybe not by 10 games though! Doubt it, their pitching is worse than our offense, plus they are in a big hole right now. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 04:05 PM) It wouldn't because it would make the team worse. First off that's wrong, our offense really can't get worse. Second off, if you want to be a little dick, that's fine, but please bless us with your thoughts on how to make this better.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 11:23 AM) And if you were in his shoes you would do what exactly? Drop out of the church after it's crazy pastor blamed his own country for 9/11, for starters. Obama seems good throwing people under the bus though, he did it to his own grandmother in the "great" Philadelphia speech. And before it's spun, I can't say what services Obama was and wasn't at, but over the course of 20 years, I'm sure he knew long ago that Reverend Wright had some whack job opinions. If he didn't leave the church due to those opinions offending him long ago like you'd think any sane person would do, he should have due to his presidential aspirations, which I'm sure he has rightfully had for a long time.
