  1. Masset might need to be sent down, but other than that today's game had no long term redeeming qualities that we didn't know before it started. At least we came back last night and won the series, and the Yankees have 3 righties going against us.
  2. 8 righties (including each of the first 6 guys) and 1 lefty against De La Rosa. Here are some stats up until today on De La Rosa 2007: vs. righties: .250 ba, 1.14 WHIP vs. lefties: .387 ba, 2.25 WHIP Hell, how about CAREER on De La Rosa: vs. righties: .272 ba, 1.65 WHIP vs. lefties: .300 ba, 1.93 WHIP And you play an all righty lineup except Sweeney? With an off day tomorrow? (and we've had several lately). Did it cause use to lose? I doubt it with the performance of our bullpen, but that violates the "put your team in the best position to win" clause of the contract.
  3. http://www.chicagohoops.com/articles1/fruendtnw.html That's a GREAT get for Northwestern, Fruendt is a really good ballplayer, impressive to see in person. I also believe he's a 150 player on Rivals, first time I can remember Northwestern getting one of those since uber bust Michael Thompson transferred in from Duke. They also had a nice 2007 class and got a verbal a couple of days ago from a 2008 guy. Carmody FINALLY getting some players, they already have Coble who I really like and Nash is at least a highly regarded kid.
  4. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ May 13, 2007 -> 11:18 AM) For Matsuzaka, "#4/#5 starter"=bustbustbust. I think most realistic baseball people knew he'd have some problems over here. His offspeed stuff is awesome, but he has an average (at best) fastball which major league hitters simply knock the tar out of.
  5. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 13, 2007 -> 11:28 AM) Good point. I think sometimes people forget these guys are human, and like the rest of us, they take their personal problems to work with them. Having a parent/grandparent dying is one of the most stressful things there is. Yeah he's the one hitter I've tried to lay off as much as possible. He's never been a great fielder, but he's a solid off the bench bat and clutch hitter. The fact he's hit so poorly and had this going on at the same time isn't an accident.
  6. When will he be fired......if the Royals shut us out 3 times in a row will it be enough? Everyday we keep Walker, I become more concerned about just how smart Kenny Williams is. It's borderline embarassing Walker still has a job.
  7. QUOTE(Jimbo @ May 13, 2007 -> 01:54 AM) should i pick up hunter pence? He's going to be really good, I'd take a flier on him if I were you and you need someone.
  8. QUOTE(Jimbo @ May 13, 2007 -> 12:31 AM) Is Gwynn Jr worth a stab in fantasy? Not yet, that OF is still too crowded. QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 13, 2007 -> 01:16 AM) And no one noticed, I guarantee it. Sad. Well I'm a baseball nerd and I noticed it and was impressed. That made even the most spectacular of losses by Iowa State look tame. I actually laughed it was so amazing. That is what makes the game great, weird ish like that.
  9. The Marlins lost a game in what may have been as spectacular fashion as I've ever seen tonight. After 3 hours and 38 minutes in rain delays and a 3 hour game that ended at 1:45 AM local time, the Marlins lose 7-3 at Washington. They left 12 men on base, gave up an inside the park homer on a misplay, and STILL led 3-2 going to the last of the 9th. An RBI single tied it, Christian Guzman did what Christian Guzman does though and struck out with bases loaded one out and the game now tied. With 2 outs and the bases loaded, the Marlins brought in Jorge Julio, who is having one of the worst years I've ever seen a guy have out of the pen. He then proceeds to nearly hit Marlin killer Ryan Zimmerman on the first pitch, and then serves up a fastball on a tee the 2nd pitch, which is deposited over the left field wall for a walk off grand slam. Amazing.
  10. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 12, 2007 -> 11:32 PM) Tough to shoot when you're playing most of the game in the other team's zone... Yeah that was the issue in OT, they got their asses handed to them.
  11. 4 for 5 tonight, .467 average. If we kept Willie, we'd be undefeated Also, the "throw in" as part of Mr. Gyroball, Hideki Okajima, has been amazing this year, has to be a ROY candidate. 1.2 scoreless allowing 2 hits and 1 k today gets his ERA to 0.48. In fact, the ONLY RUN he's allowed all year was a home run on opening day (April 2nd) by John Buck. In 18.2 IP, he's allowed 9 hits, and has 4 walks and 22 k's. He also entered today with the oft seen higher WHIP (0.65) than ERA (0.53), and today's results will see that trend live on.
  12. I think Cintron's struggles and this bereavement list stuff are not a coincidence, his mind is elsewhere. Take care of your mind Alex and get back here as focused as possible.
  13. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 12, 2007 -> 10:00 PM) I think Shelby has a chance to be a nice player. Too bad he or Getz isn't ready to play for Iguchi right now. Gonzalez profiles as a utility player, at best. Shelby has been playing in CF everyday here lately, so the organization seems to be going in a different direction with him. I personally am not a fan at all, but I really like what Getz is doing. Schnurstein and Carter are RAKING right now, we might want to consider sending them up another level, especially considering the lack of 1B production at Birmingham. Good to see Honel pitched so well tonight, and also good to see that Haeger and Fields appear to be awakening from their slumber.
  14. Sabres take 15 shots in the 1st period, score twice. They take 5 in the 2nd, 8 in the 3rd, and 9 in 25 minutes of OT and score 1 time. Shoot the puck boys (although it's too late now, 2-0 heading on the road=toast).
  15. QUOTE(BearSox @ May 12, 2007 -> 09:53 PM) I see Chris Young putting up similar numbers to Mike Cameron at his best. Nothing wrong with that, but not studly. That is correct, and if Javy keeps pitching as well as he had and should, this trade won't be one we regret.
  16. I'd hit Sweeney leadoff and Uribe #2 for a while with the way things are going right now. Hell, we can't be any worse on offense, try it.
  17. Our 2 best hitters right now are Ryan Sweeney and Juan Uribe. Why you ask? Because they are letting the ball get deep, hitting fastballs the other way and then unloading on the crappy off speed pitches and yanking them. THAT is how you get out of a slump boys, maybe Greg Walker doesn't realize that (hence his job should have been taken away), but Juan Uribe and Ryan Sweeney seem to. Try it sometime.
  18. Our 3 best hitters right now are Ryan Sweeney, Juan Uribe, and Darin Erstad (and NOBODY else is hitting). The fact we are 18-15 is an all out miracle, if we EVER hit even close to our potential we have a chance to do big things. Get the damn sweep tomorrow.
  19. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ May 12, 2007 -> 03:27 PM) .359/.440/.547 --- 5 HRs/16 RBIs --- 22 Runs/35 Games Who is that? Aaron Rowand! Keep chugging little buddy! Keep it up! Rowand and Hardy are in the "offensive numbers don't pass the smell test" boat, if you catch my drift.
  20. Young has been a big disappointment this year, although it's still early and half of his hits have been for extra bases. A .292 OBP and 6 walks in 126 appearances though, yuck.
  21. J.J. Hardy with homer #11, RBI #34, and run scored #25 to get his average to .333 on a grand slam that put a 12-3 Brewers win at the Mets out of reach. Now he's been amazing, but this is a guy that had 25 home runs and a 737 OPS in 1122 minor league at bats. Color me suspecious. Still glad the Brewers are doing well. Tony Gwynn Jr. lead off and played RF, going 3 for 5 to improve his average to .406 in 32 at bats, Prince was 2 for 4 with a double, even Craig Counsell and Tony Graffanino got into the act hitting (although the previously red hot Geoff Jenkins was 0 for 5 with 7 left on base, ouch).
  22. Hasek saved the day, Detroit got their ass kicked in that game otherwise, and it was still pretty flukeish that they won. Anaheim will kick themselves looking back at this one if Detroit advances.
  23. Yeah they do the no fireworks thing for the dogs (I went to dog day last year). And trust me, from a guy who lives at a house with 3 dogs (hooray summer), that is a very wise choice.
  24. QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ May 12, 2007 -> 01:53 AM) Does anybody else agree with me that the NBA needs to re-seed the playoffs after the first round like the NHL does? It sucks having possibly the two best teams left (Spurs-Suns) play in the second round. Oh without question I agree. It works out for the fans this year because I think both west series will be 6 or 7 game classics, and in the east the finals should be really good as the 2 best teams by far will play in the Cavs and Pistons. But they need to re-seed, for sure.
  25. I'm not sure it's even possible to win a game at that place right now. What a madhouse, another blowout W for Golden State in Oakland. Late game edit note: Baron with the dunk of the postseason so far on Kirilenko. OMG.
