  1. QUOTE(thedoctor @ May 19, 2007 -> 11:25 AM) i dunno about that. what do you base "illini's to lose" or he was "begging" to come to illinois on? if that basis is on articles on illinois recruiting sites, you know as well as i do that any story on a particular teams site is going to be slanted to those schools. most of those boards' "reporters" are little more than homer fans who have some phone numbers. i don't know what happened with the tucker recruitment, but i'm fairly certain it's a mischaracterization to say he was an illinois "lock" or anything of that sort. he liked the school, but only after a few of his other options (louisville, msu in particular) dried up. all that said, it was indeed another illinois recruiting loss so that is on weber. i just think you're overplaying how much he wanted to come to illinois. no one but dar and people around him really know that. and as sleepy said, you have to give credit where it's due. wainwright's done a great job recruiting. he's just challenged in other areas. I don't say things based on what the recruiting sites say, everybody around here knows that by now, I have better sources than that nonsense. Tucker not coming to Illinois was 100 percent Bruce's choice, maybe "begging" was exaggerating, but he's at Illinois is Bruce had opened a spot for him instead of praying for Rose.
  2. QUOTE(BearSox @ May 19, 2007 -> 11:24 AM) It's funny. Sweeney goes on a little funk, now he isn't ready and everyone wants him sent down. Just a week ago he was our best hitter and everyone was like he should start in LF for the whole year. Sweeney isn't ready, his good start didn't change that. The only that that has looked different during his funk is his swing and being too aggressive, thanks to our wonderful hitting coach.
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ May 19, 2007 -> 11:04 AM) Wind blowing out doesn't favor us today. If it's a true out wind and not just swirling gusts, it sure does. We hit all kinds of flyouts that would be homers on days like that on a game by game basis.
  4. If we win today, we win 2 of 3. If we lose today, we get swept. I hope it's the former.
  5. Wite also explained to himself why Day probably won't ever make it up here. He is 26 (or is it 27? I just remember his DOB is 1980) and although he has an electric fastball and slider (hence all the k's), he has no control of it (hence all the hits allowed). Unless he learns some semblance of control inside the strike zone, he's stuck in the minors.
  6. I don't get why anybody would NOT want to debate Moore. Moore is a pretty ignorant tool, and if you know your stuff, a debate with him is an easy victory.
  7. To me, the term "gay" isn't even demeaning towards homosexual people in terms of how it is used now, at all. If you use the word "f**", that is when you are trying to be demeaning towards said people IMO, but like YASNY said, "that's gay" is basically the same as that's stupid now, just as "that sucks" has taken a different meaning over the years. One day, people will understand that what's people intent is is FAR more important than the words themselves (although I admit, strangers don't know the intent of other strangers, even if it is not bad intent, which is a big problem as well). However, I agree with the judge in this case for sure.
  8. Carmona has always had good stuff, but I just had questions as to if he could recover from the combination of 1-12 and his infamous closer stint. I give him credit for his mental toughness, and he is being rewarded for it. It's a really good story actually, or at least I think it is.
  9. I personally don't want Thome playing every game the rest of the year once he's back next week, and I don't want A.J. out there everyday either, they both need to get some rest. When you combine that with both aren't that great against lefties and Hall is, I can see why Hall would get AB's at DH and catcher.
  10. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ May 19, 2007 -> 12:40 AM) Have to give Coach Wainwright credit where it's due for outrecruiting very good programs for both Mac Koshwal and Dar Tucker. I'm excited about our top 10 class coming in (well, now, hopefully). Wainwright has done a really good job recruiting, but Tucker was the Illini's to lose, that is until they decided they didn't want to take Tucker because it was a lock that either Rose or Gordon was coming. Oops.
  11. It's pretty clear Sweeney is not ready, but it's also pretty clear he will end up a good player IMO. If you send him down when Thome is back, I can see why.
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ May 18, 2007 -> 11:52 PM) All I know is that this isn't the last time we've heard about this situation with AJ/Hall. It's sad that Ozzie actually does the right thing by starting Hall today, and it backfires on him in the press. I can actually see why Ozzie said he's sick of the s*** he receives in the media. Of course, responding the way he does is just going to make it worse though. The media is so bizarre, they seem to love his stupid stuff (SEE: Grinderstad), yet somehow can't comprehend that A.J. AND Toby suck at defense, but Toby can hit lefties and A.J. can't so he'll see the lefties. It's pretty common sense, I mean Jesus playing Toby is the ONLY thing Ozzie did right all day.
  13. Cunningham FINALLY with a nice game, Schnur being Schnur, ditto for Carter and Lucy, ADAM RICKS, nice to see Fields continue to gradually heat up, and wow Owens has been really good lately. Also, Getz with his first poor game at the dish in ages and Anderson 1 for 3 with a walk and no k's is nice. Today's random stat: Jerry Owens right now has 20 walks, 20 strikeouts, and 20 steals. HA! Day at some point this year will somehow record a strikeout and hit allowed to the same batter (and Russell was amazing, and Oneli continues to heat up). Vasquez rules, him AND the pirate for Cotts? At least that makes me feel better about us vs. them. McCulloch with 7 k's and a good outing? WOW.
  14. If A.J. started at catcher, and the other team brings in their LOOGY for Thome, why wouldn't you pinch hit with Hall? Makes sense to me.
  15. The new trend in the NFL seems to be for mediocre, overpayed, overrated players to demand trades. I hope it gets done, the more Mark Anderson the better, and Bauzin is an animal.
  16. Another piece of proof that the most pathetic in the long line of Bruce Weber recruiting gaffes is not getting Dar after MSU got all their verbals. He was almost begging to go to Illinois and still didn't end up there.
  17. That Pods and human gascan for C Lee trade was such a horrible trade. It was worth it for 2005 obviously, but still that's an all timer in bad trading.
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ May 18, 2007 -> 11:37 PM) Ozuna's received way, way too much playing time lately. He's been a horrible major league player basically since his injury last year. No one appreciates his hustle more than I do, but if he's getting more than 5 or 6 at-bats in a week, that's too many. He should not be at 3rd base ever, ever, ever. Anytime he starts at 3rd, Ozzie had a bad game managing, no matter what else he does. This is the same concept as Mackowiak in CF last year, I just hope it doesn't reach those levels.
  19. I'd be surprised if he plays before Independence Day, this guy makes Mark Prior look like Lou Gehrig nowadays. I wish the Josh Fields to LF experiment had been more extensive these days.
  20. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ May 18, 2007 -> 04:58 PM) To me, the biggest worries are the lousy defensive play The majority of which was done by the brilliant move of putting Pablo at 3rd base. Pablo at 3rd is as bad as Mack in CF. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ May 18, 2007 -> 11:28 PM) Well I don't know what the hell happened with #2...if Crede said "i'm out" or if Ozzie said "as a precaution i'm not playing you" or whatever else. All i know is that if Crede said he's out because of a swollen lip that's pretty terrible. And if Ozzie sat him as a precaution and he did want to play, that's even worse. Pablo should not be at 3rd base, he can't play it, period. I'd rather see ANYBODY there, hell Mackowiak, Cintron, anybody. Pablo at 3rd is a lock for an error or hit that should have been an error minimum. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ May 18, 2007 -> 04:39 PM) Well this thread is beginning to take on quite a personal tone. It's all the Ozzie boners have left. Personal attack and 2005, because no tangible evidence has shown Ozzie to be anything other than pathetic for 200 games now.
  21. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 18, 2007 -> 09:16 PM) Single worst manager for bringing in his best RHP? Seriously? Some of you people need to blame the damn players once in awile. I missed the MacDougal is better than Aardsma and Jenks memo. And if you had watched today's game, you'd be aware our manager is as close to 100 percent at fault for the loss as possible. Everything right down to Pablo at 3rd. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ May 18, 2007 -> 07:57 PM) LMAO, and everyone said the games against the Cubs don't mean s***. Look at the uproar. Yesterday, we were feeling good. Had a lot of momentum and were playing much better. Today, we are nowhere close to contention and Ozzie is worse than Jerry Manuel. 1. Ozzie has been worse than Jerry Manuel for a long time now. Manuel did nothing, but if Ozzie were to take that strategy we'd be much better off. 2. Today's loss would have pissed me off to no end regardless of the opponent. Just the fact it was the pissheads made it worse.
  22. I assume after a few games, Toby will be able to at least catch every pitch, even if he can't throw. That puts him ahead of A.J. against lefties by far, because the "dirty little secret" is A.J. can't throw either kids. This should be a pure platoon system at catcher, even if mother f***ing Ozzie and b****y ass A.J. don't like it.
  23. But it is necessary. I will make this antagonistic declaration right now, because it is needed and accurate. I have 2 thoughts for those of you who, after what Ozzie did from about 8 AM today until 4 PM today, still think he's anything other than a AT LEAST bad manager. 1. Your an idiot. 2. Go become a Cub fan, because only one of them could think anything else of Guillen after today. If we miss the playoffs and he still has a job after this season, I also want Kenny fired as well simply for his loyalty to an idiot. Last year proved Ozzie is a bad manager, today proved that barring a playoff appearance, he must go. If we don't make it to October, I will not tolerate a bad manager with a big mouth who missed the playoffs 3 of his 4 seasons. Period.
  24. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 17, 2007 -> 10:34 PM) Usually I'm just sad when one of my teams seasons comes to the end, but I'm just pissed off about this one. Someone teach these guys to box out or go to the f***in hoop. Hinrich sucked, hurt back or not Ben Wallace was absolute s*** and why the f*** didn't Thabo play in the 2nd half? f*** this. Ha i'm the opposite. Usually i'm pissed but right now i'm just sad. This series could have been won if not for some general stupidity by the players and coaches. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ May 17, 2007 -> 10:49 PM) I almost wish we had gotten swept. That would've been a lot easier to take. I don't even know where to begin. As many have pointed out, other than Brown and to a lesser degree Deng, NOBODY showed up. Our backcourt was terrible. Ben Wallace stunk. We got nothing from the bench (Nocioni was the worst player in this entire series). We couldn't rebound. We were overdribbling (Kirk), and the overall ball movement was terrible. How many open shots did we miss? It was unbelievable. That was the really the story of the entire series. Also, I like both Ben Gordon and Kirk Hinrich. But if this team is to get to the next level, I believe one has to go. If you keep Kirk, then you need to go after a taller SG who can play BOTH offense and defense. If you decide to stick with Ben, you need to find a TRUE PG that's consistent in not only his decision making, but also in knocking down open jumpers. All our other flaws are obvious. We need a low-post scorer in the worst possible way. We need more depth, too. Going into this season, all you heard about was how deep the Bulls were. We're really not that deep. I assume Thomas and Sefolosha will be better in year 2. So that should help in that department. Anyway, good season overall. We made some positive steps in the right direction. This is a very big summer for John Paxson. It all starts with that draft pick (please god let us get Oden or Durant). That about sums the entire situation of the Chicago Bulls up.
  25. Carter and Getz with big nights again, Cunningham with another 1 for 4 (ugh), Fields didn't do a whole lot, and Schnurstein finally cooled off a bit.
