  1. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 10:41 PM) What was that slider like pitch Aardsma threw newa the beginning of the year then? A pitch hitters chased out of the zone. His fall was when people stopped going after it 2nd time around, forced the gas, and kicked his ass.
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 10:22 PM) Of all people to say that I'm bipolar, I wouldn't expect it from you. It's not even that I think the Cubs are a great team....it's just the rest of the teams in their division suck. That's my point!! You are noticeably bipolar and depressed to ME, imagine what it is like to everybody else. Should Fields have had that ball that led off the 9th? I could not tell at all from my angle. But I can say this: if Jenks is smart and throws the hook 1-2 to Berkman like he did to Lee, I bet he gets the same result he got with Lee (a double play) and we are tied after 8 and a half innings. I would assume that is on A.J. though.
  3. I would have no problem with giving Mac another shot. I never want to see AAArdsma again, he always has been a 1 pitch pitcher with the pitch being a arrow straight 92 to 94 fastball. If you could get something for him, warm up the bus. But I would not give up on Mac yet, he showed too much last year.
  4. Kevin Mench has 1 walk in 131 AB's, to contribute to ISOD. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 10:33 PM) I think both of them are going to be very solid pitchers in the majors. And no, I'm not saying I'd rather have him. If anything, I still am disappointed that we never gave him the chance to start from the get go last year, that's all. However, that ship has sailed, and with it, went Chris Young. McCarthy does not have the stuff to be a 2 or 3, and Danks does. That is why I like our spot more than anything else. And Chris Young and not trading Crede will haunt KW in his sleep when his job is terminted.
  5. I think with the blown saves of Cordero, Saito, and Wagner this week that Jenks has the longest consecutive save streak in the game right now. But don't quote me on that. And James Shields is 6-0 with a 3.03 for TAMPA FREAKING BAY with 83 k's, 18 walks, a batting average against of just above .200, and a WHIP just below 1. Where the hell did this 16th round pick come from? QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 07:59 PM) McCarthy looks really good so far tonight. I hope you don't want him over Danks now. That is the direction your posts are going.
  6. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 06:45 PM) Speaking of the Padres...Khalil Greene was someone that I was hoping we'd trade for last offseason, in exchange for Crede. He'd be a monster outside of PetCo. They are almost the same player basically except one is a SS, one is a 3B, and Joe had his career year 2 years later than Greene. And Greene doesn't have a bad back. Not sure why San Diego would make that deal, I wouldn't if I were them. And heck, I'm not even a big fan of Khalil Greene, but then again same goes for Crede.
  7. I still find it funny that the triple a pirate gave up a 3 run walk off homer to some AAA scrub last night. McCulloch and Gio were great, and man Shelby is on fire right now.
  8. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 02:45 PM) That's still better than everyone on our team not named Thome. I honestly don't want Aaron back but I will defend him with my life god damn it. I hope you mean that not including starting pitchers. And Kalapse's numbers just show that Aaron Rowand is what he is: an average baseball player. Now, he'd be our best OF by far, but he's an average player. Jim Thome is a top 10 slugger in the AL. Big difference.
  9. One of the most overrated things in sports. Will this meeting cause us to hit or get people out in relief?
  10. Garland had the best velocity I've ever seen him have. He was at 90-93 on the gun at the park all game with the gas. In fact, he had some trouble keeping the ball down, almost as if he seeemed surprised by it, early on. But overall, he pitched great, Fields had a really nice game, Boone did a great job.....but bad teams find a way to lose, and even Jenks couldn't get it done. However, today's game was one in which I had 2 major issues with Ozzie. First, I thought we should have let Garland face Loretta to lead off the 8th, then brought in Boone or Thornton to get Berkman, then perhaps bring in Jenks an out early. There is no way Prinz should have been in there. None. And second was, to have Terrero bunt in the 9th was just not right. You only have 3 outs to work with, and you give away 1 of them to put a man only on 2nd for the 9 hitter and Mackowiak. Now I know Fields was really good today, but he has no chance against a slider like Qualls, and Mack was AWFUL today, so to set those 2 up isn't really that wise. But a loss is a loss and a bad team is a bad team. Ugh, but Thome had a HUGE hit today in the 8th, so leave him the hell alone people. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 07:40 PM) Im 0-8 to start the season. That is all. Today sent me to 2-1 this year and 10-2 in my last 12. I've had amazing luck. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 06:26 PM) That team's going to win the NL Central by 7 games. All of the guys they've spent money on have been decent, and their call-ups in Marshall and Pie are looking like damn solid major league players. This baseball season was a nightmare from literally the first batter of the season. Fathom your becoming borderline bipolar in your depression over this team with some of the stuff you are saying. That Cubs team is a bad team that will lose tomorrow to finish off a 4-3 road trip, and enter tomorrow 6 out of first. And they are 6 under .500. That is a terrible baseball team as well.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 10:27 PM) You should have seen enough of my posts to know that I thought KW did an absolutely horrible job this past offseason. I just want to see Ozzie try different things. He refused to make changes last year when Pods was brutal and Mackowiak was losing games in CF. What does Ozzie have to lose right now? Let Mackowiak lead off. Let Iguchi lead off. Hell, really shake it up and let Thome lead off....he's our best OBP guy and it's not like he has men on base much of the time anyways. Fair enough. My point is that I can't get mad on him because his GM gave him no chance, and unlike in 2006 when they would have got us to October IMO, changes in 2007 would make no difference. We are a 4th place team and will finish as such no matter what.
  12. QUOTE(GreenSox @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 10:26 PM) Why do you say that? I don't know anything about him, except that W/L wise, the Marlins did a lot better than most expected. Just wondering what his story is. That Marlins team had enough talent to make the playoffs, and started 13-33 before they began to overcome their manager. The only reason Florida isn't in the midst of the NL East* race right now is that literally half of their pitchers are having significant arm troubles and on the DL because of Girardi's workloads last year. Girardi called an NL East rival pitcher named Jon Lieber in early August to suggest a change in his mechanics, and Lieber was lights out after that, including helping to beat Florida twice in September, vaulting Philly ahead of them in the standings. He also bunted more than any manager in the game, deciding the 27 outs aren't really that precious, fought with his players, yelled at his owner to shut up during games, and wanted to do the following before the season in 2006: Move Dan Uggla to LF, Hanley Ramirez to CF, cut Josh Willingham, move Miguel Cabrera to RF, Alfredo Amezega to everday SS, and Dontrelle Willis to the bullpen. I could continue, but I think that's enough on the Girardi subject to prove my point. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 10:30 PM) Just as 2005 was largely due to KW, but wouldn't have occurred with Ozzie, 2007 is bad largely due to KW, but I think they'd be better without Ozzie. I would have to say this is accurate. 2006 was bad largely due to Ozzie though, but we'd have been better without....well I can't think of anybody else to blame for 2006 but OG. He was that bad.
  13. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 10:22 PM) - start using Logan as our main lefty specialist - use Jenks in situations where we need a big out in the 8th if we're winning or 9th if we're down by a run - stop letting Owens leadoff - break up the slow foursome of Thome, Dye, AJ, Konerko - tell KW to send Andy Gonzalez down - send down Masset to become a starter, and let MacDougal work things out All I know is that for 2.5 years, we were told that an Ozzie-led team would never go through an extended period where they didn't show a lot of fire. All I'm saying is that I want to see results on the field, and not in the press. I'm not calling for him to be fired, even though I think he's feeling miserable about our direction. None of your ideas would change the fact we are a bad baseball team though, and you know that as well as I do, that is just shuffling the furniture on the Titanic. Your point about an Ozzie-led team never going through an extended slump is well taken, but that was a myth perpetuated by the parrot in the booth and you know that too. Ozzie did enough last year to make me never argue whenever he is fired, but this year Kenny has done enough to make me never argue whenever he is fired. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 10:23 PM) No way would I ever let him get around young pitchers. He's to young pitchers as Michael Jackson is to young kids. Don't insult Michael Jackson like that.
  14. QUOTE(briguy27 @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 10:18 PM) or joe girardi as manager Our starters would all be hurt and other AL Central starters would be better from the advice of Mr. Girardi if he was our manager. The thought that Girardi was anything but an abominable manager last year is maybe the most incredible farse I've ever seen portrayed in baseball since I've watched it.
  15. Bailey was rushed up by a bad team, Wayne Krivsky isn't a horrible GM on accident. However, despite the fact Bailey hasn't thrown a curveball for a strike since he was a senior in HS it seems like, he managed to throw 5 innings of 2 run ball against the Cleveland lineup in that crazy Cincy park and pick up a win in his debut, 4-3. His hard stuff is obnoxious, and he will be a perennial all star if he figures out how to throw the other stuff (his off speed stuff is great too, just wild) over the plate. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 08:16 PM) This cliche is beyond stale. He's been throwing 87-90 and hasn't faced major league pitching in over two years. I'd take him over Bukvich, Prinz, or Masset in our pen right now.
  16. I still want you to explain to me what tangible things Ozzie can do to somehow fix this. It doesn't exist. He can't just "light the fire" right now, we have a bad team. Place the blame for this year on KW, a man who has a much longer track record than Ozzie at being bad at his job.
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 10:13 PM) When a team is failing in every aspect, the manager will get blamed. How he gets none of the blame is baffling to me. This team is playing more lethargic right now than any of the "corpseball" teams did. Were you calling for Manuel's head a few years ago? I still wonder what caused Merkin to mention the rumors that Ozzie was losing the clubhouse about a month ago? And by the way, this was about as tame of a post I could make about Ozzie right now. I would love for him to prove to me he still has the fire and still has the ability to lead a team. We have zero speed, a lineup full of bad hitters, and a horrible bullpen. You can't win the Kentucky Derby riding a donkey, and we have about 19 of them on our roster right now. Ozzie is a bad manager as he showed last year (I still think he was why we missed the playoffs), but we'd be bad this year even if Joe McCarthy was the manager.
  18. Come on Fathom, this season is 110 percent on our embarassment of a general manager. Ozzie isn't a very good manager, but there is absolutely nothing he can do about this joke of a ballclub. And it's a bit of a "STRETCH!" to use the Ozzie likes speed so the roster is part his fault argument. The GM holds all checks and balances on his manager in terms of the roster, and this roster has no speed anyways.
  19. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 12:53 AM) Well, his hard work didn't last as from what I heard and read from Brewer fans, he was a lazy defender. I"m aware of it, but he wasn't lazy for us is all my point.
  20. I bet he'd have taken her back to the hotel if she was a 14 year old that hit puberty well. He and R Kelly are both talented, but both sickos.
  21. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 11:17 PM) I can't stand watching Owens play anymore. He is nothing short of atrocious at the plate. I know some might disagree with this and rightfully so, but I'd like to see a Owens and Sweeney swap right. Also, how much longer until Wing and Vazquez get called up? Wing has been a great story, I'd love for him to get a shot. Vazquez is already up, but Vasquez might get a shot soon.
  22. Lee was known as THE hardest worker defensively on our team in '03 and '04, and he did improve quite a bit in those years. But he didn't run into walls like Rowand or tie toe around like Pods, so screw him. The fact he had actual talent unlike the 2 previous guys and that Ozzie didn't like C Lee only proves how awesome he is. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 12:06 AM) Does "sliding into second like his wife were turning the double play" count as "bad work ethic?" No, it's called an ignorant comment by an ignorant person.
  23. LMAO!! I just heard the call, Farmer said the wind helped the GS by A-Rod. Ed, he hit it THROUGH the wind you idiot! /random
  24. The smart fans like some on this board will cheer. THe "new" fans will boo because he kills their real favorite team. I will cheer Saturday when I go. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 10:48 PM) How is Pods lazy? Sucks and has a leg like Barbaro, but I have heard nothing wrong with his work ethic. And he doesn't hot dog on a high fly ball that hits the fence and then gets thrown out at second. LOL I bet you love Erstad too.
