White Sox vs. Yankees, 5/16/07 Lets Play Two!! (W), (L)

Cano pinch hits, thus Thornton stays in. 1-1 count, fastball ripped foul, 1-2. Damon on deck, does Thornton stay in for him too? Fouled off, still 1-2. 2-2 eats up him, Konerko feeds to Thornton, 2 outs for Damon. -

QUOTE(Beltin @ May 16, 2007 -> 03:31 PM) Obviously these numbers do not look impressive, but does Melky look comfortable in the OF this year? How about his presence at the plate? He looked like he was a real keeper last year but I have not tracked his progress since the Sox and Yanks last hooked up. Any thoughts? He hasn't been the same since he lost his starting job last year when everybody got healthy at the plate. But he's still a really, really good fielder. -

Dye popped out to 2nd and Mack walked on a good AB, BTW. Bruney still in, 1-1 count to Crede. -

So in this thread, Gio has been compared to Pedro Martinez and Jim Parque. You couldn't come up with 2 more opposite pitchers than those 2, and you couldn't come up with 2 worse comparisons to Gio than those 2. Wow. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 16, 2007 -> 03:26 PM) Ok, big bad bobby better be ready. Or do we keep Matt in? Melky is .148/.374 OPS vs. lefties, .253/.648 OPS vs. righties. You might want to keep Matt in, but I could see the logic either way. -

QUOTE(Beltin @ May 16, 2007 -> 03:23 PM) Thanks. If only Ed Farmer could paint the picture of the game like that. I'm taking a lot of classes for journalism and broadcasting. Makes me more qualified and better at it than Ed is, lol. BTW, that Phelps homer was slightly oppo, to the deepest part of the yard (just right of center) and went 3 or 4 rows up, just to the right of the batters eye. And into the wind, 415 feet. I am impressed. 2-1 count to Abreu, lines it RIGHT TO CREDE. Good job Matt, 5-3 Sox after 7 and a half. -

Aardsma falls behind 2-0 again, and make it behind 3-0 to Phelps. Abreu on deck, he'd probably get Thornton if Phelps reaches. 3-1 is hit deep, and damn that thing went about 415 feet into the wind. 5-3 Sox. Yep, here comes Thornton to face Abreu. -

2-0 count to Matsui, and a rare borderline strike goes our way, 2-1. Godzilla barely foul tips a high gasser, 2-2. Breaking ball misses, full count. Fouls off a heater to keep it full with Phelps on deck. NASTY fastball on the hands turns into a groundout to Gooch, 2 gone. -

Aardsma staying in there, Jorge is killing all pitching these days, so not like that matters. Thornton and Mac getting loose. 2-2 count to Posada, and HE GONE on a nasty pitch that just dropped off the table. Posada and his .376 average takes a seat. -

Paulie hits it well, but to the deepest part of the yard and into the wind, inning over. Bruney was the pitcher there, btw. To the 8th, 5-2 Sox. -
Getz is making his way up this year, and to have him at #19 AND behind Owens (amazed he's on the list at all) I don't agree with. I like it otherwise.

Righties hitting .111 against Myers this year in 12 innings, lefties hitting .333 against him in 6 innings. How strange. Anyways, a groundout by Erstad, Uribe k's looking, and AJ singles up the middle, and we have a new pitcher again. -

I agree based on pure strategy with the move to take Danks out (and it worked out at least there), but also keep in mind that we have 6 games in 5 days. Danks only threw 88 pitches today, many of which were low stress. We could start him Sunday against the Cubs now maybe, and with the day off next Thursday, his next start would be on 5 days rest. -

Uribe playing Jeter perfectly takes a potential single up the middle away, 2 outs. Here is A-Rod, first pitch is a groundout to Gooch. Well done David, inning over. -

I actually agree with this move, you have 2 righties in Jeter and A-Rod that are veteran hitters seeing Danks for the 4th time, and both have taken good hacks off of John today as is. Then Posada is due up, who is 2 for 2 today. Let Danks get Damon, who hasn't looked so good against him today, and get him out of there. -

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ May 16, 2007 -> 02:59 PM) really good game by offense and hitting, we should be up by 2 more runs if Uribe wasnt robbed =(. We are, it's 5-2....lol -

Wow, k's Damon on 3 pitches, and it was ugly. 1 out. Aardsma coming in, nice ovation for Danks as he leaves. *applauds* -

BIG inning here, Damon, Jeter, A-Rod aka the top of the order at the dish, and this is the 4th time through the order for Danks, so potential danger here. -

That slide by Mack was a lot like the slide by Sweeney last week during that day game at Minnesota. Throw beat him, but was to the right handed batters box so he hook slides inside of it to beat the tag. Groundout ends it by Sweeney, 5-2 good guys heading to the 7th. -

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 16, 2007 -> 02:51 PM) 3-4-5-6-7-8 hitters all have hits now... The only guys without anything are Sweeney and Uribe Yeah, and Uribe hit a missle his first at bat and was robbed of a homer for his 3rd.
