  1. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Mar 25, 2006 -> 12:52 AM) What does this say about Choi as a player to the stathead community? Are 27 GM's so stupid to let him pass through the waiver wire? Hee Flop is a s***ty player. I don't care about his OPS+. When did the Red Sox get a 50 man roster? Well done. Choi=Borch with a batters eye. And i'm standing by it.
  2. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 25, 2006 -> 01:28 AM) Blah blah blah. Haha it's not a personal diss. If you win your bracket pool (which we've all done at some point) it's because you picked a few teams that got lucky and beat somebody better than them. Illinois beating an Arizona team better than them through complete and blind luck and Louisville's miracle comeback were the reason I won money last year after all.
  3. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 10:20 PM) Dude, sometimes I wonder if you really believe your own s***! "I coulda played point guard on those MSU teams". Ha ha f***ing HA Cleaves was a great college player because he was a winner. He helped make those players better by getting them ball in the right places at the right times. Cleaves could control the tempo as well as any PG in college I can remember. It didn't matter if teams wanted to run or slow it down, Cleaves could control the game. He wasn't the most athletically talented player, nor the greatest scorer, but those things aren't always the most important for a PG. Cleaves was a smart player that knew how to win. He hustled his ass off and didn't try to do more than was needed. Sometimes a player is great because he doesn't try to be a big time scorer. Lots of teams are talented, but they don't all win. Cleaves at the very least was a gamer that knew how to win. He has an NCAA Title to prove that. Whatever you say. You just pulled out all the cliches that prove how overrated he is, since no one ever says he was a good player. Dude was blessed by the talent around him and by the fact he was an average point guard at the college level. Oh, and 'Nova is toast next game. Florida is going to smack them down inside similarly to what BC did, and Florida's guards can actually hit some shots.
  4. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 25, 2006 -> 01:25 AM) 101, if it makes you feel any better....I won both those games. I'd feel dirty if I was you, the inferior team won both games and your lucky.... (unless that wins you money, then laugh at me and roll in your dough). Ugh, at least next year is an odd year, I'm a lock to kick ass.
  5. f***ed in the ass with a thick pole, that's how it is. Thanks for nothing BC and G-Town, assholes.
  6. I had this bracket perfect except 1 game coming into tonight. Ironic it turns out to be the one that kills me. Freaking BC chokes it away, then Georgetown falls apart and gags the last 2 minutes. So close to having both those games and being in the green, but nope. f***ing ass, the every other year trend lives.
  7. There it was again tonight. If Washington fouls when Williams is bringing it up with about 6 to go in regulation, they are heading to the Final 4. All they had to do was foul. But nope, coaches won't do it, and Washington got the big steaming pile of s*** they deserved as a result. Also, Washington got f***ed by the refs and I love it. They deserve it since the only reason they were in this game was the refs helping them out so much last game. Enjoy your offseason boys. Oh, and there is no way in hell UConn wins this tournament. They just don't care enough, however they do care enough to beat George Mason, what a break they got with this bracket. Oh, and me earlier: Close enough!!
  8. I picked UConn originally. With that said, as of now I think Memphis wins it all. They are just too damn talented and UConn doesn't care enough.
  9. Punching a family member wouldn't make that money come back. Damnit, I shoulda known. I win money every other year (2001, 2003, 2005) and I thought the streak would finally die. Although I will say this, if UConn can somehow win it all and Georgetown wins tonight and I get the left side of that bracket right (Memphis beats Texas in the national semi), I'd still have a shot. But damn that BC game hurt.
  10. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 09:54 PM) Maybe I'm confused. Who of Brandan Wright, Tywon Lawson, Wayne Ellington, Alex Stepheson, Deon Thompson, and William Graves is white? Roy has always recruited a nice balance of white and black players. He just recruits whoever fits his style the best. He has complimented guys like Collison, Heinrich, with guys like Paul Pierce, Drew Gooden, Wayne Simien, Keith Langford, Aaron Miles, JR Giddens, etc. As a matter of fact, of Roy's 11 recruits coming to UNC in his tenure so far, an astounding 2 of them are white. I actually forgot to mention that, your correct. I should have been more clear in my anger, I'm sure I typed it wrong though. WHAT I MEANT to say was he always found a way to lose at Kansas becuase of the amazing amounts of white players he had there, and if he didn't learn how to win it all last year with that group of amazing athletes and recruits the same way at UNC as he did Kansas, he will continue to lose. This years team played 2 mega useless white guys (not including Hansbrough of course) and look, they lose to some 11 from Virginia. However, next years class has stars all over at every position and is VERY athletic. In fact, I'll predict they win a national title if they can keep together for 2 or 3 years.
  11. QUOTE(Felix @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 09:54 PM) At least you aren't blaming the refs. Its a nice change of pace in 'Bracket Banter' to see people complain about the teams, rather than the refs. Had nothing to do with the refs. Boston College went 8 for 17 from the line, which is another reason they lost. Ugh I'm still fuming .
  12. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 09:51 PM) We'll see, I'm not going to argue with you over how good nova is when we'll find out very soon. Yep, definitely. Let me say this though, Villanova is bar none the best team in America if Sumpter is healthy and Jason Fraser still had knees.
  13. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 09:48 PM) Dang right I was talking about basketball. Texas and Kansas will be elite. Texas A&M returns their top 6 players as well as a top 50 PF in Bryan Davis from a 22-9 team. Nebraska returns 6 of their top 8 from a 19 win squad. Kansas State returns 7 of their top 8 from a 15-13 squad. Iowa State, barring total abandonment from players, will be tourney contenders. Oklahoma loses alot of talent, but has some nice young players, and a great recruiting class coming in, they should fight for .500. Oklahoma State returns their top 8 players from a 17 win squad and brings in a 4 star SG. Texas Tech returns everyone from a 15 win squad, including the 6 freshmen from this year that will be a year older, and bring in two talented Juco's, including a 7 footer, finally. Missouri returns everyone but two players, and will fight for .500, especially with a new coach. Baylor returns everyone, and gets a hell of a recruiting class, including a talented 7'1 player, and a Mickey D's AA PG. Even Colorado returns their best player Richard Roby. You will have alot of teams fighting for .500, and 5-6 legit threats for the NCAA tourney. Sure the Big East will have more teams in the tourney, but from top to bottom it won't get any better than the Big 12 next year. Hmm you make some good points sir. I just will have to see it for myself since this years Big 12 only had 4 teams anywhere near tourney status, and 1 of them (Oklahoma) was a complete and total fraud. I'll say Okie and State, A&M, Texas, and Kansas go dancing next year. That's 5 teams, which is damn good..... my question is will the other 7 completely suck ass? or will they step up to increase the overall level of the league. And will any surprise teams step up? Should be interesting.
  14. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 09:49 PM) haha I knew this would happen, I would get all the semi-big games for my bracket. Then UConn will drop the ball and f*** me hugely. UConn will win. They are just f***ing with everybody, as always. UConn will win this one something like 91-87.
  15. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 09:48 PM) LOL, ya you are bitter. I'll just say I completely, completely disagree with you. We'll see what happens though. Yes I'm bitter, but I stand by my last comment. Ok, UCLA might lose to Villanova too. But UConn is better, Memphis is better, LSU is better, and Texas is better than Villanova is right now. Villanova has no big men that don't suck, Nardi is playing like poop....so they have 3 very good guards at the moment. The Illini, who didn't even win it all last year, had 3 very good guards, a great glue guy in Powell, an all Big 10 big man in Augustine, and a top 5 or 10 6th man in the nation in Jack Ingram, for example.
  16. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 09:44 PM) Bitter? Nova played like complete dog s*** and won that game. They might have got that bad game out of their system, they can win this thing as easily as anyone at this point. They played like s*** because they were playing a team better than they are. But of course, as soon as it got to 25-9, BC let up. BC builds up a 2nd half lead, lets up. They get within 3 seconds of a win, and let up. Unbelieveable bulls***, I can't really put into words how mad I am right now, I'm giving the nice speech in these posts, I'm actually a lot madder than it seems like. Nova would lose to every team that has advanced to the Elite 8 so far except George Mason.
  17. QUOTE(Felix @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 09:41 PM) Maybe you should pick the right team next time then? Villanova is small and unbalanced and lucky. I hope Georgetown wins tonight (that would be a boost to me) but regardless, I hope whoever wins Florida/Georgetown beats Villanova by 50. I will also root against Villanova and Boston College every chance I get the next couple of years due to this.
  18. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 09:37 PM) You are on a roll I am PISSED right now. I might have just lost 250 bucks I coulda won on a 10 dollar bet because Boston College can't f***ing cover a basic inbounds play.
  19. Michael Sweetney has been double teamed tonight more than once by the Hornets. The Hornets deserve to lose this game and miss the playoffs due to that single fact alone.
  20. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 09:34 PM) Incorrect. Because you didn't know how a team would respond to the loss the rest of the way, i would have rather kept the momentum going. That's why it mattered. Luckily, they rebounded nicely in the BTT and kept going from there. But initially, i think people had a reason to worry a bit, you know. You had a reason to worry a bit because it was a loss and we played like s***. There was no extra reason to worry or be pissed since it was our first loss. And if they had fallen apart because of a loss in a meaningless game, it would have proven they didn't have the mental toughness to do anything in the tournament anyways. The Illini did recover well though.
  21. My most hated college athlete of all time is Mateen Cleaves. He was a average college player who just dribbled down the floor and passed it off to his amazingly awesome supporting cast. But since he was a leader and made wide open 3's that I could make, he's a "great". I cannot stand that, and the worst part was he had little talent and played his ass off with hustle. He was like an annoying white guy, but nobody wanted to hate him since he wasn't white. I coulda played point guard on those MSU teams with the talent they had. /rant
  22. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 09:31 PM) A black truck driving cowboy hat wearing redneck who loves to hunt with a statue in the middle of Utah. It really gets no more ironic than that.
  23. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 09:28 PM) Gus Johnson. "SYLVESTER THE SHOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT......GOT IT!!!!!!!!!!" Is forever grained into my mind. Gus is a complete and total f***, but at the same time I forgot about that one. It was a game that meant nothing, no matter how much Illini fans say otherwise. If we win that game and lose to UNC in the title games, it makes no difference how I look back at last year. All that mattered at that point since we had the #1 overall and bus tour locked up was winning the 6 in the big tournament.
  24. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 07:08 PM) I think of a bust as someone who has poor production, and he's played fairly well the last couple years. And in his time with the Cubs, he looked like a ROY candidate before the injury. From a stats perspective he looks good, from a tools perspective he looks good. I just don't get it. Also, let me 2nd what SSH said -- he'd fit with a lot of teams as a backup 1b at that price. Not saying there are a lot of places he could start, but he should have been picked up before he got to Boston. The Reds are one. The Royals -- how can a team composed of such utter crap, with nothing in the pipeline, pass on Choi? I agree with all of this, but at the same time your making my point. He was once a top prospect in the game, and now he's a 27 year old on his 4th team who can't start for anybody who doesn't suck. That's not a total bust, but it's a significant underachiever. With that said, he can play some ball so for him to fall that far on the waiver wire is pretty bizarre. If I were somebody like Cincinnati or Kansas City or hell, even Minnesota....I'd take a flier.
  25. Roy Williams should thank Doherty, as he took his roster full of players and added 1 damn good recruit in Marvin Williams and won it all. Now Roy is starting to recruit like he did at Kansas (too many crackers) and he's going to continue to underachieve in the tournament (like this year losing a 3-11 game as a 3). Go ahead, call me racist, but the facts say that I'm right. There are great white players out there (Hansbrough now, Hinrich and Collison in the past) that Roy gets, but he just recruits wayyyy too many whiteys and ends up stuck with a lot of them who were WAY WAY overrated in HS (Bobby Frasor anyone?)
