QUOTE(RME JICO @ May 14, 2007 -> 03:25 PM) Now my question is, can you maintain that size without supplementation? McGwire has lost 60 pounds since he retired, which is evidence to prove the answer is no (which I would have suspected anyway). There are a lot of retired NFL offensive lineman that have lost quite a bit of weight too.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ May 14, 2007 -> 03:25 PM) That's exactly how a lot of people felt in 2004 and we saw what happened. It'll be far worse backlash in 2008, and I doubt the democrats will throw out as pathetic a candidate as John Kerry. -
QUOTE(RME JICO @ May 14, 2007 -> 03:17 PM) The size thing has been debated for years. Just look at picture of Barry in a Pirates uniform and today. The jersey size is not as big of a deal as the head and foot size. Those are hard to justify, except for the fact that many people believe that Barry always had a big head (ego-wise). Those size increases in hat and shoe are smoking gun proof he used, if true. Those size increases do not happen in your mid to late 30's, it's impossible.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ May 14, 2007 -> 03:07 PM) Freeze. On. A. Line. Drive. He did freeze. And freeze. And freeze. And freeze. And freeze. And then he FINALLY took off way way late, however his speed and the poor throw made up for it.

That's incredible. I have a bigger head than post juice Barry (7 3/4) and my feet are nearly as big (I wear a 12 or 12.5, depending on brand). I should be way bigger than 6'0, 175 apparently. But in all seriousness, those are some astonishing size increases and body changes, it's like he is a human science project or something. But remember, we're just racist for not wanting Bonds to break the home run record of another african-american, right ESPN?

It'll be really difficult for the democrats to not take the highest office in the land come November of 2008, regardless of who their candidate is. Bush has simply done too much for any republican to overcome. -
Now any of you like me who have facebook (which based on the age of most on the boards is the majority I've assumed) have seen the utter bulls*** threads/groups/events about not buying gas on May 15th in protest of gas prices. Now to me, this is THE dumbest thing I've ever seen in terms of a "protest". Do these losers REALLY think buying gas on the 14th or 16th instead of the 15th and still giving their money to the gas companies will make a difference? The ignorance of this whole protest is astonishing to me, not to mention the fact that nobody purchases gas more than on 2 days a week, thus odds are you wouldn't buy gas on May 15th even if you had no idea about this protest. If you want gas prices to change, tell your state to quit taxing the hell out of it and forcing the individual gas stations to sell the stuff at several percent above market value in additon to the taxes. And if you want a real protest, get a big thing where a lot of people spend a week walking/biking/using public transportation to get around. That way, people eliminate a gas cycle and then the oil tycoons ACTUALLY lose something. /rant against ignorance ends here

QUOTE(Damen @ May 14, 2007 -> 01:44 PM) I find some of the commetns here hilarious. You've bought into these absurd caricatures of these people absent any real evidence. What proof is there, exactly, of this ruthless Clinton smear machine? How, exactly, did Obama become "deceitful"? How has he pandered? You really don't follow politics much, do you? -

Not a surprise, it's kinda a little known fact that his original nickname of "The Kid" was much more about how much of a practical joker he is than it was his age (although it fit in both cases). He is one of the real good guys in the game, and obviously when you consider he is going to retire with 600 homers and double digit gold gloves and people will STILL say "what if he had stayed healthy?"....he's pretty good. -
BUMPED::::::Toby Hall Possibly out for the season
whitesoxfan101 replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Toby just hit a 3 run homer off a lefty pitcher in the 4th inning of Charlotte's game today. -
Toby Hall has left the building with a 3 run homer (and he hit it off a lefty, who knew?) 3-2 Knights heading to the 5th. Also, amazingly, Heath had allowed 5 hits and 5 walks in the first 3 innings, yet he only gave up 2 runs and has 4 k's (and he just threw a perfect top of the 4th).

QUOTE(kapkomet @ May 14, 2007 -> 11:43 AM) His (lack of) substance at this point is by design. He will start to veer hard left before the primary and turn back if it looks like he has a chance to win the nomination. I think he has a huge challenge and it will be interesting as this plays out, but I just wish it was 9 months from now, and not now, if that makes sense. Your 100 percent right on part 1, which is the dominant reason why I dislike him so much. He's using his skilled speechwork (with the exception of quotes like the one that started this thread, lol) to avoid all issues and substance and pander to everybody, which I cannot stand. I would even contest he is using his race to an extent subconsiously, I honestly think people who don't approve of him will be called racist by his supporters, and he likes it that way. And part 2 indeed does make sense. Of course he is, the guy is a deceitful, well spoken young person who avoids all issues and tries to cater to everybody. That is why the politicians love him so much, he's a taylor made snake who can cause a lot of people to fall into his trap. I don't like Hillary at all, but at least I know what she is, and I can respect the fact she has her opinions, even if I don't like them. I don't have a clue what Obama actually thinks, which is scary if what he thinks is actually nuts (possible) or he has no real thoughts at all (also possible). -

QUOTE(kapkomet @ May 14, 2007 -> 10:36 AM) The only reason why I don't think he has too much of a shot is because I think there's going to be some dirt come out on him (from *AHEM* Republicans - but not really) about two weeks before N.H. and Iowa. Then, some more will come out right before super-duper-pooper-super-mega-win it all-you can't possibly lose this- Tuesday... the Clintons aren't stupid. And, I will add that I think this is what's wrong with politics today. It's not substance, it's about keeping your nose cleaner then the other guy (or gal). I agree 100 percent with all of this, thanks for explaining it better than I could kapkomet (although I question the amount of real substance Obama has too, emphasis on "real"). -
Rumor has it the boys finally released their 1998 top prospect list, however they are trying to keep that on the down low due to the fact they had Mike Caruso and Kip Wells ranked ahead of Carlos Lee and Mark Buehrle, and were also bewildered as to why we'd trade a solid RP like Matt Karchner for a kid with a low minor league k/9 ratio named Jon Garland. They also think trading a great young CF like Mike Cameron for a apparent bust named Konerko is another example in many reasons why we haven't won it all since 1917.

Well since finals are over, my job doesn't start until a week from today, and Charlotte starts at 11:15 AM today (and Kanny starts a doubleheader at 4:05), figured I'd fire up the roundup thread today. Knights host Norfolk at 11:15 AM (Heath on the bump vs. Garrett Olson) Birmingham tries to rebound from last night, hosting Mississippi at 7:05 in Hoover with Gio on the mound vs. Francisley Bueno, who has been pretty malo in letting opponents hit .301 against him this year (I had to...I'm sorry, couldn't resist, lol). Winston-Salem hosts Salem (I sure love when they play, that's not confusing) at 6 Kanny has a doubleheader at Savannah, game 1 is a 4:05 start

I was at "Massacre on the Marquis" last year at The Cell, what a great time. Anyways, maybe the team that did that to Marquis can remind him just how much of a fluke what he has done this year has been. I'm looking for SOME recipe to wake up the bats after all, maybe that is it.

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 14, 2007 -> 09:29 AM) Iguchi has 1,050 at-bats out of the 2 hole in his career...in other spots this year: #5 0 for 4=0 #6 3 for 12=.250 #7 3 for 15=.200 #8 3 for 20=.150 That's 9 for 51 (.176) outside the 2 spot and .255 in that position in the order. However, Ozuna had made a huge baserunning blunder, taking himself out of a guaranteed run on the throw from Teahen in Konerko's pop-up to RF. I wonder if that had anything to do with it? That was the smallest point in my post, but Ozuna is much faster, and people seem to be forgetting that Terrero had a horrible read and late break on Dye's single, making it much closer than it should have been at the plate (I know it wasn't that close, but if that throw doesn't die when it hits the turf, it would have been).

The fact that people think Obama can defeat Hilary is pretty funny to me. Not to say I am a Hilary fan either, but Obama can't beat her, poll numbers be damned (because we know how much those matter). -
Anybody who believes part of the job for a #2 hitter is to take pitches, quite a few of which are good to hit, in order to allow the low percentage play of a stolen base attempt to occur and fall behind in the count simply has a flawed logic about the game of baseball. And that includes Ozzie. And to say Uribe strikes out too much to hit #2 when Iguchi has been your #2 hitter (and a good one at that in 2005 and 2006) is simply ignorant. Not as ignorant as his comment on Terrero, who should not have even been the pinch runner there (Ozuna), but pretty ignorant. Sadly, also not surprising.

The fact they had Ponson in the rotation over any of those is bewildering, to say the least.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ May 13, 2007 -> 05:40 PM) Kirk Hinrich carried us today. What a game on both sides of the floor. Pretty big win. 1 game at a time. Kirk, Luol, and Big Ben were all awesome. Gordon, Nocioni, and Duhon continue to be useless though, and P.J. continued to build on his 2nd half momentum the other night with today's stinker. -
Birmingham loses 14-3. Russell was awful (4 IP, 6 hits, 8 runs (7 earned), 5 walks, 2 k's) and Wing gave up a run for the first time in a while with 1.1 IP, 2 k's, 2 hits, 1 run allowed. Eduardo Sierra was also awful (0.2 IP, 2 k's, 3 walks, 2 hits, 4 runs earned). Getz 1 for 3 with a run and walk, Lucy 0 for 2, Nanita 1 for 4 with a double. Charlotte lost 4-1, as Hall's homer was the only offense. Anderson 1 for 4 with a double and no k's. Fields 0 for 3 with 3 k's and a walk. Owens 2 for 4 with 2 singles. Nunez gave up 2 runs in 7 innings on a 2 run homer, with 2 walks, 6 hits, and 5 k's. Reynoso with a rare poor outing, 2 runs (1 earned) in 1 and a third. Winston-Salem lost 3-0. Cunningham continues to slump, 0 for 4 with a k, Schurstein continues to be hot, 2 for 4 with 2 doubles. McCullough was ok, 6 innings, 3 hits, 2 walks, 3 k's, 2 runs earned. Kanny won 5-1. Shelby was 1 for 4 with a walk and RBI playing CF again. Carter 1 for 5 with a single. Lee Cruz was 2 for 4 with a double, triple, and RBI. Richard Brooks pitched well, but only 1 k in 6 innings (although also only 1 run, 4 hits, 2 walks). Noe Rodriguez lowered his ERA to 2.08 with a scoreless 7th, but he allowed the bases to become loaded on a hit and 2 walks and had no k's.

If you can somehow get lucky in game 5 (which is possible, based on some of the shooting nights this team has had this year) and get it back here for game 6, your a home court win away from forcing a do or die game. Hey, I gotta be positive right? But I think today's game makes it official that game 3 will haunt the Bulls and us fans all summer, if nothing else. Why wasn't Tyrus in for P.J. in the 4th of game 3? It might have been the difference...(and yes, I know P.J. had a double double in game 3, but he finished with 10 and 10 and had 8 and 8 at halftime, so yeah..) QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 13, 2007 -> 04:25 PM) Every crowd at a Bulls game is an embarrassment. OMG MOTHER f***ING DONUT RACE *5 minutes left in game 3 Bulls down 5* OMG THERE ARE f***ING T SHIRTS FALLING FROM THE CEILING!!!!!!! For sure. Sellout every night, but it seems like the fanbase is still happy with what happened last decade. No hunger at all. -
QUOTE(Brian @ May 13, 2007 -> 05:27 PM) Giants called up rookie Fred Lewis today and started in his first major league game...oh yeah, he hit for the cycle!!! Wow, that's amazing!! Congrats!! Also, the Marlins did the unthinkable and were swept by the Washington Nationals, putting their 120 loss pace in jeopardy.
