  1. Egbert is going to become the first man since Steve Nebraska to throw a no hitter with 27 k's tonight.
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ May 10, 2007 -> 02:36 PM) I'll always love him for his at-bat against Lidge in the 8th. Him and Blum are definitely guys I'll always root for. ^^^^^^^^ Cubs lose 2 of 3 at home to the Pirates btw, and are now I think 7 behind the Brewers and even .500. Hold off on buying World Series tickets, Cub fans.
  3. They showed during the broadcast this is the longest streak of 6 inning stars we've had since like the late 70's or early 80's. Impressive.
  4. Ozzie made up for his horrible decision to pitch to Morneau in the 10th on Tuesday by leaving Count in today. Should have been a sweep, but can't argue with 2 of 3 at Minnesota.
  5. I'll be rushing home after my mid morning final I'm about to leave for to catch the last half of this game (last final, wooo!!!!) Get us a series win, Count.
  6. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ May 10, 2007 -> 09:18 AM) Right...and when was the bicentenial? He misspoke. Big deal. He has now missed on a tornado death toll by 9,988 and claimed his birth wouldn't have been possible without an event 4 years after his birth. That's pretty bad, lol.
  7. The ball Crede hit in game 1 was CRUSHED and only made it to the 2nd row. My commented to my friend I was watching the game with immediately after it landed that "Crede hit that one through a stiff breeze, so I'm really impressed". So I can see Ozzie's thought process here.
  8. Gio back to normal is nice. Carter continues to be ON FIRE, and I am really starting to like what I see from Justin Edwards, another sub 6 foot lefty pitching prospect, which is interesting (and another mighty mite lefty who pitched in relief in that game, Noe Rodriguez, has been really good so far this year for Kanny). Also, Cunningham has been slumping a bit. 1 for 4 last night has him at .322, but he was at .350 just a few days back, and his OPS has dipped just a bit under 900 now. QUOTE(SoxAce @ May 9, 2007 -> 06:36 PM) I gotta start keeping my eye on Lujan. Yeah, 10 scoreless in a row. He's been on a roll.
  9. IF (and only if) this were to mean Sweeney gets AB's in LF at Charlotte the rest of the year and then takes Pods spot in LF on opening day next year, I'm ok with it. Otherwise, hell no.
  10. QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 9, 2007 -> 11:21 PM) There's our stud lefty pitching prospect, Flash. We didn't sign him from Latin American, thus he does not count as a stud prospect.
  11. QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 8, 2007 -> 06:07 PM) Darius Miller has a short list and here are the schools: Duke, Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky and Louisville. Source: Me I had heard as much, but thanks for clarifying. Rivals had a story yesterday about Jennings saying Illinois is in his top 3, that list isn't updated. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 8, 2007 -> 04:38 PM) There will be something wrong if Roundtree isn't in the top 150 soon, anyone who has seen him play can vouch for that. CLo was worth every penny and more that he got. The fact that Fay never made the 150 was a joke, anyone that saw him play could vouch for that. And for sure your right on CLo.
  12. Great couple of games. I thought GSW would win the series, but that was based on I thought they'd steal 1 of the first 2. I still think this is going to be a long series, but now I say Utah wins it and GSW looks back at the blown chances in the first 2 games with regret.
  13. This should have happened a long, long time ago. We finally didn't f*** it up for him this time, so congrats John!
  14. http://www.nbc5.com/politics/13288631/deta...l=headlineclick This is the same man who said he wouldn't have been born without the 1965 march in Selma, Alabama. Too bad he was born in 1961. Keep being the cool, young, and black candidate that everybody has to love because he's those 3 things, and try to talk as little as possible, Barack. The more you speak, the more we learn. And that part of your campaign is not going well.
  15. The fact that a recruit named a final THIRTEEN makes me feel even sicker about the recruiting process than I normally do. Also, the new Rivals 150 is out for the class of 2008. Fresh new SIU verbal Kevin Dillard comes in at #148. #4, #22, #45, #112, and #114 are Ohio State verbals, Michigan State, Indiana, and Wisconsin have two #100's each. Of Illinois interest, DeAndre Liggins is a 5 star at #18, Darius Miller at #29, Iman Shumpert at #41, Michael Dunigan at #59, John Brandenburg at #63, Scott Suggs at #72, Josh Crittle at #95, Verdell Jones at #102 (although he's going to KU it appears), Paul Williams at #127, and Lewis Jackson at #139. I HOPE with as many guys with Illinois on their list as their is, this will be a really good class. I think it will be. Liggins, Shumpert, Suggs, and Brandenburg are my 4 favorites personally. If we just took all guards and/or wings in 2008 I'd be happy though, we have plenty of bigs.
  16. Part of what I like about Danks is he pitches differently with men on base than with the bases empty. Other than the Morneau pitch, he really has made almost no mistakes with men on base, but he attacks when the bases are empty and won't just give you free baserunners. I can live with the solo home runs for sure.
  17. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 8, 2007 -> 11:13 AM) You know what? I would say there is actually an argument against this, although I'm a bit too busy to prove it. It could be argued that exactly the things which give moneyball in terms of its OBP/OPS focus an advantage in the regular season could wind up counting as disadvantages during the postseason. Moneyball, in its original form focusing on the undervaluing of OBP, focused a lot of effort on guys who could pile up the walks and therefore work to high OBP's and high pitch counts. Against average pitching staffs, this seems like exactly what you'd want to do. Against a moderate to poor pitcher, if you go up there looking to take pitches every at bat, you're going to wind up on base all the time. But in the playoffs, the caliber of opponent goes up dramatically. You're no longer facing the pitching staffs of the Royals, the Mariners, etc. You're no longer seeing #5 starters except out of the bullpen. You're no longer seeing pitchers making their ML debuts or pitching staffs who are struggling. You go from facing random pitchers to seeing Johan 2x in a 5 game series. Its entirely possible that the value formulation could and in fact should change somewhat when you raise the caliber of opponent. If your team suddenly starts facing pitchers who just don't walk people, and your team is geared around the walk, bloop, blast mentality, and you have no ability to manufacture runs in other ways, you could find your former advantage turned into a disadvantage. This isn't necessarily why the A's haven't won, I'm sure there's data that could either back it up or argue against it, but it's at least worth considering. The reason the A's have never won was that their best teams, by far, lost years ago. Their best chance to win were their early 2000's teams that had Tejada, Chavez, Giambi, Hudson, Mulder, Zito, etc.....but they ran into the 2000 and 2001 Yankees back when those Yankee teams were still awesome, and in 2002 they suffered that shocking upset loss to Minnesota (although Giambi was gone by that year). QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 8, 2007 -> 09:52 AM) I don't care what anyone says, for the most part that's bulls***. There are exceptions to the rule but to say you just have to luck your way to winning a world series is nonsense. You don't luck your way into the playoffs, but you luck your way to winning a World Series. Even our great championship team, which went 11-1 in the postseason, very well could have headed to Anaheim down 2-0 if not for the horrendous umpiring of Doug Edings. Your telling me the 83 win Cardinals winning it all and getting 6 errors in 5 games from Tiger pitching wasn't luck? Your telling me coming down from 0-3 against the Yankees, with the last 2 games in New York, isn't luck? Your telling me the Bartman incident wasn't luck? Your telling me Dusty Baker's bad pitching staff decisions (SEE: Ortiz, Russ) leading to an Anaheim rally wasn't luck? Your telling me Mariano Rivera BLOWING GAME 7 OF THE WORLD SERIES wasn't luck? Let's face it, to win it all you have to be great but you also have to be lucky at some point in time. That's how it works, period. Those World Champions were great teams which is why they took advantage of those lucky breaks, but the lucky breaks had to present themself in the first place. Exactly. The Marlins have won ZERO division titles in their history and have 2 World Titles, the Braves won 14 in a row and have 1 to show for that timespan. If that isn't luck I don't know what is.
  18. Other than the lack of talent we got back for Freddy, I'm not sure what fan with a brain was whining about those moves.
  19. I have no idea what the hell happened to him, but he's been strange. He's looked worse in the field everytime I see him, but is now amazing at the plate. I hope that combination doesn't mean for what it means for most guys who fall into that pattern as their career goes on.....but anyways, he's having a great year.
  20. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ May 8, 2007 -> 03:08 AM) I guess the Jazz did keep up for another 24 minutes. Great game! Oh to the contrary. The 3rd quarter was much lower scoring and slower paced. The pace picked up in the 4th quarter again, but between the "breather" the Jazz got at halftime and during the 3rd quarter (along with some nice bench help), they had the juice in the 4th quarter to get the win. That and the Warriors shot the ball very poorly after halftime.
  21. Alabama Arizona Arkansas California Connecticut Florida Georgia Illinois Indiana Iowa Kansas Kentucky Louisiana Maryland Massachuesetts Michigan Minnesota Mississippi Missouri Nevada New Jersey New York Ohio Oklahoma Pennsylvania Rhode Island Tennessee Texas Virginia West Virginia Wisconsin District of Columbia So 31 states and D.C. by age 21. Not bad.
  22. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ May 7, 2007 -> 10:51 PM) How successful has moneyball been in winning a WS or even getting to one? Dumb argument. Getting to the playoffs is all about the GM and all that, once you get there, it's purely a matter of luck. There is no scientific way to win in the playoffs, basically you have to get hot and you have to get lucky. To blame moneyball for that is simply nonsense.
  23. It's the dome. At the dome and at the coliseum, just get 2 of 3 and i'm happy. All I want is a series win and for us to FINALLY support Danks. But a sweep would be nice
  24. I know i'm late on this, but that Rangers/Sabres game 6 was as good a hockey game as i've seen in a while (and i catch a lot of playoff games). Very enjoyable stuff.
