Dayn Perry picks the Sox
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 4, 2006 -> 09:59 PM) I stopped reading after "2. Tigers". The fact he picked us makes me nervous since he has Detroit 2nd. Detroit has about a 0.0013% chance of finishing higher than 4th this year. He's counting on Bonderman coming up huge, Verlander starting off his big league career as a solid 3-4 starter, Jones & Rogers carrying their success from last year over, and a very solid lineup gelling. It's not very likely that all of that will happen, but it's probably more likely than you're giving them credit for here. Remember, the Sox were supposed to finish 4th last year, and look what happened there. QUOTE(The Critic @ Mar 4, 2006 -> 10:08 PM) I don't know if I agree with this. The Tigers are not THAT far behind Minny, IMO. With someone stepping up to close for them and a few early breaks to build momentum/confidence, I could see Detroit as a solid 3rd place team in the Central. I agree. They have a far better lineup, a decent but lesser starting staff, and a questionable bullpen that is quite a bit worse than Minnesota. If they can get their offense to produce and find 1 or 2 more reliable releivers beyond Todd Jones, they have a chance at 3rd or maybe even 2nd.

NFL Off-Season Rumor Mill
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Mar 2, 2006 -> 09:30 PM) Nothing new to add, but, my impeachable source has confirmed that the Bears front-office will make a very serious consideration to draft Texas A&M's Reggie McNeal with either a second, or a preferable third-round pick regardless of an Antwaan Randle-El signing. Wow. That's a rather high ranking for McNeal. They could probably get him in the 4th or 5th.

Hypothetical question
QUOTE(WhiteSox311 @ Mar 3, 2006 -> 06:33 PM) i know what the question was im just sayin that 32 is not old for a baseball player and if it is then why did they give konerko a 5 yr contract Konerko is 30, so a 5 year contract makes him 35 at the end of it.

Hypothetical question
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 3, 2006 -> 06:29 PM) I guarantee you that no GM in baseball would take 32 year old Ichiro over 22 year old Miguel Cabrera. Or 19 year old Felix Hernandez.
-
Hypothetical question
I like a few of the ideas here. A-Rod makes a lot of sense, Santana would make for a devastating staff for years to come (but so would Felix Hernandez IMO), Cabrera is just a sick hitter at the 3B position, and for those saying Pujols, would you plan to move him back to 3B or LF (where he played early in his career for the Cardinals), or just use him as a DH?
-
Hypothetical question
If you could take any player from any team and put them on the White Sox, factoring in age and ignoring salary, who would it be? For me, it would be Felix Hernandez. A 19 (soon to be 20) year old pitcher who is that talented and already good enough to post a sub 3 ERA in the AL doesn't come along that often. If anyone decides to post something like: "Who cares, it can't happen anyway", or something along those lines, here's your response: I told you in the topic subtitle that if you didn't want to answer the question to not even bother looking at the thread, so :finger

World Baseball Classic
QUOTE(Soxrock200 @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 09:11 PM) Who you choosing in WBC If all the best players were participating, no team could touch the U.S.'s pitching staff. Since they're not, I really don't care. Move this thing to November!

Who are you picking to win it all?
I want to say repeat, but I just can't see it happening, so I'll just say anybody but Duke.

When Frank comes back to Chicago..
I wouldn't boo, because he's done too much for the White Sox, but I certainly wouldn't give him a Standing O, because I haven't liked his attitude for quite some time.

NFL Off-Season Rumor Mill
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Feb 25, 2006 -> 05:29 PM) Doesn't really deserve it's own thread, but it deserves mention. Apparently, Vince Young got a 6 on the Wonderlic............................. I'd have to see it before I'd believe it. So far, this "report" comes from a scout who says he's "99% sure" that that's the score he got. Well, if I'm a scout for the Lions, and I really want Young, why wouldn't I make something like that up?

2005 RBs V. 2006 RBs
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 08:57 PM) They run the same 40, but, you can't possibly tell me they have the same speed on gameday. Maybe not, but Ronnie's ability to run through people more than makes up for the extra quickness Bush has IMO.

NFL Off-Season Rumor Mill
QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Feb 20, 2006 -> 09:59 PM) The world champs are being linked to Bobby Carpenter alot at the 32nd slot, and there's also alot of rumors that the Steelers could trade up in the 1st, or 2nd round because of their compensation picks they will receive. I can't see that happening unless they trade up. Too many teams with a SLB need would have to pass on him.

I'll take San Fran or Tampa as a 2nd team if GMs can't be found for those teams.

2005 RBs V. 2006 RBs
I'd say the two classes are about even in the top 3, but 2006 takes the battle for it's depth. Here's how I see it: R. Brown>R. Bush C. Williams C. Benson C. Fason ??? I know I'm going to get killed for that first one, but Ronnie Brown is as fast as Bush, has as good if not better hands, blocks as well as a FB, and has the ability to play like Earl Campbell or Barry Sanders due to his combination of size & speed. DeAngelo has the edge on Cadillac because he's an APB, White is a less worn down version of Benson, Addai is a far more talented version of Fason, and I can't even remember who the 5th best RB was last year, but Maroney blows them out of the water in terms of talent.

Will Barry Bonds Surpass Hank Aaron?
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 20, 2006 -> 11:18 AM) I wish there was an option for "I hope not." As do I.

On paper ...
The best and worst teams always defy these predictions by a great deal. Factors such as a good or poor bullpen, 1 run games record, etc. can throw these WAY off. Last year, the White Sox were something like +11 or +12 on their predicted Pythagorean Record (meaning they got 11 or 12 more wins more than that formula predicted). If they were to do that again this year, they'd win over 100 games, but that would mean they'd have to get another great year from the pen and win about 2/3 of their 1 run games again.

Bruce Levine on second lefty options
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Feb 18, 2006 -> 11:12 AM) Ever since the Sox signed Redding, I've had this strange feeling that he's gonna come through for us. Glad I'm not the only one.
