  1. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 08:14 PM) I disagree, what a shock huh :-). I actually think the Big 12 will be the best conference in America next year. It's amazing the amount of talent that should return next year, as well as the new additions. Top to bottom the league should be competitive and in my opinion could get 5-6 teams in the tourney pretty easy. Kansas and Texas will be top 10 in pre-season. Texas A&M, Nebraska, Texas Tech, K-State, OU, ISU, and OSU could/should challenge for atleast a +.500 season, and quite a few of those have tourney potential. Even Baylor will have a talented squad, but should be at the back again this year. I stopped reading at that point. I'm hoping you weren't talking about basketball, because yikes if you were. Texas will always be good, Kansas has a ton of talent, Oklahoma State will be good again......then you have a bunch of meiocre crap. That is exactly why Kansas State will be good in a hurry.
  2. Boston College is a bunch of pathetic f***ing chokers. I no longer have any ground for mistakes if I want money. Thanks a lot BC, assholes.
  3. Congrats to George Mason, enjoy your beatdown from whichever Huskies win tonight on Sunday.
  4. f*** you Eagles. Bunch of free throw bricking chokers, now they are all must wins if I want to win any paper this year.
  5. GO EAGLES!!! Villanova is too small, I just hope tonight is the night it gets them. And later on, GO HOYAS!!
  6. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 04:46 PM) Borch with a better eye is just, not Borch at all. He's a lh hitter with power who gets on base. And he almost falls through waivers. His average the last two years has been .250, not awful by any stretch. Just look at his hitting chart -- he's not in any way, shape, or form a "dead pull hitter". In his ML career, he's had 82 abs against lhp. That's nothing. But even there, though he hasn't hit, he's still been able to get on base. As for the fielding, he looked fine when he was with the Cubs. I think it's mostly that, if you are a high profile prospect with some team and then get shipped out, you're labelled a bust. But since Dusty won't play anyone below 32 without a court order, you're basically f***ed if you come up with the Cubs now. Slip up for one week and you're benched indefinitely. There are so many teams ahead of the Red Sox that could have used Choi. Just dumb. He's 27 and this is his 4th team, that is dangerously close to bust territory. However I will say this, Choi has some tools that you can't teach and for him to almost pass all the way through waivers is pretty silly. As for the Reds, I'm not sure but when Choi would have passed them on waivers I think would have been before the Arroyo trade, when they had Dunn at 1B and Pena, Grifffey, and Kearns in the OF.
  7. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 06:11 PM) First Amendment is not an absolute protection. You cant print, write, or say anything, there are certain limitations. As for why Barry's lawyers wasted their time: 1) Because Im sure they were paid substantially 2) Because as the lawyers for Bonds they have a duty to do what they can to help their client 3) Because they could make a good faith argument that the UCL made it so that if the journalists did something illegal that Bonds could get a TRO and damages. I just dont understand why the lawyers would not try this. Seems like a no lose situation: Scenario 1) They win at trial, the case most likely would be fast tracked for Appellate and then perhaps SC. They are looking at considerable legal fees, not to mention all the publicity of being Bonds lawyer. Scenario 2) They lose at trial, they then have the decision to appeal, they also still receive their considerable legal fees. I really dont know many people who would turn down thousands of dollars and all the recognition/publicity that would come with a case like this, should they prevail. I was saying in general it's a waste of time since there is a better chance of a killer asteroid hitting earth tomorrow than them winning. In terms of the lawyers themselves, of course it's not a waste of time with legal fees how they are today .
  8. QUOTE(Be Good @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 06:00 PM) If he can turn K State into constant winners i'll be surprised. Big 12 is in a bit of a down period and Huggins is going to rake in the blue chips. He will have them good, and soon.
  9. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 05:03 PM) I loved that UMass team for some reason. Camby at UMass in 1996 played as if he were Tyson Chandler with an awesome offensive game to boot. Dude by himself carried them to the Meadowlands and the 1996 Final Four.
  10. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 04:03 PM) I'd agree with the exception of the 2005 UNC team, the 1996 Kentucky Wildcats and the 92 Duke Blue Devils. There were a few solid UNC teams that lost, obviously about 5 different Roy Williams-led Kansas teams that lost, 1999 Duke, 1991 UNLV, plus at least 2 Arizona teams. Agreed on 1996 Kentucky and 2005 UNC, they are the "just about" part in "just about all the best teams i've seen didn't win it all" . I don't go back this far, but I'm sure 1991 UNLV and 1992 Kentucky would be one of the best I've seen, I do know 1997 Kansas was one, 1996 UMass with Camby, last year's Illini, 2001 Arizona, and 1998 UNC are all great teams I do remember that didn't qute win it all.
  11. That 2002 Duke class is why i'm not annoiting Ohio State is royalty yet. Oden is a stud, but after him it's been proven time and time again that recruiting is a crapshoot. Oh, and Texas REALLY should press LSU. They have the athletes to do it, Texas is way better in an uptempo game, and LSU's guards are s*** ball handlers.
  12. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 04:20 PM) I can't believe he fell all the way to the Red Sox. Why does noone like this guy? Because he's Borch with a better eye basically. He has a GREAT batters eye though and a lot of power, so he will be around for a while. Problem is when he makes contact, it's usually home run or popout, he's a dead pull hitter, he can't hit lefties, can't run, and can't field. I could see it end up being him and the Greek God of Walks as the 2 1B on Boston though.
  13. QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 02:55 PM) What does everyone have against Gonzaga anyways? Is it just Morrison? I have never really understood all the hate for the Zags, and why people would root for UCLA over them (unless they have them in their bracket of course). The fact that the media fawns over them even though they are never all that good and don't play defense. This years teams is probably the best team they've had other than the 1999 team that made the elite 8, and they didn't even survive their opener in the regionals. At least make a final four before I have to hear how awesome you are.
  14. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2382588 Why did Barry's lawyers waste their time? Even a plebian like me knew that that judge said, free speech says this book is perfectly legal.
  15. QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 02:13 PM) Didn't read the filing, but isn't the suit because they got ahold of and used sealed GJ testimony..? Yes ma'am, that is correct.
  16. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 02:08 PM) Where is the liability suit? They are filing a TRO (temporary restraining order) to try and prevent the sale of the book. They will argue that allowing the sale of the book will lead to irreperable harm to Bonds which no monetary award could make him whole again. Im not sure why they are "idiots" for doing what every lawyer would do for their client, protect their interests. Even if they lose on the TRO, it does not mean they will lose should Bonds really take them to the mat. A TRO just says that one side has a substantial liklihood of winning, while not actually making a binding ruling. Not to mention it specifically says that Bonds lawyers told them of an intent to sue, and then also filed the TRO. It will be very hard for Bonds to win in the end, but he can make it extremely costly for the authors and the publisher. I heard they are trying to prevent the authors from receiving any book profits, they aren't trying to prevent the sale of the book itself (it's WAY too late for that, it's all out there now). It would be hard for Bonds to win, and I don't blame him for suing....but the fact he didn't sue for liability speaks volumes.
  17. QUOTE(Felix @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 02:05 PM) I'm missing 2 elite 8, and 1 final four. Still, third place in the SoxTalk pool. I'm only missing 2 elite 8, and my final 4 is in tact. I figure if G'Town and ESPECIALLY BC win tonight for me, I got a shot at moving towards the top in the pool. UConn of course has to win it all for me too.
  18. The ironic part of this (at least for a Gonzaga hater like me) is that Gonzaga would have been a much tougher matchup IMO for Memphis. Gonzaga has a lot more offensive firepower and has the type of dominant post player in Batista that can give Memphis hell. The one thing UCLA does have on it's side is Farmar is a far far superior point guard to Raivio, and is a very good one in general. UCLA also defense a lot better than Gonzaga, but as you saw through most of last nights game, great offensive teams can score on UCLA (I believe Memphis scored over 80 on them earlier this year, and Washington beat UCLA twice).
  19. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 01:41 PM) Who in the hell did you have? I still have 3 of my Final Four teams. UCLA helped me out a bit there. I kinda felt alone on that pick..... More people than you'd think out there have there final 4 gone, and most had some sort of arrangement like this: Duke Kansas UNC Ohio State
  20. I posted this in the other thread too so here goes. Thoughts on LSU/Texas? I think this will be a great battle between 2 very evenly matched teams. The key is which teams guards can hit some perimeter shots, whoever does that IMO wins because I think the great front lines of these 2 teams will cancel each other out. I'm going to say Daniel Gibson and the senior Paulino come up big and Texas wins a close one.
  21. Morrison is a lock top 5 pick, more likely a lock top 3 pick. And unlike Leinart in the USC machine, his stock could actually go down next year. He's going pro and would be an idiot not to. BTW, Derrick Thomas was the s***. I was only 13 or 14 when he died, but it was a sad day. Anyways, any thoughts on Memphis/UCLA? I think Memphis might just run UCLA out of the gym, the Bruins better make this a slooooooooow game because they don't have the firepower to run with Memphis.
  22. Sounds great!! Carville is by far my all time favorite liberal and he knows his s*** when it comes to sports. I'm sure he was celebrating his beloved Tigers upset over Duke late into the evening last night.
  23. Where is the liability suit? Oh wait, it doesn't exist because the book is true. Thanks for the confession Barry, and thanks for having an idiot legal team.
  24. Until Duke recruits athletic wings, they are going to have issues. Just recruiting small guards that shoot 3's and aren't plus athletes and giant guys who play inside, they need some wings/big guards. They are too slow and too white and have no 3's (by that I mean small forwards/big 2 guards), and you can't win that way, you must be more versatile.
  25. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 12:43 PM) I don't think you'll see that type of athleticism from Amare anymore. He had the same surgery that Penny and McDyess had. I hope your wrong, but I think your right. That would suck ass, his athletic ability pre injury was at a level above anybody else in the NBA.
