  1. I wonder if they're trying to become a running offense. I think they should try to make a move for Cutler if he's there at 8 or so. They're going to need a franchise QB in the near future.
  2. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Mar 20, 2006 -> 11:19 PM) 2004 -- 30BB 65.1IP 2005 -- 29BB 60.1IP His BB/IP actually went up. Get that bum Cotts out of the pen!
  3. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 10:20 PM) This draft thing is already f***ed. New Orleans won't select Leinhart with their pick. They will either trade down or select Mario Williams because they signed Drew Brees. This affects at least 2 picks here. START OVER!!!!! Or we could just keep it the way it is and know that this started before the Saints signed Brees.
  4. Why can't I access my User CP right now? EDIT: Fixed now. Thanks.
  5. Anyone want to trade up? Jay Cutler is available.
  6. So we're not doing the 24 hour time limit thing?
  7. Browns | Team signs every free agent Sat, 11 Mar 2006 14:03:14 -0800 According to Chris Mortenson of ESPN, the Cleveland Browns have successfully signed every unrestricted free agent in just over 24 hours since the start of free agency, 12:00 noon Friday. Browns General Manager Phil Savage has also managed to successfully have sexual intercourse with every eligible bacherlorette in that same time frame, much to the dismay of every other NFL general manager and Hugh Hefner. According to Mortenson, the Browns are now expected to challenge the Klingons for interstellar domination.
  8. I agree. Also, I think a time limit needs to be set. I think 24 hours per pick would be fair, and it'd guarantee we get at least the first round done before the real draft.
  9. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 08:52 PM) On the other hand, the Sox also had plenty of things go very wrong last season. Scott Podsednik couldn't steal for the last 2 months, and spent a month barely able to play. Crede broke his hand. Jermaine Dye was attacked by a spider. A bunch of our guys continued to hit at levels well under where they should be and even well under their career averages (AJ, Rowand, Crede, Uribe, Everett) One of our pitchers had his arm fall completely off. Our best hitter managed to have only about 90 at bats. Timo Perez got 180 at bats. Our closer to start the year got shellacked Our 2nd closer blew out his back A lot of those things will change as well. So don't just say "Oh we got lucky last year". Yes, we got lucky when Mark Buehlre's foot wasn't really hurt, but there was also a sh*tload of talent on that team, with a lot of ability to overcome adversity. Sabermetricians will always say teams built around pitching and defense are "lucky". It's a fact of life set up by the way they try to predict win totals. They use a formula centered around runs scored and allowed, and teams built around good pitching and defense will usually win by less than most teams, thus "outperforming" the number of wins a sabermetrician would "expect". Don't confuse me for a sabermetrics hater, because I find quite a lot of it useful, however, I think that win totals can't be accurately projected by any formula.
  10. Does anyone else think the chorus to System of a Down's "Revenga" would be perfect for the night after a loss? On my sweet revenge Will be yours, for the taking It's in the making baby, aaaaahhh My sweet revenge Will be yours, for the taking It's in the making baby, aaaaahhh
  11. Whoever said "Seven Nation Army" hit the nail on the head. There's just something about that first part that fits perfectly.
  12. QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 09:48 AM) I am getting a bit worried that the Sox are trying to be characters like the 1985 Bears, who never won again after the Superbowl year. How much will that belt mean when we are in the midst of a 7-game losing streak? It's all in fun. Don't get so serious about it. I would think during a 7 game losing streak they wouldn't give it out.
  13. So the one on the right is Borchard?
  14. How long are teams allowed to be "on the clock"?
  15. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 6, 2006 -> 10:30 AM) He hasnt pitched a full year yet dude. Why the man-crush on felix? It has nothing to do with a "man-crush". His stuff is pure filth, he's 19 (soon to be 20) years old, and he has never struggled at any level, including times when he's come off of injuries. The fact that he's going to be 20 this season means that if he's as good as he's displayed throughout his entire career (and there's absolutely no reason to expect otherwise, considering his talent and performance record), you're going to get an ace caliber pitcher for 15-20 years barring injury, which is much better than a #3 hitter for 10-15 years IMO.
  16. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 6, 2006 -> 01:52 AM) I see the well made points about the Tigers that the Sox were finished to pick 4th last year. But the Tigers dont' have NEARLY the pitching we do. The Tigers have no shot of finishing ahead of us or Cleveland, and I think the Minnesota pitching will be too much for them to not finish ahead of Detroit. They have Bonderman, Verlander, and Rogers. That's a lot of what they're season is riding on. The rest would be the health of Ordonez and Guillen.
  17. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Mar 6, 2006 -> 01:51 AM) familiar pose... Well, Steve Hutchinson is a pro bowl caliber talent, unlike Chad Hutchinson
  18. It's a great time to be left handed, breathing, and able to throw a baseball 85 MPH or faster.
  19. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 6, 2006 -> 12:39 AM) I still say count me in on Detroit sucking again. I just don't like the makeup of the team at all. I still say the Tigers finish in last place, with the Royals finishing in 4th with 70+ wins. If they can't keep Ordonez and Guillen on the field, I agree. If they can, I could see 85 wins for them, but Verlander would win rookie of the year in that scenario.
  20. I think a new deal will be done by Tuesday. There's an owner's meeting in Dallas scheduled for Tuesday, and I think this is where the owners are going to lock themselves in a room, and not leave until they come up with a solution to the local revenue sharing/cash over cap problem. From what I've heard, pretty much everything between the NFL and NFLPA is settled, but there's a group of 10-12 owners who are stalling the negotiations because of the local revenue sharing issue. The small market owners want either a limit on cash over cap (the amount of money that a team's payroll exceeds the cap by, though through prorating bonuses and other mechanisms, the cap figures do not actually exceed the salary cap), or a large percentage of local revenues (what seperates the large market teams and big spending teams from the small market and "frugal" teams) shared, and something must be done to appease them before a new CBA will be ratified, because this owner group is large enough to prevent any new CBA to be ratified.
  21. QUOTE(Beltin'Bill @ Mar 5, 2006 -> 11:43 PM) Lot of good names tossed around here (and a few ???s). I think the two names that stick in my head are Carl Crawford and Johan Santana. Felix looks phenomenal, but unless he is superhuman, he should go through some growing pains like anyone else (physically and mentally). For the type of team and manager the Sox strive to embody, I do not think there are many names out there that stack up to Crawford and Santana. Ichiro is an interesting name too due to his all around play, speed, and ability to play sidekick to Iguchi. I definitely wouldn't complain about getting either of those guys, but to argue against Felix by saying he might struggle isn't really a valid argument, especially when you look at his career. He's pitched since the age of 17, and has spent at least 1/2 of a season at every level from A ball to MLB. In that time, he's never posted a ERA higher than 3.30, and he's had great success at every level. Therefore, it'd be difficult to imagine him struggling, barring an injury that drastically changes the way he pitches. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 5, 2006 -> 11:50 PM) he could, he might, talent, talent talent. SOunds like Kerry Wood to me. I'd rather take Pujols. Kerry Wood has had arm problems throughout his entire career, and has never been as successful as Felix has. Again, Felix has pitched professionally since the age of 17, and in that time he has NEVER struggled, at any level. This includes a stint after he had an arm problem last year. He recovered, and still managed to post a 2.25 ERA at AAA Tacoma. I see the talent, I see the production, so all that's left, barring a bad injury of course, is 15-20 years of dominant pitching.
  22. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 5, 2006 -> 10:10 PM) Felix isnt close to the player that Pujols is. Pujols is the best hitter in the game. Felix isnt even top 20 for pitchers. Felix isn't top 20 because he hasn't had the chance at the ML level yet. Give him a year or 2 in the bigs before you start putting labels on him. At 19, Pujols wasn't even close to the bigs. The only reason you can say he was a top 20 hitter from the start of his career was because he was brought up at the beginning of the 2001 season, and played everyday for the entire season. Give Felix the chance to play a full season. QUOTE(Felix @ Mar 5, 2006 -> 10:47 PM) You realize that with Pujols, you get a player that could break every homerun record there is, right? You also get the best pure hitter in the game. You do realize that with Felix Hernandez, you get a player that could break every pitching record there is, right? At the age of 19, he came up and baffled hitters with a 99 MPH fastball, a wicked curve, and a wicked change to the tune of a 2.67, a 1.00 WHIP, and a better than 3/1 K/BB ratio in 84 1/3 innings last year, and that was all without the use of his best pitch (a filthy 90 MPH slider, which the Mariners refuse to let him throw until 2007). So, am I going to take a 20 year old ace, or a 25 year old bopper in a game where good (or in Felix's case, great) pitching usually beats good hitting? I'm taking the 20 year old ace every time.
  23. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 5, 2006 -> 01:47 AM) Umm, Albert Pujols bar none. I dont know why you would have picked a unproven rookie when you could pick the best hitter in the game. Because of his unbelievable talent, and the fact that he's only 20, so you could get 2 decades or more of solid pitching from him. As for unproven, he did go 84 innings last year with a sub 3 ERA. Not bad for a 19 year old. Pujols is great, but we have a 1B and a DH, so unless you want to move him back to 3B, Felix is the better idea IMO. Miguel Cabrera runs a close second though.
