QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 11, 2007 -> 10:18 PM) Is Schnurstein viewed by anyone as more of a prospect than, say, Casey Rogowski? Seems like he has been in the low minors for five years. I'm still mystified why we didn't take Garza over Broadway...well, Broadway probably carries a little more "cache" than we think as a former first rounder, that's worth a little premium I guess. Would like to see them clear Phillips, Malone, Rogowski and Lopez from the organization and move some of the younger prospects up...would also like to see Andy Gonzalez get a chance to take Cintron's spot, but we'll have to wait until 2008 for that move. Agreed 100 percent on line 3. And no, Schnustein is no more a prospect than Rogowski, but hopefully he stays hot so we can dump him off to somebody else as part of getting something nice in a trade, avoiding giving up a better prospect (which we should have done with Rogowski). And I am still not sold on Garza. We probably should have took him over Broadway, but I'm not sold.

That's a White Sox winner !!!
I could probably hold our offense to 4 runs over 7 innings if I threw lefty (and we get another one Sunday, Javy better toss a shutout) but they all count. Elarton has been ok against us in his career, so hopefully we bring the bats for once tomorrow (I'd assume he'll be rusty, first start all year).

AAP: Fautino De Los Santos
Kanny 2007: 2-1 with a 1.76 ERA. 12 hits allowed (no homers) in 30.2 IP, 15 walks and 33 k's. Those numbers would indicate some overpowering stuff, still working on the control a bit (no walks in 6 innings tonight helps). Just turned 21 a few months ago.

5/11 games
Birmingham won a very well pitched game 2-1 (which was inevitable after last nights 12-11 pitching abomination). Wes Whisler has a nice outing to get his first win (7 IP, 5 hits, 2 walks, 6 k's, 1 run) and Oneli got a scoreless 2 inning save. Getz 2 for 4 with 2 singles, Lucy 0 for 3. Collaro hit a homer to tie it and it was won on the always exciting run scoring double play. (Charlotte piled on late to win 7-1, btw). W-S won 12-2. The big lefty Clayton Richard threw 6 scoreless (4 hits, 2 walks, 6 k's) for the win, he's pitched pretty well. Omogrosso threw a perfect 9th with 2 k's. Cunningham was 1 for 6 with 2 k's, but also had a 2 run homer. Schnurstein was really good again, 3 for 6 with a double and solo homer. Roberts was 4 for 6 with a homer and 3 RBI. Kanny won 6-0. De Los Santos with 6 scoreless (2 hits, no walks, 8 k's) to go to 2-1 with a 1.76. He's allowed 12 hits (no homers) in 30.2 IP, with 15 walks and 33 k's (nice to see the good control tonight). Pretty incredible splits. Carter was 1 for 3 with a walk, RBI double, strikeout, and run. Shelby led off and was in CF again, 0 for 4 with a walk and run scored. Ugh. Great pitched night for every team in the organization tonight, wow (5 teams, 5 runs allowed). As for Broadway, he's still young, has good control, and is putting up a very good ERA in a hitters paradise. He seems like trade bait to me.

White Sox vs. Royals, 5/11/07 (W)
We really need a sweep. Time to distance ourselves from .500.

The Sabres need to quit making 38 passes a possesion and get the puck to the net. Can't score if you don't shoot.

Braves meet with Rainbow/PUSH officials
Jesse Jackson and Louis Farrakhan's deaths will do more for African-Americans in this country than any event since the death of the great Dr. King. What idiots. Why aren't they meeting with hockey teams about this?? The issue in 1947 was that blacks were not allowed to play, the issue in 2007 is that blacks CHOOSE not to play. Baseball is doing what it can to promote the game in African-American areas, and if that doesn't get kids to play, what else do you want? Kick white players out?

Alcohol in the Clubhouse
I don't know what I think of the idea of alcohol in the clubhouse, but I do know that getting rid of it isn't going to stop anybody from driving drunk. Alcohol in the clubhouse had nothing to do with what happened to Josh Hancock, and plus, if somebody is going to be dumb enough to drive drunk they won't need alcohol after the game to do it. And these guys are millionaires, them being able to get home or wherever they are going without having to drive is not the issue. Them being stupid is.

2007 AL Central Catch-All Thread
Sowers simply doesn't strike enough guys out (even a guy like Buehrle does it enough to keep people honest) to be anymore than a 4 or 5 starter. His success last year was due to a inordinate amount of success of balls put into play, and that has regressed to the means this year.

To call Thabo a bust is completely ridiculous. He showed more promise than Tyrus did in terms of being an all around player when he got a chance this year. I personally think they'll both be good players, although we may regret passing on Brandon Roy.

The loss to the Nets only means this happens in the semis instead of the ECF. At least this is a slightly lesser stage to get pantsed on.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 10, 2007 -> 10:48 PM) Willie probably doesn't have his hand anymore. Yeah but that has nothing to do with tonight's game. (Sorry, that was too easy).

I think Hinrich can be useful as a point if you get a big, good 2, plus little Ben has way more trade value and you save a lot of future cap room if he's gone. Time to deal Gordon.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 10, 2007 -> 10:31 PM) If you ever f***ing wonder why people give you s*** from time to time, here's why. You were right all along... give me a f***ing break. 1. I really have no level of care for what people think of me on a message board since it's a message board. 2. When did I say this team would do anymore than get to Detroit and lose in the playoffs? I'm surprised they are going to get swept, but that's about it.

All this team has is Deng and Big Ben (and maybe Tyrus and Thabo, but our great coach won't play them). Let's have a good draft, hope a guard is traded, and hope Skiles resigns.

Official 2006-2007 NBA Discussion Thread
The Bulls have no heart or balls, they have a horrible coach, their guards are too small, no inside scorer. I was right about us all year after all, just got lucky to play the washed up Heat in the 1st round. If not for that, New Jersey beats us in round 1.

QUOTE(southsida86 @ May 10, 2007 -> 09:46 PM) Why is Egbert not a prospect, Heads? please explain it to me. T'was sarcasm, sir. Jacksonville has defeated Birmingham, 12-11. Sierra gave up 3 in the bottom of the 8th to blow a 11-9 lead and turn it into a loss. Egbert sucked, Sierra sucked, Wing gave up 2 runs in 2 innings, but neither was earned so his ERA is down to 1.29. Egbert's ERA rose to an unacceptable 2.61. Getz 3 for 5 with an RBI, Lucy (who DH'd tonight) was 2 for 3 with a double and 2 walks, Nanita 2 for 5 with a double and 2 RBI. Barons made 5 errors tonight, so the bad pitching didn't get any help behind them.

The Pistons have awakened from their slumber, it's a 5 point game, late 3rd. Let's see if this team has any balls (I'm not betting on it).

5/10 Games
Hopefully Egbert can respond as well as Gio did. And that game is 12-11 in the 8th last I saw a moment ago, wow, NOBODY can get an out. Also, Charlotte FINALLY hit the damn ball and won 12-1. Owens 1 for 4 with a walk, BA 1 for 3 with 2 walks and a k, Fields 2 for 4 with a walk and 4 RBI's, Wiki with a homer (#5). Kanny wins 8-4 behind Jacob Rasner, and Carter was 2 for 5 with a double, triple, and 3 RBI's. Winston-Salem wins 8-6. Lujan with a perfect 9th and 1 k for his 3rd save. Cunningham 0 for 4 with a walk and 2 k's. Micah Schnurstein continues to kill the ball, 2 for 5 with a homer (#9 on the year).

McCarthy Watch
104 pitches to get through 5 and a third and get the ERA all the way down to 6.90. I'm impressed.

And that's another White Sox winner!!!
QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 10, 2007 -> 04:38 PM) We're still a month away from any talk of Podsednik returning anyway. So this really shouldn't be an issue until atleast mid June. I don't see why Thome returning would threaten Sweeney's playing time. Ahh yeah that's a good point, braincramp on my part. Then this talk really is stupid, isn't it?

QUOTE(fullcollapse @ May 10, 2007 -> 04:34 PM) how did sweeny look in center today?. if he can play a half way decent center field there is absolutely no reason for terrero to be on the 25 man. Sweeney will not play everyday over Pods or Erstad with our manager, and we're not using him as a part time player and costing him at bats. He's going back to AAA when we are healthy, the sooner people deal with it (regardless of if you like it or not), the better.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 10, 2007 -> 04:29 PM) Expect at least 28 k's, he's too nasty to not have a dropped 3rd strike somewhere in there. Yeah at some point he'll get bored and scissor kick the catcher to force a dropped one, so I see your point.

5/10 Games
Egbert is going to become the first man since Steve Nebraska to throw a no hitter with 27 k's tonight.
